Objective: this study aimed to investigate the main therapeutic options for denture stomatitis in patients using complete removable prostheses, to determine the best treatment method, avoiding relapses and improving patients' quality of life. Material and Methods: a search was made in the databases and electronic search tools PubMed, LILACS, SciELO and Web of Science using keywords, in Portuguese and English, such as denture stomatitis, Candida albicans, antifungal, oral candidiasis, and treatment. Results: studies have shown that the main drugs used in the treatment of denture stomatitis are miconazole, fluconazole, itraconazole, nystatin, amphotericin B, ketoconazole, clotrimazole and chlorhexidine. Regardless of the treatment employed, there is an improvement in the disease’s clinical symptoms, but it does not prevent recolonization of the oral mucosa in patients with poor hygiene of the dental prosthesis. Conclusion: it is not possible to determine the best therapy for denture stomatitis, since the studies evaluated showed drug efficacy, but with relapses, especially in patients with poor hygiene of the dental prosthesis.

Background. Sciatica is one of the most frequently reported complaints; it affects quality of life and reduces social and economic efficacy. Clinical studies on the efficacy of acupuncture therapy in sciatica are increasing, while systematic reviews assessing the efficacy of acupuncture therapy are still lacking.Objective. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of acupuncture therapy for sciatica.Methods. Comprehensive searches of 8 databases were conducted up until April 2015. Outcomes included effectiveness (proportion of patients who improved totally or partly in clinical symptoms), pain intensity, and pain threshold. Effect sizes were presented as risk ratio (RR) and mean difference (MD). Pooled effect sizes were calculated by fixed effects or random effects model.Results. A total of 12 studies (involving 1842 participants) were included. Results showed that acupuncture was more effective than conventional Western medicine (CWM) in outcomes effectiveness (RR 1.21, 95% CI: 1.16–1.25), pain intensity (MD −1.25, 95% CI: −1.63 to −0.86), and pain threshold (MD: 1.08, 95% CI: 0.98–1.17). Subgroup and sensitivity analysis found that the results did not change in different treatment method and drug categories substantially. The reported adverse effects were acceptable.Conclusions. Acupuncture may be effective in treating the pain associated with sciatica.

In view of the limitations of antifungal agents used in the treatment of oral candidiasis and the wide variety of natural products that have been studied as treatment of this disease, this systematic literature review proposed to evaluate whether scientific evidence attesting to the efficacy of natural products in the treatment of this disease exists. A systematic search in PubMed, MEDLINE, SciELO, Lilacs, and Cochrane Library databases was accomplished using the associations among the keywords Candida albicans, phytotherapy, biological products, denture stomatitis, and oral candidiasis in both English and Portuguese. Four independent observers evaluated the methodological quality of the resulting articles. Three studies were included for detailed analysis and evaluated according to the analysis protocol based on the CONSORT (Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials) 2010 statement. The tested products were different in all studies. Two studies mentioned random samples, but no study described the sample allocation. No study mentioned sample calculations, a prior pilot study, or examiner calibration, and only one trial reported sample losses. Differences between the tested products and the methodological designs among these studies did not allow the existence of scientific evidence related to the effectiveness of these products for the proposed subjects to be confirmed.

Objective. To study the effectiveness of the combined method, including the course of colladizine diadynamophoresis 1000 KE (collagenase units) in combination with injection carboxytherapy in the correction of complications that occurred when superficial administration of polylactic acid into the skin. Material and methods. Under observation were 38 women of 32 to 39 years old with a complication after the introduction of a filler based on polylactic acid with localization in the abdomen. Three groups were identified that received a course of carboxytherapy, a course of collagenase diadynamophoresis, and their combination. Results. The use of the combined course of Collizin diadynamophoresis with injection carboxytherapy provides a pronounced analgesic effect, improves microcirculation, stabilizes the psycho-emotional state and gives a pronounced effect of reducing the thickness of the dermis and increasing the density coefficient of the dermis, which is probably associated with a decrease in intradermal edema, which occurs as a reaction to superficially introduced filler. In addition, this combined technique significantly accelerates the biodegradation of the surface-injected filler and affects pathological fibrosis around polylactic acid. Conclusions. The combined use of collizine diadynamophoresis and injection carboxytherapy locally on the lesion sites with complications such as surface administration of a filler based on polylactic acid is a highly effective treatment method, which is confirmed by the relief of clinical symptoms and an increase in the quality of life of patients.

Background. In order to correct involutive changes in the skin or aesthetic defects, fillers based on stabilized hyaluronic acid, which are used to fill in various wrinkles and creases, have recently become most popular. It is the procedure of contouring that is one of the three most popular cosmetic procedures. Objective:to study the effectiveness of a combined method that includes a course of longidase diadinamophoresis and injectable carboxytherapy in correcting complications of contouring the nasolacrimal sulcus area with fillers based on stabilized hyaluronic acid. Methods. There were 29 women under observation, average age 36.4 4.4 years with complications after the introduction of a filler based on stabilized hyaluronic acid with localization in the nasolacrimal sulcus. There were 3 groups of patients who received a course of longidase diadinamophoresis (3000 IU), a course of carboxytherapy, or a combination of them. Results. The use of a combined course of longidase diadinamophoresis (3000 IU) and carboxytherapy has a significant effect, reducing the clinical manifestations in the form of contouring and compaction, local edema and neuropathy, and stabilizing the psychoemotional state of patients. In addition, the treatment complex significantly accelerates the biodegradation of the filler and has a restructuring effect on the skin of the nasolacrimal furrow-reduces the thickness of the dermis and increases the dermis density coefficient, which is probably due to the regression of intra-dermal edema that occurs as a reaction to a superficially introduced filler based on stabilized hyaluronic acid. Conclusion. The combined use of the method, which includes a course of longidase diadinamophoresis and injectable carboxytherapy for the correction of complications of nasolacrimal sulcus contouring with fillers based on stabilized hyaluronic acid in the form of local edema, neuropathy and filler contouring, is a highly effective treatment method, which is confirmed by the relief of clinical symptoms, acceleration of drug biodegradation and improvement of the quality of life of patients.

Recent advances made in the reuse of pulp and paper industry sludges in hardboard production are explained. Data obtained from pilot and full-scale plants using primary sludge of a pulp and paper industry as an additive in the production of hardboard is presented. An economic analysis of the reuse of pulp and paper primary sludge in hardboard manufacturing is given. The quality of the hardboard produced is tested and compared with the qualities of the hardboard produced by the same plant before the addition of primary sludge. The hardboard with primary sludge additive has been used in Turkey for about a year in the manufacturing of office and home furniture. The results are very satisfactory when the primary sludge is used at 1/4 ratio.

BACKGROUND Immersive virtual reality (VR) games are increasingly becoming part of everyday life. Several studies support immersive VR technology as a treatment method for mental health problems. There is however minimal research into the feasibility, prevalence, and quality of commercially available VR games on commercial platforms as tools for treatment or add on to treatment of mental health problems. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to explore the prevalence, feasibility and quality of commercially available games related to psychotherapy on a commercially available platform. METHODS We performed a search for keywords related to diagnosis and treatment strategies of mental health problems. The search was performed during March 27th on STEAM (VR content and gaming platform). A usability scale was used as a tool to look at the interaction and usability of the games, the VR-UI-UX-8. The tool contains 8 statements about usability scored 0-10, 0 indicating “Not at all” and 10 indicating “very much so”. The score ranges from 0-80 with a higher score indicating worse usability. RESULTS In total, 516 hits were found, 371 unique games. After the games were reviewed, 83 games passed the inclusion criteria, were purchased and played. Majority of the games which were excluded were either not connected to mental health, contained violence, adult content or were in other ways irrelevant or inappropriate. The mean score for the games on the VR-UI-UX-8 was 16.5 (standard deviation 15.8) with a range from 0-68. Most relevant and feasible games were found in the search words meditation, mindfulness, and LSD. CONCLUSIONS Commercial platforms hold great potential for VR games with psychotherapeutic components. The platforms are only at the beginning of the development towards serious games, e-learning and psychotherapeutic treatments. Currently the quality and usability for clinical and at home applicability are scarce, but hold great potential.
