A good literary work can provide information about various kinds of community life,including life related to religiosity. Literary works are closely related to religisiutas,because of that, various works appearing showing the religiosity of society, one ofwhich is the Javanese. Modern Indonesian literary works that illustrate this are thecollection of short stories from Umi Kalsum by Djamil Suherman, the lyrical prosePengakuan Pariyem by Linus Suryadi AG, and the novel Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk byAhmad Tohari. Each of these works represents the diversity of Javanese society. Thecollection of short stories from Umi Kalsum shows the religious side of the communitycalled the santri who are so obedient in carrying out their worship. The lyrical proseof Pariyem's confession provides information on how a babu is so resigned to seeinglife, but in her soul holds the wisdom of Kejawen. Meanwhile, Ronggeng Dukuh Parukdescribes the Javanese people who worship the spirits of their ancestors. Even thoughthey have different religions, they basically want harmony. Javanese people who livein santri enjoy harmony when they live with strong Islamic values. The Javanesepeople of the Gunung Kidul area live in harmony if they are always nrimo and see lifeas it is according to its Javanese nature. The Dukuh Paruk community attainsharmony that originates from the worship of the spirit of Ki Secamenggala.

ABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap suara-suara masyarakat yang dimarginalkan dalam kumpulan cerpen Orang-Orang Pinggiran karya Lea Pamungkas. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori sosiologi sastra dengan metode penelitian deskripsi kualitatif hermeneutik. Sumber data penelitian ini adalah karya sastra berupa kumpulan cerpen Orang-Orang Pinggiran karya Lea Pamungkas. Data pada penelitian ini berupa teks yang memperlihatkan suara-suara masyarakat pinggiran. Hasil penelitian ini berupa marginalisasi terhadap perempuan dan kelompok masyarakat. Marginalisasi pada perempuan, yaitu perempuan dianggap hanya sebagai subjek pemuas nafsu kaum laki-laki. Marginalisasi terhadap kelompok masyarakat ini berupa suara yang diabaikan dalam memenuhi kebutuhan sehingga menyebabkan kemiskinan Indonesia.Kata kunci: kumpulan cerpen, marginal, masyarakat pinggiran, sosiologi sastra ABSTRACT This study aims to reveal the voices of the marginalized in a collection of short stories Orang-Orang Pinggiran by Lea Pamungkas. This research uses sociology of literature theory with hermeneutic qualitative description research method. The Source of this research is a literary work in the form of a collection of short stories from Orang-Orang Pinggiran by Lea Pamungkas. The data in this study are in the form of texts that show the voices of marginalized communities. The result of this research is the marginalization of women and community groups. Marginalization of women, women are considered only as a subject to satisfy the lust of men. The marginalization of this community groups is in the form of their a voice that is ignored in meeting their needs, causing poverty in Indonesia.Keywords: a collection of short stories, marginal, marginal societ, literary sociology

This essay discusses Grigorije Bozovic's literary and publicistic work and the degree to which it offers factography for anthropogeographical anthropological (that is, related to racial features), ethnographic ethnopsychological, sociological and characterological studies of our nation living in the regions discussed in his literary and publicistic works. The author particularly analyses his traveller's reports Sa sedla i samara (From the Saddle and Pack-Saddle), Crte i reze (Lines and Bars), Po Drenici (In Drenica) and others; it also analyses the short stories published in Srpska Knjizevna Zadruga (Serbian Literary Cooperative) (Rodjak / A Relative) and in the collections with the titles Roblje Zarobljeno (Captured Slaves) and Neizmisljeni Likovi (Nonfictional Characters). On the basis of the reviews and analyses of Grigorije Bozovic's publicistic and literary works in this essay, one could make a conclusion that they represent a significant scientific material and more than just that, the material relevant for the study of our and other nations in these Balkan regions.

Abstract— Literary work, directly or indirectly, is the realization and imagination of the author as a reflection and the reality that the author gets from society. Literary works can be found through the life forms of society. Thus, literary works cannot be separated from the elements around them. Literary work along its journey always implicate man, humanity, life, and life. In essence, literary works are born for the surrounding community. Literary works are the products of authors who live in the social world. That way, short story literary works in the form of fairy tales are the author's imaginative world that is always related to social life. There are interesting things that are given to our children to change attitudes and daily ethics. Keywords—: Literary works; short stories; fairy tales.

David Bergelson (b. 1884–d. 1952) was the most important Yiddish modernist prose writer of the 20th century. His innovations in style, character, and especially atmospherics, or “mood,” earned him immediate praise from literary critics, who saw him as the first Yiddish modernist. The fates and feelings of his characters, the settings, and his elliptical, decentered style reflect a unified artistic emotion, the highlight of his fiction. Bergelson wrote short stories, novels, essays, plays, and articles for newspapers and journals, including Eygns, Milgroym, and In shpan, which he founded and edited. Bergelson’s oeuvre can be divided into his Kiev period (until 1919), during which he wrote the novels The End of Everything and Departure, his self-imposed exile in Berlin (1921–1933), and the Soviet period (1934–1952). The Berlin exile was a time of great creativity, as well as a political turning point. Bergelson rather ambiguously proclaimed his turn to communism in 1926. This ideological turn, and the tragedy of his death (he was one of the prominent Soviet Yiddish writers killed on Stalin’s orders on August 12, 1952), has until recently overshadowed engagement with his literary work. Reappraisals of his literary creativity as a whole, and especially after his self-proclaimed turn to communism after 1926, are changing the overall evaluation.

f on a winter's night a traveler is considered one of the greatest novels by Italian writer Italo Calvino. Published in 1979, this literary work, which belongs to the postmodernist narrative style in the form of a frame story, tells about a reader trying to read a book with the same title from beginning to end. Much of the story’s content was written in the second-person’s narration, implying that “you” (the Reader) are the protagonist of the novel. Embedded inside are ten short stories (the loose ends of different novels) read by the main character, which causes the book to constantly switch between settings, narrators, and styles. If on a Winter’s Night a Traveler is truly a perfect illustration for the literary style characterized by metafiction and postmodernism. The novel is a conscious textual play with various techniques employed such as authorial role limitation, reader involvement in the plot line, open structure, non-linearity, fragmentation, multiplicity, and intertextuality. By effectively using these devices, Calvino deconstructs the traditional novel form and creates a new structure which shows a parallel between the processes of writing and reading a text. Calvino acts as the supreme game-master taking control of both the characters and the real players, who have been pushed into this game-like novel. This article focuses on analyzing the charactericstics of metafiction, the Droste effect and deconstruction in Calvino’s novel If on a winter's night a traveler, thereby helping to grasp his playful language and his narrative techniques as well as to discover his metafictional discourse.

AbstractKalīlah wa Dimnah, a compendium of individual tales and short stories, is a very well-known Middle Eastern literary work. Although it can not match the popularity of the ‘One Thousand and One Nights’, it is nevertheless sufficiently well known to have attracted scholarly interest for decades. As a result, a considerable volume of scholarly writing has been produced regarding its origin and importance.This article focuses on the origin of one story in the work, the trial of Dimnah. Since the Indian original is missing, accepted wisdom attributes the writing of this story to its first Arabic translator, Ibn al-Muqaffac. Although I do not challenge this view, I argue that there could be an Urtext in Middle Persian which was later rewritten by the famous translator. In what follows, this article provides evidence for this hypothesis from what at first glance might be considered a surprising perspective – Sasanian legal history.

  This study analyzed social problems as reflected in the Preman, an anthology of short story by Tiwiek SA.  The social problems were encountered in the attitudes the characters of the stories occured.  The study used ontent analysis that use psycholinguistics as an analysis of a literary work.  Sources of the study was an anthology consisting of six short stories.  The study revealed that social conflict in the story reflected problems in social daily live where Javanese community normally faced. The problems include: thuggery, clashes, greedines, infidelity, prostitution, economy, and social inequality.  Themes of good and bad conducts also appeared as performed by the primary characters.

The collection Strength Breaks the Straw, published in St. Petersburg in 1874 by the Circle of Tchaikovsky, marked the heyday of the literary work of Nikolai Ivanovich Naumov, a Siberian writer and official. The works of this collection were originally published in leading democratic journals of this period and later entered the pantheon of populist fiction and won the attention of many contemporaries and researchers in the future. A relevant aspect in the study of Naumov’s creative heritage of the first half of the 1870s, i.e. the mentioned collection, is the understanding of the mutual influence of the various social fields he was engaged in during these years sequentially or in parallel and, accordingly, of his various institutional activities closely connected with literary ones, in particular, with the aesthetics and poetics of the collection. The article explores the mechanisms of influence of these various social fields on Naumov’s literary activities during this period. It reveals the poetic and aesthetic features of the works of the collection caused by the historical and literary trends, by the ideological influence of populism, and by Naumov’s own tasks as a Siberian writer and official. The analysis showed that the features of the works are caused not only by the main trends of populist ideology and fiction, but also by the tasks that Naumov tried to solve in the course of his institutional activities. His works of the first half of the 1870s, which the Tchaikovtsy used to spread their ideology, aimed at satisfying the demands of the mass reader and also at creating his “ideal” reader, which regionalists sought from Naumov. The exceptional documentary nature creating a “reality effect” and directly related to the author’s ubiquitous voice permeating the structure of each essay was a means for Naumov to form the reader’s reception, primarily that of a reader from people and from Siberia. On the other hand, the documentary nature of Naumov’s essays is caused not only by the trends associated with the flourishing of realism and the search for means of transmission of the truth of life in fiction, but also by the writer’s previous public service, which provided him with rich factual material and influenced the nature of its presentation in literature. This mutual influence was largely supported by the fact that, in the considered period, Naumov occupied homologous positions in various social fields.
