The concept of bilingualism is gaining prominence in our daily lives due to political and social reasons. The fact that bilingualism has become an undeniable fact requires investigation of it in educational sciences. How prospective teachers perceive the concept of bilingualism will fill a gap in the literature in terms of understanding educational practices. In this context, the purpose of this study is to determine the perceptions of the Turkish language and literature teacher candidates who have received formation education about the concept of "bilingualism" through metaphors. About 92 Turkish language and literature teacher candidates, studying at Çukurova University, form the research group of the study, for which qualitative research design is adopted. As a data collection tool, each student was given a guidance note with the expression of “bilingualism is like… because…” and the blanks in this guidance note were asked to be filled in. The metaphors obtained in the study were collected in different categories. Content analysis technique was used to analyze the data. According to the results of the research, it was determined that Turkish language and literature teacher candidates who received formation education had positive perceptions about the concept of bilingualism in a total of 12 concept categories.

<p><strong>ABSTRACT</strong></p><p>In this study, it is aimed to reveal the perceptions of 4th grade prospective teachers studying in Kastamonu University with respect to the concept of democracy through metaphors. By giving emphasis on common objectives in line with the metaphors students produced, the inferences were made about what they understand from the democracy and direction of their perceptions. In accordance with the nature of the research, qualitative research design "phenomenological pattern" was used. The study group includes a total of 297 prospective teachers who voluntarily participate the study, including 76 men and 221 women girls studying in the fourth class in Kastamonu University Faculty of Education in the 2016-2017 academic year. A survey form, consisted of 1 open-ended question, was used as data collection tool to set students’ perceptions. The participants were asked to fulfil the “Democracy is like …… because …..” expressions featured in the survey form. Data were analyzed with content analysis technique. The data were analyzed by descriptive analysis. In the study, prospective teachers developed 149 different metaphors about the concept of democracy. According to the results obtained in this study, prospective teachers focused on most freedom sun, seesaw, water, balance, tree, equality, bird, life, justice, father, rainbow, sky, shield, breath, train and conscience metaphors. Teacher candidates see the concept of democracy with metaphors that they develop as a factor changing from the point of view. In the study, it was determined that the perception of democracy changed according to gender. In addition, it is seen that prospective teachers perceive democracy as different from each other according to their branches.</p><p><strong>Öz</strong></p><p>Bu çalışmada, Kastamonu Üniversitesi’nde öğrenim görmekte olan çeşitli branşlara sahip dördüncü sınıf öğretmen adaylarının demokrasi kavramına ilişkin sahip oldukları algıları metaforlar aracılığıyla ortaya çıkarmak amaçlanmaktadır. Bu amaç doğrultusunda oluşturulan metaforların ortak özellikleri üzerinde durularak, yükseköğretimde öğrenim gören öğrencilerin demokrasi hakkındaki algılarının ne yönde olduğu ve demokrasiden ne anladıkları hakkında çıkarımlar yapılmıştır. Çalışmada nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden birisi olan olgubilim deseni kullanılmıştır. Çalışma grubu, 2016-2017 eğitim öğretim dönemi bahar yarıyılında araştırmaya gönüllü olarak katılmayı kabul eden 221’i kız 76’sı erkek olmak 297 öğretmen adayından oluşmaktadır. Öğretmen adaylarının belirlenen kavramlarla ilgili algılarının ortaya koyulması amacıyla veri toplama aracı olarak, bir adet açık uçlu sorudan oluşan form kullanılmıştır. Çalışmada öğretmen adaylarından “Demokrasi … gibidir; çünkü … .” ifadesini tamamlamaları istenerek veriler elde edilmiştir. Elde edilen veriler betimsel analiz yoluyla çözümlenmiştir. Çalışmada öğretmen adayları demokrasi kavramına yönelik 149 farklı metafor geliştirmişlerdir. Bu çalışmada öğretmen adayları bu metaforlardan en fazla özgürlük, güneş, tahterevalli, su, terazi, ağaç, eşitlik, kuş, hayat, adalet, baba, gökkuşağı, gökyüzü, kalkan, nefes, tren ve vicdan metaforları üzerinde durmuşlardır. Öğretmen adayları geliştirdikleri metaforlarla demokrasi kavramını daha çok bakış açısına göre değişen bir unsur olarak görmektedirler. Çalışmada demokrasiyi algılama biçiminin cinsiyete göre değiştiği tespit edilmiştir. Ayrıca öğretmen adaylarının demokrasiyi branşlarına göre birbirlerinden farklı olarak algıladıkları görülmektedir. </p>

The current study was carried out to evaluate cartoons from the perspective of preschool prospective teachers within the scope of Child and Media Lecture in Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University, Faculty of Education, Department of Preschool Education. The working group of the study consisted of 46 cartoon parts evaluated by 24 preschool prospective teachers attending to the lecture of “Child and Media” in the content of final assignments. As a data collection tool, cartoon evaluation form (an unstructured survey form) that was prepared by the researcher was used. The study was conducted following qualitative research method, and it was analyzed with the content analysis technique. At the end of the research, the positive and negative features of protagonist, the positive and negative features of other heroes, the positive and negative effects of cartoon on children, subliminal messages, the personal views and recommendations of the prospective teachers with regard to the cartoons they analyzed were determined. Depending on the results obtained, various recommendations were provided.

The current study was carried out to determine the problems that preschool children experience during COVID-19 and also what could be done from perspectives of preschool prospective teachers. The working group of the study was made up of 45 projects prepared by 15 preschool prospective teachers attending to the midterm exam of lecture of “Practices of social service” in Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University, Faculty of Education, Department of Preschool Education.  As a data collection tool, the project preparation form (A unstructured survey form) that was prepared by the researcher was used.  The study was carried out qualitative research methods and the projects comprising the working group of the study were analyzed with content analysis technique. At the end of the study, the problems that preschool children might experience in the pandemic period, the purposes to decrease these problems to minimum, the concepts and values to be attained and recommendations for projects were determined. Various recommendations were made in line with the findings obtained.

The purpose of this study is to examine the listening anxiety of Turkish language teacher candidates in terms of various variables. “Listening Anxiety Scale” developed by Maden and Durukan (2016) was used as data collection tool in the study conducted by a survey model. The Cronbach's Alpha coefficient of the scale was found to be 0.88. The data of the research was obtained from randomly selected 168 Turkish language teacher candidates studying in Atatürk University in 2017-2018 academic years. The obtained quantitative data by the application of the scale was transferred to SPSS Windows 15 package software program. As the result of the research using statistical package program for data analysis, it was found that even it has not been high, Turkish language teacher candidates have listening anxiety above the average and it was determined that listening anxiety has not differed significantly according to gender, grade, most frequently used language skill, and status of reading books regularly.

The aim of this study is to investigate the problems encountered during education by the Department of Turkish Language and Literature students who receive pedagogical formation training. The case study was used as a qualitative research design, in which students’ opinions were obtained by using a semi-structured interview form. 36 students voluntarily participated in the study, in which the convenience sampling method was used. The collected data were evaluated by using the content analysis method. The findings of the study show that the students consider the formation training necessary; that some of the lecturers did not fully teach the curriculum; they had problems with lighting and heating in the classroom; and they could not focus on the departmental courses due to the addition of the formation courses. In addition, students believe that pedagogical formation training should not be used for commercial purposes.

This study aims to examine the curriculum literacy levels of prospective teachers in terms of various variables. The research sample consists of 469 teacher candidates, including 253 students from the 3rd grade and 216 students from the 4th grade, studying in Primary School Education, Preschool Education, Turkish Education, and Social Studies Education Departments of Inonu University Education Faculty. Curriculum Literacy Scale was used as a data collection tool in the study. In the findings of the study, it was observed that there was a significant difference in various sub-dimensions of the curriculum literacy of prospective teachers by different variables.

The basic purpose of native language teaching is ensuring that students develop their skills in four basic language skills at an adequate level. For this purpose, Turkish Language and Turkish language and literature teachers who work in different teaching levels, especially classroom teachers, have important duties. Reading, which is among basic language skills, is a comprehension ability for individuals to reach new information and improve themselves. The thing that is important in reading is combining new information with previous information, and making sense of new information through previously learned information. A good reader should be able to make evaluations about text in a critical manner, in other words, s/he should be able to read critically. Turkish Language and Turkish Language and Literature teachers, who have the responsibility of giving students reading skills in formal education institutions, must have improved critical reading skills. In this study, the purpose was to determine the critical reading self-efficacy levels of Turkish Language and Turkish Language and Literature teacher candidates through some variables. The study data were collected by using the “Critical Reading Self-Efficacy Scale”. The SPSS 21.00 Program was used to analyze the data. From the analysis of the data, it was found that Turkish Language and Turkish Language and Literature teacher candidates have moderate critical self-efficacy levels. It was also observed that the critical reading self-efficacy perceptions of teacher candidates do not change according to gender; however, the reading self-efficacy perceptions of Turkish Language teacher candidates were found to be higher than that of the Turkish Language and Literature teacher candidates. It was also concluded that the critical reading self-efficacy perceptions of the teacher candidates, who said that they had reading habits, were higher than the teacher candidates, who said that they did not have reading habits.
