Preference of Arthropod to Color of Trap on Arabica Coffee Plantation in Atang Jungket Village Aceh Tengah DistrictAbstract. Arthropods are the most dominant phylum among other animal phyla when viewed from the diversity, distribution, and number of species. In arabica coffee plantation there arthropods that act as herbivor, natural enemies, pollinating insects, neutral insects, and decomposers. In general, the management actions carried out by farmers on coffee plantations in Atang Jungket Village, Central Aceh District is to use synthetic pesticides regardless of agro-ecosystem condition. For coffee agro-ecosystem to remain stable and sustainable, it is necessary to do an environmentally friendly management action that is by using color trap where the process of invention of insect host is based on visual factor which aim to know color of trap were liked by arthropod in arabica coffee plantation area. This research uses purposive sampling method with 5,000 land area of 138 plants, then divided into four plots in a row. Each plot was taken 20 sample plants using red, yellow, green, and white traps. The observed variables include the composition and abundance of arthropods based on the trap color, the family similarity index between the trap colors, and the relative density of the Scolytidae Family. The results showed that the arthropods were 2,062 individuals consisting of 2 classes, 12 orders, and 72 families. The Hymenoptera Order is the order of the largest number of individuals. The yellow trap is the most arthropod trap of 552 individuals compared to the red, green, and white traps of 547 individuals, 527 individuals and 436 individuals each. The value of the arthropod family similarity index between the trap colors is low, meaning that the diversity of families that make up the community is high. The Scolytidae Family density was 0.02 individuals/m2 and the relative density was 0.04%. This indicates that the management of land and plants are ecologically still profitable, not threatening the sustainability of cultivation of crops.

ABSTRACT

A research study was conducted to determine the demographic structure of Emilia sonchifolia L. in a coffee plantation in Armenia, Quindío, Colombia. Data were collected over a period of four weeks on three sites: inside, at the border and outside a coffee farm. A logistic population model was built to describe the population behavior of E. sonchifolia over time. Statiscally significant differences were found between: number of individuals per life stage in time, mortality rate, transition time from seedling to juvenile and from juvenile to adult; and number of leaves and branches. There was no evidence for statistically significant differences in population density or in number of inflorescences and fruits between study sites. In general, the observed behavior may be attributed to the r strategy used by this species. Finally, our results suggest the survival of the species is conditioned by the presence of all life stages at the beginning of each simulation based on the logistic model; so, a potential strategy for its controlling would require the removal during the juvenile stage. The considerations offer alternatives regarding weed population management.

Abstract. Ikhsan Z, Hidrayani, Yaherwandi, Hamid H. 2020. The diversity and abundance of Hymenoptera insects on tidal swamp rice field in Indragiri Hilir District, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 21: 1020-1026. Hymenoptera is one of the four largest insect orders and it plays a vital role in human life as pollinators, parasitoids, and predators. Hymenoptera parasitoids are particularly important as agents of biological control of pest. The objective of this research was to study the diversity and abundance of Hymenoptera on tidal swamp rice field in Indragiri Hilir District, Riau Province, Indonesia. Samplings were conducted in 3 sub-districts of rice production centers, namely Batang Tuaka, Keritang and Reteh, using four trapping techniques (i.e. insect net, malaise trap, pitfall trap, and yellow pan trap). Shannon diversity index (H '), Krebs evenness index (E), and Jaccard similarity index (Is) were calculated. We found 4,701 individuals consisting of 39 families and 319 species of Hymenoptera at the three studied areas. Tidal swamp rice in Indragiri Hilir District had a high species diversity of Hymenoptera parasitoids and Hymenoptera predators, but a moderate species diversity of Hymenoptera pollinators. Species diversity and evenness of Hymenoptera parasitoids and predators were higher in Keritang than in Batang Tuaka and Reteh. The families of Formicidae, Braconidae, Ichneumonidae, and Scelionidae had the highest number of species, while Formicidae, Scelionidae, Diapriidae, and Braconidae had the highest number of individuals. Based on these findings, the abundance and diversity of Hymenoptera insects in Indragiri Hilir District have the potentials to be developed as biological agents to control pests on tidal swamp rice in this area.

Specialty coffee is generally found in areas with an altitude around 1000 meters above sea level (m a.s.l.) and is known to have a different distinctive flavor. One of the coffee plantations in South Sulawesi that has the potential to upgrade its status as a specialty coffee is the Sinjai regency. The sensory quality and chemical characteristics are the most important component of specialty coffee. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the chemical compounds and sensory quality in Manipi coffee beans in South Sulawesi, which has the potential to be classified as specialty coffee. The coffee cherries were collected from two locations based on different altitudes namely MA1 = 1200 m a.s.l. and MA2 = 1400 m a.s.l. The coffee cherries directly processed the wet method referring to Enrekang Arabica as a reference sample EA1 = 1200 m a.s.l. and EA2 = 1400 m a.s.l. The results showed that the chemical content and quality of sensory in Manipi Arabica coffee beans were affected by altitude. MA2 had the highest protein content (13.26%), lipid (7.67%), and caffeine (1.42%), whereas green arabica coffee beans with the highest carbohydrate content was MA1 (23.38%). The Enrekang Arabica were similar in terms of Manipi Arabica coffee beans had the highest protein, lipid, and caffeine content at an altitude of 1400 m a.s.l. respectively (12.41%), (10.73%), and (1.32%). The sensory quality of MA1 is 85.75, relatively similar to MA2 is 85.25. The Manipi Arabica coffee beans showed a specific flavor, namely brown sugar and vanilla notes from both altitudes. It had the potential to be developed into specialty coffee with a cup test score > 80.

This research study contributes to the knowledge of the diversity and similarity of vegetation more than 5 cm diameter at breast height (DBH); the study was carried out in the montane forest located in Tungurahua, Pillaro, Baquerizo Moreno, Indiviso (01°18’S, 78°30’W), at an altitude of 30,400 m. A transect of 1000 m² was made, divided into 5 plots of 50×4 m. The species were identified by the ESPOCH Herbarium, and the values calculated were relative density (DR) and relative dominance (DMR) to obtain the Importance Index (IV). 18 families, 29 genera, and 33 species were found, corresponding to 249 individuals, in which the largest number of individuals were accounted for by Escallonia myrtilloides (8.03%), Macleania rupestris (7.63%), Vaccinium floribundum (6.02%), Gynoxis buxifolia and Miconia bracteolata with 5.62%, Bacharis teindalensis and Blechnum loxensis with 4.82%, and Maytenus vertillata, Hypericum laricifolium, Tibouchina lepidota, Brachyotum ledifolium, Sympoccos with 4.02%; the remaining species had lower values. The reason for finding both species of shrub paramo and high montane forest is not so clear, since physiognomically the area under study was a high montane forest. Furthermore, no studies have been conducted in other transition zones, but for this reason, a high number of species of two types of vegetation is found. Keywords: analogue flowering, shrub paramo, high montane forest, indiviso.
