Background: The proposal of financial education in classrooms is born in the expectation of changing an irresponsible consumption scenario that society is going through and should be included in all student educational contexts, from elementary to higher education, aiming to provide consumers-individuals with basic notions of economics and consumption. Objective: Analyse how investigative tasks can contribute to the financial education and economics teaching. Design: Methodology of mathematical investigation. Setting and participants: The research was carried out with twelve students in the discipline of Financial Mathematics, in a mathematics program at a university in the state of Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil). Data collection and analysis: This article is characterised as qualitative research and the data produced (tasks, recordings, questionnaire, forum) were analysed through discursive textual analysis. Results: Possibilities of conjectures and resolving strategies; investigative activity importance, in group, for the creativity and autonomy learning and development; critical thinking development in the decision making process; relations between the task and daily life situations; and analysis of difficulties during task execution. Conclusions: Through this study, we conclude that the investigative tasks have contributed for the teaching and learning processes, when the small groups made discoveries and followed different paths during each problem situation solving, they demonstrated enthusiasm, creativity, and autonomy. When the results were compared, at the moment of interaction with the bigger group, the groups realised they could have chosen other paths, or any important factor, which could have been part of the analysis, had not been considered, what yielded several discussions in the classroom as well as in the virtual forum, strengthening a critical and collaborative thinking development.

The research described in this article, of a qualitative nature, has as its central theme the Financial Education. The goal of this study was to investigate whether the application for a course of service of Financial Mathematics, with themes of financial education for students in higher education from a course of the Administration, could awaken a critical spirit, in decision making, these future administrators. Our theoretical inspirations are the ideas of Mathematics Education criticism, in research on Financial Education of Kistemann Jr. (2011), Costa (2012), Hermínio (2008), Campos (2013), Barroso (2013), Resende (2013) and Teixeira (2015). We used the Case Study as a qualitative research methodology, based on the work of Ponte and Yin, which validated the analyses of the profiles of the study subjects and the responses found in the activities undertaken. As the main result of this research highlights the educational product "the insertion of financial education in a course of service of Financial Mathematics, for students of a course in Administration" which had as main objective to propose an alternative to the teaching and learning of mathematical finance in higher education, with the presentation of scenarios for research, with themes concerning the consumption and use of financial instruments

AbstractThis paper investigates the design and development of bio-inspired suture pins that would reduce the insertion force and thereby reducing the pain in the patients. Inspired by kingfisher's beak and porcupine quills, the conceptual design of the suture pin is developed by using a unique ideation methodology that is proposed in this research. The methodology is named as Domain Integrated Design, which involves in classifying bio-inspired structures into various domains. There is little work done on such bio-inspired multifunctional aspect. In this research we have categorized the vast biological functionalities into domains namely, cellular structures, shapes, cross-sections, and surfaces. Multi-functional bio-inspired structures are designed by combining different domains. In this research, the hypothesis is verified by simulating the total deformation of tissue and the needle at the moment of puncture. The results show that the bio-inspired suture pin has a low deformation on the tissue at higher velocities at the puncture point and low deformation in its own structure when an axial force (reaction force) is applied to its tip. This makes the design stiff and thus require less force of insertion.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to present design research investigating the development of sensory textiles with embedded electronics to support the wellbeing of people with late stage dementia in residential care. Design/methodology/approach – The research presented is qualitative and uses a mixed method approach informed by grounded practical theory and positive design methodologies. It uses an inclusive and participatory co-design process involving people with dementia and their families with an interdisciplinary team of experts. Findings – Both the co-design process and the artefacts developed have been beneficial in supporting wellbeing. The textile artefacts have been found to soothe, distract and comfort people with dementia. They have also been shown to facilitate in the moment conversational bridges between family members and carers with persons with dementia. Research limitations/implications – The findings are based on a small cohort of participants, observational reports and descriptive accounts from family members and carers. Practical implications – The paper proposes ways in which simple hand-crafted textiles can be used beneficially to support the wellbeing of people with late stage dementia. It provides examples of how technology can be used to personalise and extend the sensory properties of the artefacts created. Social implications – It promotes an inclusive co-design methodology involving care professionals, carers and people with dementia with designers and technologists. Originality/value – The paper describes new ways of extending sensory properties of textiles through the integration of technology.

PurposeThis paper aims to determine the stage of the life cycle where the trucks of a waste collection fleet from a Colombian city are located through a reliability approach. The reliability analysis and the evaluation of curve of operational costs allow to know the moment in which it is necessary to make decisions regarding an asset, its maintenance or possible replacement.Design/methodology/approachFor a dataset presented as maintenance work orders, the time to failures (TTFs) for each vehicle in the fleet were calculated. Then, a probability density function for those TTFs was fitted to locate each vehicle in a region of the bathtub curve and to calculate the reliability of the whole fleet. A general functional analysis was also developed to understand the function of the vehicles.FindingsIt was possible to determine that the largest proportion of the fleet was in the final stage of the life cycle, in this sense, the entire fleet represent critical assets which in most of cases could be worth replacement or overhaul.Originality/valueIn this study, an address is exposed for the identification of critical equipment by reliability and statistical analysis. This analysis is also integrated with the maintenance management process. This is a broadly interested topic since it allows to support the maintenance and operational decision-making process, indicating the focus of resource allocation all over the entire asset life cycle.

Motivation is a fundamental component in management and organizational behavior courses. At the same time, it can be a complicated topic for teaching and learning due to the number of popular models and theories. The activity described here is a simple and fast way to illustrate the components of two of the most important and practical motivation theories—Equity Theory and Expectancy Theory. The impact of the activity will be realized the moment a disproportional reward is made. We outline implementation steps and provide an extensive list of questions to check students’ understanding of motivation theories. We also provide additional resources (i.e., media suggestions, discussion slides) to enhance classroom presentations. This exercise is designed primarily for management and organizational behavior courses. It can be used effectively with a variety of audiences (i.e., undergraduate, graduate, executive).

This study examines the current trends and complexities in qualitative research in three major language teaching andlearning journals published from 2006–2015. After categorizing 781 articles into quantitative, qualitative, mixedmethods, and other approaches, 226 qualitative research articles were closely examined and further analyzed in termsof four dimensions: approaches, methods, number of participants, and length of research period. The findingsshowed that case study was the most frequently employed approach, followed by ethnography. The study alsoidentified that while interviews, observations, discourse analysis, and conversation analysis were relatively wellutilized, more than 150 different data collection and analysis methods were used. Although the results of the studyshow a tendency to use certain approaches and methods in qualitative research more than others, they alsodemonstrate the complexity and diversity of qualitative research and the difficulty in clarifying and categorizingtypes of qualitative research in language teaching and learning.

Teaching and learning process is an integral in the achievement of human resources who have the skills in the field in accordance with the goals of a college. Students who undergo the study other than he get the knowledge in the field that he studied, will also be given the learning experience given the task by the lecturer supervisor of the course and then the results are feasible for the percentage of campus forums with tools and complete electronic media. Nowadays, the percentage becomes the obstacle by students to get the perfect score, because the percentage is related to the presentation slide which is interesting and easy to understand by the audience. The percentage slide also becomes an assessment at the moment of presentation in front of the class forum, the student is not yet understand how to make an interesting and effective presentation so that the idea is well conveyed. In addition, students also difficult to make a presentation with a combination of images and writing because it has not got the skills to design the slide so much the results of the presentation of what is with a fairly satisfactory percentage value. In today's digital age, it can be said that any profession of someone in the world of organization, both business world and academic world can not be separated from the necessity to do the exposure to explain the purpose of a problem or information. Ability to present good information with an attractive means is necessary to get the ideas and ideas to the person who received the information. Good presentation skills, interesting and informative is needed everyone so that ideas or ideas can be easily understood. One of the media presentations to make the ideas submitted so more informative and interesting is to use Ms. Power point.

Assessment and grading can elicit rage on the part of both learners and teachers.  Can rage lead to creative transformation of classroom cultures to support students in achieving learning goals? Can rage sharpen pedagogical commitments? The author reviews a critical incident of unexpected grading rage that emerged in her once a week three-hour masters level introductory pastoral care classroom, what she did about it in the moment, and how three strategies she employed could be helpful for teaching and learning religion and theology more broadly. When grading rage emerges in the pastoral care classroom and beyond, teaching and learning misunderstanding stories, facilitated by neutral questions in charged contexts, can make room for creative transformation when supported by third voices.

The challenge in this study goes even further: to carry out the reductions through the first collection and analysis of data from postings made in two groups created on Facebook, from two classes of schoolchildren participating in the Educational Project “Learning to Know: research with Whole Body”, which occurs in a Brazilian Public School, object of this study. Therefore, this article presents a small extract of an ongoing PhD. The results point out that a phenomenological analysis of virtual documents requires a very critical observation as well as the need to use a hermeneutic-graft, which in our view allowed us to emerge the first trends of analysis. Finally, the assertions revealed the participation category as one of the elements that could lead all involved in the project to learn together, but also, the contradictions regarding the understanding and comprehension of the type of students' participation in the project, which sometimes seems to be supervised / restricted , sometimes seems full / active. Such a trend seems to us essential for the understanding of the PAC and its influence on the construction of a new space / time to do school.          Keywords: Qualitative Research. The aim of this article is to promote discussion and professional development around the topic of learning difficulties in mathematics, particularly as these pertain to teaching and learning in the middle school years. The article has three sections. In the first section, a review of literature about learning difficulties (LD) in mathematics is presented. Definitional issues are discussed, key underlying causes of LD in mathematics are highlighted and common ‘learner characteristics’ of middle-years students with LD in mathematics are identified. The second part of the article is an overview of a responsive intervention currently being developed to support middle-years students with LD in mathematics. This section describes the implementation of the QuickSmart mathematics intervention with 42 participating students and 12 comparison students enrolled in five schools from a rural area of New South Wales. The results of pre-intervention and post-intervention assessments, using both standardised and achievement-based measures are reported. The findings indicate that the QuickSmart intervention approach improved students’ mathematical knowledge, skills and understandings. In the third section of the article research-validated, curriculum-relevant strategies from the QuickSmart mathematics program are described.
