This study applied self-determination theory (SDT) to investigate the relationships between work motivation and work behaviour of Chinese employees and the moderating role of financial stress. Data were obtained from 245 employees of five organisations in China using a convenience sampling technique. The results indicated that autonomous motivation positively predicted work performance and innovative work behaviour, while controlled motivation had a positive effect only on work performance of employees. In addition, financial stress moderated the relationships between autonomous motivation and work performance and innovative work behaviour of employees. Specifically, the beneficial effect of autonomous motivation on work performance and innovative work behaviour disappeared when financial stress was high. The findings of the present study supported cultural similarities in the positive role of autonomous motivation and showed cultural differences in the role of controlled motivation. The implications of this study are also discussed.

This study differs from previous studies on open source software (OSS) developer motivation by drawing upon theories of volunteerism and work motivation to investigate the motives and attitudes of OSS volunteer developers. The role of commitment is specifically interesting, which is well established in the volunteerism and work motivation literature as a predictor of turnover and positively related to work performance, but has been overlooked by OSS researchers. The authors have developed a research model relating motivations, commitment, satisfaction, and length of service to intention to contribute to OSS projects in the future. The research model is evaluated using data from an online survey of 181 OSS volunteer developers. The research results and more discussion of these areas of interest will be evaluated and discussed further in the article.

This study aims to analyze changes in the government bureaucracy in providing administrative services in the COVID-19 era. To analyze the problem, we used a qualitative descriptive method. Observation, documentation, and interviews are the main methods of data collection. The results showed that at the beginning of service during the COVID-19 period, employees were still very slow in responding to community services, but over time the Camat of the Teluk Ambon District Office always provided work motivation and improved services. Aspects of Responsibility were found at the time of the study that the Teluk Ambon District office employees had a high responsibility in completing and providing services to the community. Disciplinary aspects, from the study results, public awareness in maintaining the discipline of health protocols are still very minimal; This is indicated by employees always giving warnings to keep their distance when providing services. In this case, leadership is a determining factor in running the wheels of government organization well and quickly. The Camat as the leader of Ambon Bay always provides advice and work motivation to State Civil Apparatus Employees or non-permanent employees to provide services to the community even in the COVID-19 condition.

Purpose Today, organizations work hard to improve the motivation of their employees and related knowledge, skills and abilities to enhance work performance. Among many other variables, self-efficacy proved to have an influential role in work performance. The main purpose of the current study is to investigate the role of occupational self-efficacy on work performance through intrinsic motivation by using a longitudinal analysis. Design/methodology/approach Participants were 76 employees from diverse organizations operating in an organized industrial region in Turkey. Participants filled in a weekly questionnaire during ten consecutive weeks. Findings Results of multilevel analyses confirmed our hypotheses by showing that occupational self-efficacy and intrinsic motivation have a significant influential role over work performance, and intrinsic motivation serve as a partial mediator in this relationship. Originality/value The study findings also reveal important information for organizational and managerial practices to improve employee motivation and performance.
