OBJECTIVE: to identify the needs of nursing students in the field of relational competencies. METHOD: qualitative study with an exploratory-descriptive nature. The random sample included 62 students in the 2nd year of the nursing undergraduate program of a school located in the central region of Portugal. The inclusion criterion was the nonexistence of clinical teaching. Data were collected through a form designed to assess relational needs; content analysis was used to analyze data. RESULTS: the results indicated that the students' concept of nursing care at this stage of their education is focused on the performance of nursing tasks and techniques instead of on scientific knowledge. Overall, they are aware that greater personal development and better self-knowledge are determinant for their personal and social well-being and for them to become good professionals. CONCLUSION: these results will support the improvement of an intervention program to be developed with these students.

Personal development is a sensitive matter for those who practice a profession interacting with people. Teaching allows, perhaps more than any other field, to be aware of the relationship between one's performance and its effects on students. Therefore, the interest in knowing its different factors and aspects is sustained over the years. This study proposes to learn about the perception of primary andsecondary education teachers about the relationship between self-knowledge, through self-observation practices, with personal development and, in turn, the incidence of the latter in professional improvement. The study is based on the content analysis of the thoughts manifested by the participants of a training-educational activity. This activity consisted of sustained observation from attention to personal interiority from all teaching professionals. The population of the study consists of 37 participants. An inductive qualitative methodology is used with an instrument, questionnaire, constructed “ad hoc” and it’s applied according to the pretest-posttest model. The data analysis was performed using the ATLAS Ti program. After the analysis, the following significant results emerged:71% of the teachers expressed interest in strengthening self-observation as a way of self-knowledge and as a goal for personal development and improvement of professional practice. It is found this action provides a new understanding of the "self" and the educational relationship teachers have with students.

In this chapter, the focus is on ways in which content analysis can be used to investigate and describe interview and textual data. The chapter opens with a contextualization of the method and then proceeds to an examination of the role of content analysis in relation to both quantitative and qualitative modes of social research. Following the introductory sections, four kinds of data are subjected to content analysis. These include data derived from a sample of qualitative interviews (N = 54), textual data derived from a sample of health policy documents (N = 6), data derived from a single interview relating to a “case” of traumatic brain injury, and data gathered from 54 abstracts of academic papers on the topic of “well-being.” Using a distinctive and somewhat novel style of content analysis that calls upon the notion of semantic networks, the chapter shows how the method can be used either independently or in conjunction with other forms of inquiry (including various styles of discourse analysis) to analyze data, and also how it can be used to verify and underpin claims that arise out of analysis. The chapter ends with an overview of the different ways in which the study of “content”—especially the study of document content—can be positioned in social scientific research projects.

This qualitative study aimed to understand how women having an abortion experience the nursing care they receive. The statements of 13 hospitalized women were analyzed through content analysis. The central category "Nursing care experienced in situations of abortion" was constituted from 4 subcategories: care centered in physical needs; fear of judgment in abortion situations; legal aspects defining care; the need for support in abortion situations. These women identified nursing care as based on physical aspects, without contemplating their individuality and specificities. Results indicated the need to create an environment that stimulates listening, helping these women to elaborate their feelings and allowing professionals to behave closer to these women's reality, in order to reduce their own desires and conflicts and contemplate the integrality of care.

Background Meditation on Twin Hearts (MTH) involves blessing the earth to alleviate the sufferings, and praying for the well-being of the entire society using heart and crown chakra. This meditation is characterized by mechanisms of loving-kindness, self-healing imagery, and open awareness. Purpose This study aims to identify the experiences and perceived benefits associated with practicing MTH by nursing students. Method Qualitative method using content analysis was used to study meditation experiences. After obtaining the informed consent, 22 nursing students were introduced to MTH. Experiences and feedback from meditation sessions were reported each day during their 8 week practice. Nursing students also answered seven open-ended questions on the last day of the meditation session. Findings The verbatim descriptions of experiences reported by nursing students were abstracted to elements (17), properties (6), and categories (2). Identified properties are positive experiences, experiences of awareness, energy experiences, tangible outcomes, physiological reactions, and feedback on the study program. Conclusion The experiences narrated by nursing students include positive affective experiences, health benefits, resolution of problem, awareness and energy experiences, and prosocial tendencies. These findings indicate that MTH would enhance the well-being of the nursing students and could be used as a self-care measure.

Premise. According to research, Self-actualization, as conceptualized by Maslow and taken over by the creators of the Big Five Personality model, has strong links with psychological well-being and life satisfaction. Facet descriptors are also a valuable guide for developing a personal development program for young people in the NEET category. In the doctoral research we proposed a behavioral optimization program by developing personality suppressors from the Big Five model, as they were conceptualized and described in the ABCD-M Questionnaire [5]. In this article we present the results obtained for the Selfactualization and its facets. Method. The longitudinal study involved 24 young people, aged between 23 and 26, belonging to the NEET category. Results. Following the participation in the psychological intervention program for the optimization of the behavior, the young people registered significant increases of the Self-actualization Surface and its facets, except for the Deepening.
