ABSTRACT Introduction Aerobic (AT), strength (ST) and combined (CT) training are already well referenced as a method for the treatment and control of arterial hypertension (AH) inducing positive changes in blood pressure (BP) reduction, a phenomenon known as post-exercise hypotension (PEH). However, the correct order of combined training to promote PEH is still unclear. Objective To verify the effect of the order of the aerobic component in combined training on PEH among hypertensive elderly women. Methods Randomized clinical trial of 24 elderly hypertensive women allocated to three training groups: Group 1 - Aerobic + Strength Training (AT + ST), Group 2 - Strength + Aerobic Training (ST + AT) and Group 3 - Aerobic + Strength + Aerobic Training (AT + ST + AT). Participants underwent AT at 60% heart rate reserve intensity for 30 minutes and ST with four exercises in three sets of 12 repetitions at 60% of one-repetition maximum (1RM) also for 30 minutes. The training involved 24 sessions (three times a week).Systolic (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) were measured in all groups at time points before and after each session, and the mean BP (MBP) was calculated. Results The variables analyzed did not differ significantly between groups in either the pre- or post-training period. MBP showed a significant reduction only in G1. However, G3 had a greater effect on all the variables analyzed. Conclusion Combined training with an aerobic component (G3) generated a significant post-exercise hypotensive effect over 24 sessions, and is indicated for elderly hypertensive women. ABSTRACT Introduction: Systemic arterial hypertension is a disease that mainly affects women. Objective: This study aimed to verify the hypotensive effect and blood pressure reactivity in women submitted to a concurrent cross exercise (CC) session. Methods: Fifteen volunteers (54±3) performed aerobic exercise alternated with a series of weights exercises, for the analysis of blood pressure variation (by the oscillometric method) and pressure reactivity (by the Cold pressure test) before and after exercise. Results: The results demonstrated the occurrence of post-exercise hypotension in the systolic phase in the comparison between CC and C post-exercise (−11.65 mmHg). CC led to attenuation of 7mmHg and 4mmHg for SBP and DBP, respectively, in the blood pressure reactivity after one session. Conclusion: It is concluded that concurrent cross exercise ensures hypotension and positive reactivity of systolic blood pressure. Objective: To synthesize the findings of chronic effects and the differences between the volume of repetitions and levels of external loads in the pressure responses of elderly hypertensive patients. Methods: The study followed the proposals of PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items are Systematic Reviews and Metanalysis). As searches for the selected articles on the Medline, Pub Med, Cochrane, and Periodical platforms, between August and December 2020. The same studies were found using several words according to the proposed theme. ("Resistance training" and "elderly") ("Resistance training" and "blood pressure") ("Resistance training" and "cardiovascular and elderly") ("Resistance training" and "blood pressure" and "elderly") ("Resistance training" and "blood pressure" and "older"). Results: 2,698 articles were identified with these keywords. Title, abstract, duplicates excluded studies and after reading in full. Finally, ten studies were selected to read the integration, and four were selected for final analysis. Conclusion: This systematic review study uses low repetition and repetition to reduce similar magnitudes' blood pressure. The levels of external loads did not interfere in large proportions in hypertensive older adults' pressure responses. However, studies on the post-exercise resistance hypotensive effect and its variables are still scarce, making further studies on the subject necessary.

This study analyzed the effects of an exercise training program consisting of a knee joint complex exercise device (leg-link system) with digitally controlled active motion function and squat movement on physical fitness and gait ability of elderly women aged 70 or above. Fifty four (54) elderly women aged 70 or above were divided into three groups as control group (n = 18), aerobic training group (n = 18), and combined training group with resistance and aerobic exercise (n = 18). Health-related physical fitness, gait ability-related physical fitness, and the temporal and spatial parameters of gait ability were compared. The health-related physical fitness after the 12-week training was not significantly altered in control group, whereas combined training group showed significant increase in all factors (p < 0.05) and aerobic training group showed significant increase (p < 0.05) only in the physical efficiency index. The gait ability-related physical fitness and all items of the temporal and spatial parameters of gait were found to have significantly increased (p < 0.05) in combined training group after the 12-week exercise training; however, in aerobic training group, only the factors related to muscular endurance and balance showed significant increase (p < 0.05). This study suggested that the exercise training consisting of knee joint complex exercise with digitally controlled active motion function and squat exercise for strengthening lower extremities and core muscles had positive effects on enhancing the ambulatory competence in elderly women.

Physical training is used in the control of arterial hypertension (AH), especially in patients with higher levels of blood pressure (BP). However, there are still few studies on the effects of physical training on AH in less advanced stages of the disease. The aim of the present study was to assess the immediate and late acute effects of continuous moderate physical training (CMT) and high intensity interval training (HIIT) in patients with mild AH, and to assess which training method induces a greater hypotensive effect. A female patient, 43 years old, sedentary, diagnosed with mild AH (stage 1), taking Losartana 50 mg twice a day was studied. She underwent one CMT and one HIIT session, one week apart. BP measurements were taken before and after each session, as well as 24 hours before and after the sessions. After the physical training sessions, we observed a drop in the patient's BP that lasted up to 60 minutes, and a reduction in blood pressure levels on the day after the training. We conclude that both training modalities were efficient in reducing the BP of the patient with mild acute immediate and delayed hypertension.

1. Angiotensin II blockade before and after marked sodium depletion in patients with hypertension [unilateral renovascular (eight), bilateral renovascular (four) and essential (four)] was performed by intravenous administration of the angiotensin II antagonist Sar1-Ala8-angiotensin II (saralasin). 2. On normal sodium intake, saralasin decreased mean blood pressure by 8 mmHg in the unilateral renovascular group, by 6 mmHg in the bilateral renovascular group and increased it by 3 mmHg in the essential hypertensive group. After sodium depletion saralasin decreased mean blood pressure by 33 mmHg, 35 mmHg and 18 mmHg respectively. The saralasin-induced decrease in blood pressure significantly correlated with the log of the initial plasma renin activity. 3. Saralasin infusion decreased effective renal plasma flow (ERPF) in all three hypertension subgroups, both on normal sodium intake and after sodium depletion. Glomerular filtration rate decreased in direct relation to the hypotensive effect of saralasin but ERPF showed this relationship only after sodium depletion. On normal sodium intake saralasin increased filtration fraction by 17%, but decreased it by 7% after sodium depletion. 4. It is concluded that the hypotensive action of saralasin closely correlates with the value of circulating plasma renin activity, apparently independent of the aetiology of the hypertension. The decrease in ERPF during saralasin infusion in the patients on normal sodium intake seems mainly related to the agonistic activity of saralasin, but that after sodium depletion to the hypotensive effect of saralasin.

Abstract Objective: The aim of the present study was to verify the behavior of hemodynamic variables in hypertensive older women following a combined exercise session and to identify the intensity of effort achieved in this session. Method: The study included 14 hypertensive older women (72.0±6.7 years old) who regularly practiced physical activities. The participants underwent a one-hour combined exercise session performed in a group, with intensity of effort monitored by accelerometry (Actigraph, model GT3X+). The hemodynamic parameters (systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, heart rate, stroke volume, cardiac output and peripheral vascular resistance) were individually measured by finger photoplethysmography (Finometer) before and after (60 min) the exercise session. Results: The sessions consisted predominantly of low-light intensity activities (60%) and 20% of class time was spent on sedentary behavior. None of the evaluated variables exhibited changes when the pre and post-exercise values were compared (p>0.05). Systolic blood pressure behavior correlated positively with time spent in sedentary behavior (r=0.541; p=0.045). Conclusion: The combined exercise sessions, as conducted, did not generate post-exercise hypotension. In addition, the time spent in typically sedentary activities during the classes positively correlated with changes in blood pressure, suggesting that combined exercise programs, applied in the form of collective aerobic exercises, should be composed of higher intensity activities.

Abstract Introduction. The aim of the study was to investigate the hypotensive responses in normotensive trained individuals after strength training (ST) performed using two training methods: DeLorme and Oxford. Material and methods. Fifteen normotensive trained men (age: 25.1 ± 3.2 years; height: 1.78 ± 0.01 m; BMI: 24.78 ± 1.4 kg/m2) were examined alternately in crossover with an interval of 72 hours between the DeLorme and Oxford methods. Firstly, 10 repetition maximum (RM) loads were obtained. DeLorme (50%, 70%, and 90%) and Oxford (90%, 70%, and 50%) consisted in the manipulation of 10RM loads so that the subjects performed three sets until failure in the Smith Machine (SM) and the Leg Press 45° (LP). Blood pressure was recorded at rest, post-exercise, and until 60 min post-session at 10-min intervals. Results. Both the DeLorme and Oxford methods showed significant intra-protocol reduction in systolic blood pressure (SBP) at 40, 50, and 60 min time points compared to the rest value (F = 21.848; p = 0.0001). Similar results were noted for diastolic blood pressure (DBP) between rest value and the 60 min time point (F = 46.113; p = 0.0001). Conclusions. The DeLorme and Oxford resistance training methods provided similar hemodynamic responses and similar hypotensive effects. Therefore, these methods can be used as alternatives to manipulate training intensity-volume ratio intra-session with low hemodynamic stress.

Background: Signs and symptoms of impaired function of the musculoskeletal system may be targeted by treating dysfunction located elsewhere. Hypothesis: Abdominal control feedback and scapular stabilization exercise interventions would result in positive changes in pain intensity, strength, electromyography, and flexion-relaxation phenomena in women with forward head and round shoulder postures and neck movement impairment. Study Design: Pretest-posttest intervention. Level of Evidence: Level 1. Methods: A total of 135 women (aged 27.23 ± 1.9 years) with forward head and round shoulder postures were randomized to 3 groups. Group 1 received 6-week scapular stabilization exercises with abdominal control feedback (n = 45), group 2 received 6-week scapular stabilization exercises without abdominal control feedback (n = 45), and group 3 received active self-exercise as a control group (n = 45). Posture, pain, proprioception, strength, and electromyography were assessed before and after the interventions. Results: There were significant between-group differences in pain, proprioception, strength, and electromyography favoring group 1. There were significant within-group changes in posture, pain, proprioception, strength, and electromyography in both groups 1 and 2. No significant change was observed for muscle strength. Conclusion: The addition of abdominal control feedback to the scapular stabilization exercises was shown to be superior to the scapular stabilization exercises alone for decreasing neck pain and restoring proper proprioception, strength, and electromyography in females with forward head and round shoulder postures and neck movement impairment. Clinical Relevance: The addition of abdominal control feedback to scapular stabilization exercises is superior to scapular stabilization exercises alone on the neck for improving electromyography, strength, and function in females with forward head and round shoulder postures and neck movement impairment.
