With its high-tech prosthetics, Icelandic company Össur would like to enable people to live without limitations. The company manufactures most of the components for the artificial limbs at its own production facilities in Reykjavik. To ensure the quality of the highly complex prosthetics, Össur uses two coordinate measuring machines from ZEISS in production. All measured data is gathered in PiWeb software, which generates analyses and documentation at the push of a button.

Background Anesthesia departments and intensive care units represent two advanced, high-tech, and complex care environments. Health care in those environments involves different types of technology to provide safe, high-quality care. Smart glasses have previously been used in different health care settings and have been suggested to assist health care professionals in numerous areas. However, smart glasses in the complex contexts of anesthesia care and intensive care are new and innovative. An overview of existing research related to these contexts is needed before implementing smart glasses into complex care environments. Objective The aim of this study was to highlight potential benefits and limitations with health care professionals' use of smart glasses in situations occurring in complex care environments. Methods A scoping review with six steps was conducted to fulfill the objective. Database searches were conducted in PubMed and Scopus; original articles about health care professionals’ use of smart glasses in complex care environments and/or situations occurring in those environments were included. The searches yielded a total of 20 articles that were included in the review. Results Three categories were created during the qualitative content analysis: (1) smart glasses as a versatile tool that offers opportunities and challenges, (2) smart glasses entail positive and negative impacts on health care professionals, and (3) smart glasses' quality of use provides facilities and leaves room for improvement. Smart glasses were found to be both a helpful tool and a hindrance in caring situations that might occur in complex care environments. This review provides an increased understanding about different situations where smart glasses might be used by health care professionals in clinical practice in anesthesia care and intensive care; however, research about smart glasses in clinical complex care environments is limited. Conclusions Thoughtful implementation and improved hardware are needed to meet health care professionals’ needs. New technology brings challenges; more research is required to elucidate how smart glasses affect patient safety, health care professionals, and quality of care in complex care environments.

This article shows that the deployment of modern high-tech companies in the regions affects the development of smart cities. In particular, it was noted that high-tech companies not only create high-tech products, but also are an example of optimization of management processes, economical consumption of various types of resources, and also serve as one of the factors for the accumulation of intellectual capital and the quality of life of the population in the regions. It is shown that modern advanced technologies of a smart city affect not only the social aspects of the region’s development, serve to improve its legislative, managerial and social foundations, but also encourage megacities to solve the problems of efficient use of the environment.

Since the introduction of automatic teller machines, the online banking industry have evolved rapidly in order to stay abreast of today’s digital savvy customers. By keeping up to date with changes in the external environment as well as consumer needs can elevate the competitive advantage of banks. With that in mind, banks need to ensure that the service quality of the online banking services meets the expectations of its customers. The objective of the study is to evaluate and investigate the online banking customers’ perceptions of the service quality of banks in South Africa (SA) and Indonesia (INA). A survey was conducted among more than 300 respondents from both countries. The results revealed that within the eight dimensions of online banking service quality, each of the countries have different experiences when it comes to “high tech” versus “high touch”. The study has also found significant differences between the perceptions of both SA and INA’s banking customers. By understanding the perceptions of online banking customers in two developing countries can assist financial institutions with the development of new services or technologies that will enhance the online banking experience.

Maintenance is a complex, extensive and important issue in terms of its impact on the quality of manufactured products or services provided in all areas of industry. The importance of predictive maintenance for the industry in the 21st century is crucial. However, the right approach to maintenance management is often underestimated in many companies today, although it can have a very positive effect on the company’s efficiency. Using the example of a practical application, the paper includes a comparison of three main maintenance concepts – classical (reactive), planned, predictive through the simulation software Witness. Maintenance concepts are compared in terms of their ability to solve and eliminate failures that occur in production facilities during operation.

The rapid acceleration of scientific and technological progress, which started at the beginning of the 21st century, has become a decisive factor in influencing the global economy. Who will lead the global innovation race? This problem is especially relevant in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). At the moment, the United States and China are the main participants in the battle for dominance in this area. The author assesses Chinas innovative potential in the field of AI and identifies its achievements in this area. Based on the statistics provided, Chinas AI leadership has reached a critical point. China is confidently leading the new fundamental research of artificial intelligence, forming its theoretical base and applied research and development, which will contribute to the creation of new high-tech innovative products and services. However, in terms of the number and quality of AI specialists (AI Talents) and the number of companies engaged in AI, China is still lagging behind its main rival, namely the United States. The author proved that, despite the obvious successes of China, the United States still has an equal lead in the global innovation race.

The paper is devoted to improving managerial tools to ensure the effective implementation of technological breakthrough in the Russian economy. Solving the tasks of socio-economic development of the country, improving the quality of life of the population, ensuring its geopolitical position is impossible without accelerated economic growth. To ensure it, a technological breakthrough is needed in the Russian economy. In order to create appropriate conditions, new management mechanisms are needed in high-tech corporations. The methodological base of the study is based on the provisions of the theory of corporate governance, system, factor, functional and statistical analysis. The paper analyzes the experience of organizations of accelerated technological development and concludes on the effective structure of the managerial apparatus, which coordinates and monitors the activities of corporations. The main directions of state policy to ensure economic growth are identified, a factor analysis of its effectiveness and mechanisms for the formation of the conditions for the implementation of technological breakthrough are carried out. The domestic scientific potential of providing a technological breakthrough in the Russian economy is shown, the effectiveness of mechanisms for converting scientific achievements into breakthrough technologies is considered. The analysis results carried out in the work indicate the absence of a system of concentration of scientific potential for the creation of high-tech innovations. The structure of the scientific and technical platform for generating knowledge and its transformation into competitive technologies in priority sectors of the real sector of the economy is proposed, its organizational form is determined. The work results can be used in solving strategic problems of modernization of high-tech manufacturing industries.

Specific ways of the emergence of new actors in the global market of pharmaceutical goods is investigated, with substantiating the role of transnational corporations (TNC), their investment and technologies in establishing pharmaceutical industries in developing countries. The cases of Puerto Rico and Ireland are taken in order to demonstrate the background for expansion of manufacturing of medicines and medical products and analyze the tendencies in their export capacity building. The factors making pharmaceutical TNC transfer production facilities to India and China are substantiated and implications of this process are highlighted. It is revealed that due to the production internationalization, countries that had been net importers of pharmaceuticals just several decades ago have joined the group of key suppliers to external markets. Because American and European TNC are leading in the pharmaceutical industry by R&D expenditure, they are the principal holders of advanced technologies in the industry. It follows that manufacturing of medicines and medical products in most part of countries either directly or indirectly depend on innovative products of TNC and their technology transfer via various channels (both licensing and imports of components, active pharmaceutical ingredients in particular). It is shown that with the emergence of new market actors coming from developing countries, traditional approaches to determining comparative advantages of counties in the global trade need to be improved. The cases of countries that are recipients of foreign technologies, on which territories powerful high tech pharmaceutical production facilities with high shares of intermediate consumption and heavy export supplies are located due to TNC investment or local public-private capital, give evidence that the classical RCA indicator allows to measure visible comparative advantages in the trade in goods rather than revealed ones. It is proposed that analyses of advantages at country level should include the indicator of high tech goods supplies, to provide for a more accurate description of the innovation component in advanced industries. A new approach to the assessment of comparative advantages of high tech pharmaceutical manufacturing is proposed and tested, which is based on the principle of specialization and use of the ratio of Comparative Advantage in Value Added Activity (CAVA) in particular. It is revealed that the pharmaceutical industry of Ireland, Jordan, Singapore, India or Columbia, with reliance on foreign investment and technologies, could gain advantages in value added creation and dominate the national economies. It is shown that Ukraine is enhancing the advantages in value added creation in the pharmaceutical industry; is it substantiated that due to low R&D and innovation performance and heavy dependence on imported components, capacity building of this industry and its current advantages result from global tendencies and global market conjunctures rather than from the implementation of the national science & technology priorities. According to the author’s recommendation, the proposed approach to determining comparative advantages in value added creation should be used for the assessment of other high tech industries, apart from the pharmaceutical industry, and that is should be supplemented by statistical tools for analysis of foreign trade in finished and intermediate high tech goods.

Ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) is a kind of high-tech cementitious material with superb mechanical and durability properties compared to other types of concrete. However, due to the high content of cement and silica fume used, the cost and environmental impact of UHPC is considerably higher than conventional concrete. For this reason, several efforts around the world have been made to develop UHPC with greener and less expensive local pozzolans. This study aimed to design and produce UHPC using local fly ash available in Colombia. A numerical optimization, based on Design of Experiments (DoE) and multi-objective criteria, was performed to obtain a mixture with the proper flow and highest compressive strength, while simultaneously having the minimum content of cement. The results showed that, despite the low quality of local fly ashes in Colombia, compressive strength values of 150 MPa without any heat treatment can be achieved.

In work is described practical approach to the expert system building for the analysis skeleton planar scintigramms. The aim is to analyze the numerical characteristics of bone metastases by scintigraphy. Objective. Progress in the development of bioinformatics and mathematical methods in biomedicine, as well as the development of computer and telecommunications systems and networks determines the look of the present and future of oncology technology and of medicine in general. At last years of one of the directions of high-tech-medicine development is a processing the digital image: improvement of quality of image, recovering image, its recognition of separate elements. Recognition of pathological processes is one of the most important problems of processing the medical image. Methods and results. Method of computer-aided analysis of planar osteostsintigrammy studied the skeleton of patients with breast cancer are in complete remission and in the phase progression of the disease with metastases to the skeleton. As analyzed parameter was used brightness of images. The study of the physiological accumulation of radiopharmaceuticals in patients without metastasis to the skeleton indicates a wide variation in the brightness values of the scintigram in some areas of the skeleton. At the same anatomical areas of the skeleton there are significant differences in the values of the index of average brightness. In almost all areas of the skeleton averages of the brightness lesions hyperfixation RFP for scintigram significantly prevail over those of «physiological» lesions hyperfixation. Thus, there is a direct relationship between the levels of accumulation of the radiopharmaceutical in areas of the skeleton without metastatic lesion and bone metastases occurring in these zones. Consider methodological approaches to studies of quality of qualifier at the expert system building for the analysis skeleton planar scintigramms, as well as results of conducting calculations.
