There is another general wellbeing emergencies undermining the world with the rise and spread of 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) or the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The infection started in bats and was transmitted to people through yet obscure go-between creatures in Wuhan, Hubei territory, China in December 2019. There are more than 48,15,484 infected cases all around the globe. This can be transmitted from one to another very quickly only by coughing or sneezing or direct contact with infected person. World Health Organization also has stated that there is no future course of this virus is available till now. As a preventive measure the complete stop on outgoings i.e. lockdown is surrendered. The lockdown all over the country or all around the globe is becoming a huge crisis for the economy and of countries the life cycle of the humans. The lockdown has affected all the businesses, works, private sectors as well as government sectors. Background: Adequate consumption of fruits and vegetables (FV) is associated with reduced risks of various diseases, especially due to their nutrient, fiber, and bioactive compound content. Polyphenols are included in this last class. In Brazil, as in several other regions of the world, consumption of FV is low. Data on the importance of the recommended intake of FV for the ingestion of these compounds and subclasses are scarce. Objective: To estimate the intake of polyphenols by Brazilian adults and to verify the impact of the recommended consumption of FV for this intake. Methods: Data from 21,959 adults were obtained from the Brazilian Dairy Survey of the Household Budget Survey (POF 2008-2009). Food intake was estimated from a single food register. Polyphenol intake was calculated using the Phenol-Explorer database. To evaluate the impact of FV on the consumption of polyphenols, the population was divided into two groups according to the FV intake as recommended by the World Health Organization. Results: The average consumption of phenolic compounds was 441.04 mg among individuals consuming less than 400 g of FV daily, and 651.86 mg those consuming equal or more than 400 g daily. In addition, individuals consuming 400 g or more FV per day consumed approximately 12 times more phenolic from FV, especially flavonoids and the anthocyanin and flavanone subclasses. Conclusions: The high consumption of FV is essential for a higher dietary intake and diversity of polyphenols and flavonoids compounds by the Brazilian population.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has had an unprecedented impact on the world of work, and we see a corresponding shift in the talent management and assessment spheres. This commentary reflects on the impact the pandemic has had on organisations’ human resource (HR) practices in general and on assessment practices in particular. Informed by insights drawn from a series of in-depth interviews with representatives of organisations in South Africa and on the broader African continent, we consider recent trends in unproctored internet testing (UIT) and virtual or video interviewing technologies that appear central to how organisations have adapted their assessment practices in a COVID-19 world. We also consider the role of various assessment practices in retrenchment and restructuring applications. Finally, potential implications for organisations and their assessment practices when moving towards a post-COVID-19 world are discussed.

Introduction: COVID-19 infection has spread throughout the world and is considered a pandemic. Since its appearance, the number of non-COVID-19 patients admitted to hospitals has decreased and patients differ care for emergency diseases. We analyze the impact of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus pandemic on the management of acute cholecystitis. Material and methods: Retrospective observational study that includes all patients diagnosed with acute cholecystitis during the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus pandemic (period between March 11th and June 21st, 2020) and patients diagnosed with acute cholecystitis in the same period, the previous year in our center. Patient’s features, management, postoperative complications and mean hospital stay were compared. Results: In 2020, 19 patients with acute cholecystitis were diagnosed compared to 21 who were registered in the same period in 2019. The mean number of days from symptoms onset in 2020 was 2.42±1.8 days, while in 2019 it was 3.5±3.1 days (p=0.32). The percentage of cholecystectomies, percutaneous cholecystostomies and conservative management was similar in both periods. Among patients who underwent cholecystectomy in 2020, 37.5% had no complications, 62.5% had accidental opening of the gallbladder, and none had bleeding. Among patients who underwent cholecystectomy in 2019, 81.8% had no complications, 9.09% had accidental opening of the gallbladder, and 9.09% presented bleeding. The mean stay in 2020 was 4.21±3.2 days, compared to 8.57±7.4 days in 2019 (p=0.005). Two patients of 19 diagnosed with acute cholecystitis in 2020 had COVID-19 disease. Conclusion: The mean stay of the patients was shorter in 2020 period. These results can be explained by an early surgical management. So, early laparoscopic cholecystectomy should be considered as a treatment for acute cholecystitis in COVID-19 times if the clinical and hospital situation allows it. We found no differences in the number of patients diagnosed with acute cholecystitis between the two periods, nor in the mean number of days from the onset of symptoms.

The impact of vocational schools on student’s performance is controversial in the world literature. Thus, this paper contributes to such debate by evaluating the performance of Vocational Education State School (VESS) students on secondary education exams in a case study for the state of Ceará (Brazil). This is done through matching techniques applied to a unique longitudinal database. Among the results, it is highlighted that the mean effect of the VESS treatment is positive and significant in all knowledge areas of the exams, especially in Writing, for which the effect of VESSs on student performance exceeded that of students from regular schools by 40%.

AbstractObjective:Consumption of fruits and vegetables (F&V) among adolescents falls below recommendations in many Western countries. The impact of social and emotional aspects of family life on adolescent dietary behaviour may contribute to this, yet remains under-investigated. The present study examines the association between adolescents’ perceptions of emotional home atmosphere (EHA) and their F&V consumption frequency.Design:An FFQ was used to assess F&V consumption frequency. EHA was assessed by an eight-item measure with three subscales: perceived home warmth, strictness and relational tension. EHA subscales were used as binary variables: a score equal to or above the median value was considered as a higher perception, while a score below the median was considered as a lower perception of the EHA in question. Country differences in meeting the European 5-a-day recommendations were described. Further, the association between EHA and F&V consumption frequency was investigated using multiple linear regression.Setting:Regional examination centres in eight European countries.Participants:Adolescents (n 3196) aged 12–18 years. Results:The mean F&V consumption frequency was 3·27 (sd 2·84) times/d. Only 16·1 % of boys and 18 % of girls in our study sample met the recommendation of five F&V daily. After controlling for age, sex, education level of the parents and country of origin, perceived home warmth was associated with a 16 (95 % CI 9, 22) % higher F&V consumption frequency (P < 0·001).Conclusions:F&V consumption frequency was suboptimal in the survey areas. Interventions targeting perceived warmth as a component of EHA could potentially have a positive effect on adolescents’ dietary behaviour.

Cricketer Phillip Hughes died after being struck by a ball in a match, triggering a rare example of commemorative journalism of an Australian athlete in his prime. This case study explores the perceptions of print and online cricket journalists who covered the story, providing an analysis of how their emotions influenced their reporting of an event they were professionally and personally involved in. Employing this approach differs from the dominant focus of examining content in commemorative journalism scholarship. The circumstances of the Hughes story created an unfamiliar environment for cricket journalists, who had to deal with their own emotions while being messengers to audiences in Australia, and across the world. The impact of social media also altered the direction of aspects of the coverage through the Twitter hashtag #putoutyourbats. To examine elements of this commemorative journalism example, in-depth interviews were conducted with 11 Australian cricket journalists. The results reflect the respondents’ difficulties in covering the story, their usage of emotion in their work, and their perceptions of social media’s influence.

Aylan Kurdi, a three year old Syrian boy’s image carried on the front pages of newspapers and magazines in September 2015 was enough to stop the world in its tracks. It embodied the ravages of the Syrian war which has made headlines in newspapers and in the mass media in the past few years. Photo journalism is “Journalism in which written copy is subordinate to pictorial presentation of news stories or in which a high proportion of pictorial presentation is used, is broadly news photography” according to Miriam Webster’s dictionary. News photography sears, it captures reality. It is a necessity in this world which requires evidence and substantiation. This paper aims to study the photos related to the war in Syria; especially photos of Aylan Kurdi a three year old boy washed ashore while escaping with his family from Syria. The impact of these photographs on readers has been made through a qualitative study with in-depth interviews. The disturbing nature of the photographs, the knowledge about the war in Syria, the need and necessity of using of such photographs in media, feelings evoked, and the impact of the photographs by being shown on social media was gauged through a questionnaire and in-depth interviews.
