This work focuses on the influence of the media on the education of young people in Mali. The emphasis is on the out-of-school pedagogy and informal education lessons that emerge. The objective is to emphasize the educational interests linked to the media in the education of the youth in Mali. To do this, we used the qualitative method through semi-structured interviews and documentary research. It results from the investigations that the media cannot act as educators because of their reification and because education must be interactive and retroactive. This lack of dialogue between the learner and the media concerned relegates the latter to a secondary level. In the context of out-of-school pedagogy and informal education, the media can still play a major role due to their preponderance in social processes, including education and learning. This requires an organization of media productions and a strong involvement of institutions (families, schools, etc.) for objective framing.

AbstractThe paper aims to demonstrate that violence is far from a regular practice in Ultra groups, despite its notorious visibility as transmitted by the media. The paper attempts to demonstrate that Ultra groups are a social space of leisure for young people, rather than a space for violence. Actually, having used observation through direct participation and having registered the discourses of Ultra group members, it is possible to demonstrate that life in these groups represents, for many, not only a break from difficult everyday life, but also the only and/or the most important moment of social leisure in their lives.The object of this research was four Ultra groups who support the teams of Oporto City: Super Dragõe, Colectivo Ultras 95 (both support Futebol Clube do Porto), Panteras Ngeras (supporting Boavista Futebol Clube), and Alma Salgueirista (supporting Sport Comércio e Salgueiros). The research was based on observation through direct participation made among the groups over six years. Also conducted were 90 semi-structured interviews, 20 autobiographical narratives, and surveys (sample 206 for estimated n=1766).

It is known that an informal learning environment (i.e., out-of-school) increases the quality of teaching and learning activities. Informal environments also provide many advantages such as enriching the content of learning. Moreover, it is emphasised that the science-technology-society-environment (STSE) learning does not effectively involve in the Turkish education system. From this point of view, informal learning environments should be considered in order to enable students’ understanding of the STSE relation. Within the scope of this study, it was aimed to determine the effectiveness of study visit on students’ understanding of STSE. The research was conducted with 14 male students in the 5th-grade level in the 2016– 2017 academic year. This research, which used a recycling-solid waste collection centre, a botanic garden, a planetarium, a science centre and a zoo, a few informal learning environments, was conducted according to the case study design method. In the study, views on science-technology-society questionnaire, semi-structured interviews, observation forms and diaries were used as data collection tools. The data indicated that the informal learning environments were inadequate to promote conceptual change; however, it was effective to comprehend newly learnt concepts. In addition, it was also concluded that informal learning environment provided students to capture the understanding of STSE relations. The dissonance between what teenagers learn in classrooms and their everyday lives is not a recent phenomenon, but it is increasingly relevant as school systems are unable to follow the evolution of media and society beyond traditional concerns regarding the protection of young people. An overly scholarly view of learning continues to prevail in our society, which seems to marginalize the knowledge that young people develop with and through media and digital platforms. Based on questionnaires, workshops, and interviews conducted with Portuguese teenagers, aged 12 to 16 years old (N=78), attending an urban and a rural school in the North of the country, this paper aims to understand how these teens are learning to use the media, what motivates them, and if their media practices contribute to the acquisition of skills and competencies useful to their lives inside and outside school. The research main results confirm the existence of a gap between formal and informal education. Informal education is mainly motivated by their needs and peer influence. Colleagues and family, alongside the Internet and self-discovery, appear as important sources of knowledge. Another important conclusion is that informal learning strategies contribute to the development of skills and competencies that are useful from a school viewpoint. La disonancia entre lo que aprenden los jóvenes en clase y en su vida cotidiana no es un fenómeno reciente, pero es cada vez más relevante, ya que la escuela no es capaz, evidentemente, de acompañar la evolución. En nuestra sociedad, sigue prevaleciendo una visión demasiado escolarizada del aprendizaje, que parece marginalizar los conocimientos que los jóvenes desarrollan con y a través de los medios y de las plataformas digitales. Basado en cuestionarios, entrevistas y talleres realizados con jóvenes portugueses entre los 12 y los 16 años (N=78), de una escuela urbana y otra rural del norte del país, este artículo pretende comprender cómo están estos jóvenes aprendiendo a usar los medios, lo que les motiva y si lo que hacen con ellos contribuye a la adquisición de capacidades y competencias útiles para sus vidas dentro y fuera de la escuela. Los principales resultados de la investigación confirman la existencia de un foso entre la educación formal e informal. La educación informal es sobretodo motivada por sus necesidades y por la influencia de sus pares. Los compañeros y la familia, junto con Internet y con lo que descubren por ellos mismos, aparecen como importantes fuentes de conocimiento. También se concluyó que las estrategias informales de aprendizaje contribuyen al desarrollo de capacidades y competencias útiles desde un punto de vista escolar.

Government Public Relations could serve as a means or channel of government agencies in running relationship with the press, including the Local Government of Bengkulu province. This study aimed to see at how public relations play this role. The method used in this research was descriptive qualitative method in which the data collection was conducted by semi- structured interviews to research subjects. It’s possible for researchers to develop questions appropriate to the situation and condition so it was possible to get complete data. From the research, the role of PR in the Bengkulu Provincial Government ran good relationship with the press. The good role of the public relations could be demonstrated by the implementation of most of the series of activities such as: building and maintaining a good relationship with the press, served and understood the media, press interviews, broadcast rebuttal, filling out the important public section in the press, and documentation.Keywords : Public Relation Role, Mass Media Relation

Social media has become a new way for people to communicate with others. Social media is media on the internet that allows users to present themselves, work together, share, communicate with other users form social bonds virtually, and express themselves. Their identity is built by offline and online interaction. This condition makes its uniqueness when someone behaves in communicating and expressing themselves on social media. This study aims to describe internet-based behavior on digital natives, especially in posting content on social media. This research used a descriptive qualitative method, through structured interviews with 84 students aged 18-23 years, male and female gender. The data obtained analyzed by coding. The results show that the media gives satisfaction and makes them survive to use it actively and provides the availability of information, entertainment, and connection with their social life. Feelings of insecurity in using social media are closely related to the social consequences that will get and manifested through restrictions on access is allowed to view account content. The purpose of posting is different, but many illustrate needed for self-expression and desire to provide social influence in the form of direct feedback or the delivery of their thoughts to fellow users.

The study examined online advertising in Nigeria; it also sought to ascertain an examination of approaches in Facebook and Instagram. The aim of the research is to analyse the extent Nigerian businesses are utilizing social media to advertise their products. The theory adopted to anchor the study is Diffusion of Innovation Theory. Mixed methodology was employed to generate data for the study. Survey designed was used for the quantitative method while semi-structured interviews were conducted for the qualitative method. Online questionnaires were employed to get data from 375 Internet-users; representing consumers of these online advertisements, while 6 business owners making use of online advertising through social media, were interviewed under the qualitative method. The results of the study show that Nigerians make use of social media sites like Facebook and Instagram as advertising platforms to a little extent despite the huge number of consumers using these networks in the country. The research recommends that business owners should change their perception about social media as just a platform for fun or social activities, but to start considering it as an avenue to marketing and profit making. Also, the work recommends Nigerian businesses to engage the media professionals to handle their online activities; taking into the account that social media is so powerful it can build or destroy any business or brand. The work further recommends more effort put into the Consumer Protection Council with regards to online advertising activities. This will aid to online consumers protection and also to a large extent curb the cyber fraud.

The harmonious existence of the individual in the modern informational era, which is overly saturated with rapidly developing media technologies, is almost impossible without the developed readiness of the individual for lifelong continuous self-education. The formation and development of this readiness can begin during the formal training at the stage of higher education of the person and continue during informal education throughout his future life. Stages of socialization and professionalization of the person have a great influence on the level nature of this readiness. Based on scientific achievements in the field of self-education of university students, national and world media education, we developed dynamic and competence models of media educational concept of developing a person’s readiness for lifelong self-education. The concept demonstrates interconnection of these two models, as well as consistency with the previously developed normative model of developing this readiness.

Education is a mandatory thing that must be obtained for every child. However, not all children are able to get education due to several factors, one of which is the economic condition of the family which causes them to drop out of school. Guidance for neglected drop-out teenagers is an action that is taken to overcome one of the social problems, which is neglected teenagers who have dropped out of school with the purpose of directing their personality, abilities and skills through non-formal education. This research was conducted at UPTD PSBR Raden Intan Lampung. The purpose of this research is to describe and analyze how the models and coaching programs are carried out to overcome neglected dropout teenagers.The method used in this research is descriptive with a qualitative approach with the use of data collection techniques, such as: structured interviews, documentation and observation. The data analysis technique used in this study was data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions, and for data validity techniques are the extension of observations and triangulation. Based on the research results, it shows that the model that is used as a reference in the implementation of coaching activities for neglected dropouts teenagers is the Youth Development Program (YDP) Model which has 3 approaches, that are: Institutional Based, Family Based and Community. The conclusion of this research is based on the analysis, namely the Youth Development Program (YDP) Model which is the reference applied through 4 programs by the UPTD PSBR Raden Intan Lampung, that are Social Rehabilitation Program, Social Security Program, Social Empowerment Program and the last Social Protection Program with the hope that this effort can solve the problem of neglected dropouts teenagers, especially in Lampung Province.

Objek penelitian ini adalah The Daily Mail, salahsatu tabloid harian terbesar di Inggris. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalahmetode kualitatif, analisis deskriptif. Penulis menggunakan teori analisis wacana kritisFairclough (1995), disertai dengan beberapa teori pendukung lainnya, seperti teori klausasebagai representasi Halliday (2004), teori konspirasi Feaster (2008), Birchall (2006),Barkun (2003), Hodapp dan von Kannun (2008). The object of this thesis isThe Daily Mail, one of the widest national daily newspapers in England. The method that isused in this thesis is a qualitative method, a descriptive analytic method. The writer uses thecritical discourse analysis theory of Fairclough (1995) and some other supported theories,such as clause as representation theory by Halliday (2004), the conspiracy theory by Feaster(2008), Birchall (2006), Barkun (2003), Hodapp and von Kannun (2008). The result of thisresearch shows that the representation in textual dimension that appear on Princess Diana’sdeath is derived from material process, mental process, relational process, verbal process, andexistential process. While The Daily Mail’s perspective on Princess Diana’s death is derivedfrom situational level, institutional level and social level of sociocultural practice dimension.Keywords: Transitivity, Critical Discourse Analysis, Media Conspiracy.
