Relevance. Traditional treatment of septic wounds of soft tissues often leads to the development of complications, causing more than 30% of deaths after surgery. The oxidative and bacterial components have a key role in the pathogenesis of septic processes. The aim of the study was to develop a method of treatment of septic wounds, based on a combination of jet technologies, oxygenation and sorption therapy, and also to study the effectiveness of its use. Materials and methods. Studies were conducted on 120 white Wistar rats with septic wounds of soft tissue. There were 4 groups: 3 control and 1 experimental. There was no treatment in the 1st control group. Bandages and treatment of the wound with oxygen flow were performed in the 2nd control group. In the 3rd control group, bandages were performed, and the sorbent was applied to the wound surface. In the experimental group, in addition to dressings, jet oxygen-sorption treatment of the wound surface was carried out. The study of the effectiveness of the method was carried out using objective, histological, histochemical, bacteriological and statistical methods. Result. During the jet oxygen-sorption treatment of the wound surface, the disappearance of hyperemia was noted by 23.1%, the end of necrolysis - by 25.7%, the appearance of granulation - by 24.3%, wound epithelization - by 17.0% faster, compared with the data of the 1st control group. Conclusion. Use of the method the jet oxygen-sorption treatment for the treatment of septic wounds of soft tissues reduced the wound area by 1 day by 4.8%, 3 day by 6.7%, to 7-days 19.1% and to 10-day 43.9% compared to the 3rd control group.

Background. The number of patients with soft tissue wounds does not tend to decrease, which is largely due to the growth of patients with injuries, ulcerative defects, skin tumors, comorbid pathology, including diabetes mellitus, antibiotic-resistant strains and other causes. New methods of local treatment of wounds based on the application of the latest achievements of science are constantly being introduced into the work of surgical departments. High efficiency is demonstrated by the use of sorbents and oxygen, which enhance the reparative processes in wounds. The aim of the study was to study in experimental conditions the effectiveness of the method of surgical treatment of soft tissue wounds, based on the use of jet oxygen sorption treatment (SCS).Materials and methods. The study was performed on 150 white Wistar rats in 5 groups of animals. In the 1st control group treatment was not carried out. In the 2nd and 3rd control groups, the wound surface was treated with a jet of air and oxygen, respectively; in the 4th control group, sorbent was applied to the wound surface. In the 1st experimental group conducted scso wound surface. The study of the effectiveness of SCS was carried out using objective, planimetric, histological and histochemical research methods. Results. The use of sorbent (4th control group) and the method of jet oxygen sorption treatment (1st main group) led to the most pronounced positive changes-acceleration of relief of the studied symptoms by 1.1-1.3 times and 1.2 1.5 times, respectively, compared with the data obtained in the 1st control group. Treatment of wounds with oxygen jet (3rd control group) had practically no advantages in comparison with treatment with air jet (2nd control group).Conclusion. Indirectly, the highest activity of reparative processes during the observation period in the 4th control and 1st main groups was confirmed by the average optical density of RNA and SH-groups, and their desire to normalize to 10 days could indicate the completion of processes of stratification in the wound area. In total, the average area of wounds was minimal in the 1st experimental group, where this figure was by the 3rd and 10th days-74.0% and 99.5% compared to the baseline data.

Purpose of the study. To conduct a clinical trial of the local treatment efficacy of skin and soft tissue inflammatory processes combination with sodium carboxymethylcellulose, immobilized miramistin and metronidazole.Patients and methods. The study involved patients with purulent-inflammatory skin processes, divided into two groups – control and experimental – 30 in each. The most common nosological form were abscesses of various localization. In the control group, local treatment was carried out with dioxomethyltetrahydropyrimidine ointment with chloramphenicol, and in the experimental group – with a combination of sodium carboxymethylcellulose with miramistin and metronidazole. We studied the local temperature, wound pH, wound planimetry, the appearance of wounds, the species composition of infectious agents in the discharge from the wound, a general blood test (with the determination of leukocyte indices), blood biochemical parameters, and the number of bed-days in the hospital. The data obtained were processed statistically.Results. The percentage of reduction in the area and volume of wounds in the experimental group was significantly higher than in the control. The maximum rate of wound healing in the experimental group was noted on days 1-3 and amounted to 9.7 (6.3; 15.5) % / day, and in the control group – 5.6 (2.9; 7.7). Starting from the 5th day of treatment, the local temperature indices in the experimental group were significantly lower than in the control group, and the pH values of the wounds in the experimental group tended to neutral values from the 5th day of treatment, and in the control group there was an increase in pH. Most often, S. epidermidis and S. aureus were inoculated from the wound discharge (in total, more than 50 % of observations); in the control group, pathogenic microorganisms were inoculated 1.6 times more often than in the experimental group.Conclusion. Patients in the experimental group were hospitalized for 2.5 days less than patients in the control group. It is possible to recommend further study and application of the combination of miramistin and metronidazole immobilized on the sodium salt of carboxymethylcellulose in the treatment of wounds.

AbstractObjectivesObjective of the study is to investigate whether Soft tissue mobilization (STM) can assist with static stretching to improve hamstring flexibly.MethodsThe design of the study was repeated measure design. The study was conducted at the physical therapy laboratory of Jamia Hamdard University, New Delhi. Participants included 78 healthy males with hamstring tightness, randomly assigned to either the control group (static stretching) or the experimental group (STM and static stretching). The experimental group received five sets of four different STM techniques, followed by two sets of 30-s static stretches 3 days per week over the course of 12 weeks. The control group received 5 min of sham ultrasound with an inactive probe prior to static stretching. Active knee extension test (AKE) was the outcome measure.ResultsBoth groups showed significant improvement in AKE compared with the baseline measurements. With ingroup analysis showed a significant difference in AKE across all measured time periods (weeks 4, 8, and 12) with pre-test in both groups (p<0.05). No significant difference in AKE improvement was found between groups (p>0.05).ConclusionThe results of this study show that STM prior to static stretching does not significantly improve hamstring flexibility among healthy individuals. Although this study cannot be generalized, the results may be useful for evidence-based practice in the management of hamstring tightness.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the bone healing of mandibular fractures following the use of Portland cement. METHODS: Thirty-two male Wistar rats were divided into control and experimental groups. In the control group the rats were submitted to a mandibular fracture, which was reduced, and the soft tissues were sutured. In the experimental group the rats had the mandibular fracture reduced and maintained with the Portland cement. The animals were euthanized 7 and 21 days after surgery by injecting a lethal dose of anesthetic. The following variables were studied: weight of the animals, radiographic images, histopathological features and time of surgery. RESULTS: A weight loss was observed in the specimens of both groups at the different times of evaluation, a greater difference in weight before and after surgery being found in the experimental group, which was statistically significant (p <0.05, p = 0.041). From the histological point of view, with a margin of error (5.0%) the only two significant differences (p <0.05) recorded in the variables were "Material deployed" and "Bone resorption" during the evaluations at 7 and 21 days, respectively. CONCLUSION: The Portland cement served to promote bone healing.

Relevance. Purulent complications occur in 35-45% of patients with surgical diseases, lethality rate from these conditions achieves 25%. The purpose of the study. To investigate the wound process while treating the purulent wounds with immobilized forms of miramistin and benzalkonium chloride in gel of sodium salt of carboxymetylcellulose. Materials and methods. There were analysed results of experimental study of the wound process on 108 male Wistar rats. Experimental animals were divided into 3 groups, each group included 36 rats. In a comparison group ‘Levomekol’ ointment was used for treatment. In the first experimental group treatment was done by the ointment with the following composition: 0,01% solution of miramistin — 100 g, metronidazol –1,0 g, sodium salt of carboxymetylcellulose — 4,0 g, while in the second experimental group ointment composition included benzalkonium chloride 0,02 g, metronidazol — 1,0 g, sodium salt of carboxymetylcellulose — 4,0 g, purified water — up to 100,0 g. The wound process was evaluated by planimetric, microbiological and histological methods of investigation. Results and its discussion. The reduction of wound area in the first experimental group was higher than in a comparison group on the 3rd day of the experiment by 9,7%, on the 5th day — by 7,6%, on the 10th and 15th days — by 10,5%, while in the second experimental group the change was 37,2%, 27,3%, 13,8% and 6,9% respectively. In the first experimental group microbial contamination of the wound was less than in a comparison group by 5,8х106, on the 5th day — by 3,1х105, on the 10th day — by 6,1х104, while in the second experimental group on the 3rd day there were no differences, on the 5th day — by 6,3х105, on the 10th day — 1,1х104. Histological investigations of the wound biopsies on the 10th day of experiment showed that in a comparison group the bottom of the wound was covered by granulation tissue without signs of epithelization, there was full coverage of the wound with a newly formed epithelium in experimental groups. Conclusions. The use of prolonged quaternary ammonium antiseptics in treatment of purulent wounds is pathogenetically justified and efficient.

The wound healing process of the soft tissue aims to accelerate the closing of the wound by recurring, restoring the function, and minimizing the scar tissue. This process has to occur in the surgery process to obtain better-wound healing. The aim of this study was to know the stimulation effect of the wound dressing to accelerate the wound healing process of the soft tissue using Collagen (amino acid) and Amnion (proteinase inhibitors). This true experimental study was done to 36 mice (Sprague Dawley) that were divided into three different groups, two groups were the treatment groups and one group was the control group. Each group was adapted in Pathology Laboratory of Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Bogor Agricultural University. All of the mice were injured on the skin by incising the right side of the back for 2 cm in length and 4 mm in depth and then cleaned with 0.9% NaCl solution. To the first group of treatment, the wound was applicated by Amnion, and the second group was applicated by Collagen. Each 4 mice of all group were a termination by ether and encryption on the wounded tissue was conducted on day 3rd, 7th, and 14th. Assessment for a number of fibroblast and collagen synthesis on the wound of back tissue was conducted with the histological examination by painted using hematoxylin-eosin. The results concluded that Collagen application was influencing the mean of fibroblast higher than Amnion, and the lowest was controlled with statistically significant. The mean of collagen used Collagen lower than Amnion, and the lowest was control with statistically significant. It could be concluded that collagen application was preeminent in increasing the productivity of the fibroblast, as well as in developing forms of the collagen synthesis compared with Amnion and control.

Background and objectives: Bisphosphonates (BPs) are selective inhibitors of osteoclasts, used for the treatment of bone disorders. The objective of this study is to investigate the possible effects of BPs on the tongue’s mucosa. Materials and Methods: Specimens of the tongue of 20 female 12-month old Wistar rats were taken. Ten were used as control group, while in the remaining alendronate (Fosamax, Merck) was administered per os from 13 weeks. Observation of the harvested samples was made by Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). Results: In the experimental group, focal alterations were observed to various extent in all specimens. The basement membrane was intact. Furthermore, an increase at the intercellular space was observed, predominantly at the middle layer, and the desmosomes were disorganized. In the lamina propria focal edema was observed. Conclusions: Investigation on the effect of BPs on the tongue’s mucosa through TEM hasn’t been documented in the past. According to our results, BPs seem to cause mild mucosal lesions on the tongue.

Fluoride naturally occurs in the earth’s crust and ground water and it causes fluorosis when it is consumed in high levels. The fluorosis also affects soft tissues like liver, kidney, heart, brain etc., in addition to skeletal and dental systems. The present study reports the protective effects of selenium against sodium fluoride induced neurotoxic effects. Three months old (around 250 – 280 g weight) wistar rats were randomly categorized into four groups viz. Group I (control) which received normal tap water, Group II (sodium fluoride, NaF) treated with 20 ppm of fluoride through IP, Group III treated with (NaF 20 ppm) + Selenium (5 mgkg-1 body wt./day/rat) and Group IV treated with Selenium (5 mgkg-1 body wt./day/rat) alone. The doses were continued for a period of 15 days and after that they were used for recording behavioral (rota rod, hot plate), anti-oxidant (LPO, SOD, CAT and GSH-Px) and histological (Golgi cox staining) observations. The rats treated with NaF showed the decreased motor coordination, thermal pain response, decreased CAT and SOD activity and increased LPO levels and GSH-Px activity with compared to control group. Moreover, NaF received rats also showed the decreased number of dendrites, synaptic connections and neural networks. These all alterations were reversed on administration of selenium towards fluoride toxicity and the results were significant (p<0.01). The results of selenium alone treated group of rats is comparable to control group. Based on these observed results, the present study evidenced the protective role of selenium against fluoride induced neurotoxicity.

The purpose of this study was to determine whether there is a correlation between induced occlusal trauma and the occurrence of oxidative stress in the hippocampus. Twenty Wistar rats were randomized into three experimental groups and one control group. Animals in the experimental group were cemented modified crowns on molars to induce occlusal trauma in 7, 14 and 30 days. To evaluate the oxidative stress, blood was drawn from the hippocampus at 7, 14 and 30 day intervals. Oxidative stress was evaluated using the following specific tests: determination of plasma malondialdehyde and serum glutathione values. The results of the study demonstrate that malocclusion experienced by raising the vertical dimension in rats resulted in significant reductions in antioxidants and increase level of free radicals.

Abstract Backgroud: The objective of this study is to introduce posteromedial corner release with the knee in the figure-of-four position versus the conventional position for varus knee arthroplasty. Methods : From March 2015 to September 2019, 123 patients (139 knees) with varus knee were randomly and blindly allocated to experimental group (60 patients; 68 knees) and control group (57 patients; 65 knees). Patients in experimental group underwent posteromedial corner release with the knee in the figure-of-four position; and patients in control group with the knee in the conventional position. Time for soft tissue balancing was defined as the time from the start of spacer test to the end of balance test. Length of release was defined as the distance from the osteotomy surface of the tibial plateau to the farthest structures released. The rating system of Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) knee score was used to evaluate the clinical results. Differences were considered statistically significant at p < 0.05. Results: The mean time for soft tissue balancing was 8.4±3.3 minutes and 8.4±3.3 minutes in experimental and control group, respectively ( p <0.05). The mean length of releasing posteromedial corner structures was 35.5±13.4 mm and 27.3±9.7 mm in experimental and control group, respectively ( p <0.05). HSS scores 5 years after surgery were 95.1±16.9 and 94.8±17.2 respectively ( p >0.05). Conclusion: During varus knee arthroplasty, the posteromedial corner can be released more extensively and thoroughly when the knee is placed in the figure-of-four position.
