A bibliographical research has been performed with regard to productions indexed between 2010 and 2015, in three electronic databases, namely, The Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations, Scientific Electronic Library Online (Scielo), and Academic Google. The first section deals with the development of creativity posited by Historical and Cultural Psychology. The manner some authors, mentioned in the bibliography, comprehend the development of creativity and what they consider determining factors of creativity in pedagogical practice is discussed. Examples of creative pedagogical practices are given. Information follows on the quality of appropriations by teachers and their consequences on the possibility of creative practices. Results show that, as a rule, the development of creativity is the result of mere individual effort without any in-depth discussion on the factors that cause its presence or absence and the manner they develop. The author holds that creativity, as a higher psychological function, should be understood as the capacity developed through the appropriation of historically elaborated culture and not as the presence or absence of a set of behavior types linked to a stereotype. Keywords: Creativity. The present study presents a systematic and integrative review and aims to investigate the contributions of research related to the school trajectories of adolescent students/ graduates in/of socio-educational measures in an open environment. The search for scientific productions was carried out based on specific criteria with the platforms: Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (BDTD / IBCT), Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) and Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES). The methodology involved the selection of 105 scientific works that, after reading the abstracts, resulted in six productions that were submitted to a full reading for further integrative analysis. It was found that the school trajectories of these subjects are marked by processes of age-grade lag, repetition and school supply. Despite the negative school marks registered in the adolescents' lives, the school is a form of “protection”, signaling the need for investments in pedagogical practices that recognize the peculiarities of these individuals.

Foreign direct investment (FDI) has become increasingly important for the Brazilian economy: the ratio of FDI inflow to the country's gross domestic product (GDP) increased from a 0.6% average in the 1980's to 2.5% from 2001 to 2010, according to data from UNCTAD. However, there is great inequality in the distribution of this investment among Brazilian federation units. This study aims at investigating the determining factors for the location of foreign direct investment across Brazilian states, based on an econometric study with panel data for the years 1995, 2000 and 2005. The results showed that foreign investment responded positively to consumer market size, quality of labor and transport infrastructure, but negatively to cost of labor and tax burden.

Background: Utilizing the Brazilian Medical Demography analysis and a literature review, we evaluated how women choose to become neurosurgeons in Brazil and around the world, specifically citing the Europe, the USA, India, and Japan. Methods: We utilized the Brazilian Medical Demography prepared by the Federal Council of Medicine and the Regional Council of Medicine of the State of São Paulo (2011, 2013, 2015, and 2018). We also included an evaluation of 20 articles from PubMed, the Scientific Electronic Library Online, and National Health Library databases (e.g., using descriptors “Women in neurosurgery” and “Career”). Results: In Brazil in 2017, women comprised 45.6% of active doctors, but only 8.6% of all neurosurgeons. Of 20 articles identified in the literature, 50% analyzed the factors that influenced how women choose neurosurgery, 40% dealt with gender differences, while just 10% included an analysis of what it is like to be a female neurosurgeon in different countries/continents. Conclusion: The participation of women in neurosurgery has increased in recent years despite the persistence of gender inequality and prejudice. More women need to be enabled to become neurosurgeons as their capabilities, manual dexterity, and judgment should be valued to improve the quality of neurosurgical health-care delivery.

Facilitating learning for the students nowadays demands so much from the educators. This makes the role of higher education institutions (HEIs) more challenging as they look upon the needs of the present generation. This study sought answer to that need by determining the most preferred pedagogical practices that have impact on the students’ ability to stay motivated and learn effectively. Randomly selected higher education students including bachelor, masters’ and doctorate students were surveyed. Majority of the students belong to the so-called Net Generation. They prefer pedagogical practices that engage multiple channels of learning and on ways of assessing the learning outcomes. They thrive more on relevant, applicable, active learning and project-based tasks while working with their learning partners including faculty and students of shared interests. Results of correlation analysis revealed a significant relationship between students’ demographics, and their preferences for pedagogical practices. Analysis of Variance indicated highly significant difference in the preferences for pedagogical practices across generational groups of students. Higher education is indeed changing and thus requires continuous change and improvement on the part of educators who find comfort in utilizing the twentieth century pedagogical practices. Now that innovations and technological breakthroughs are inevitable, educators must take a stand and set the bar in promoting effective twenty-first century higher education.

The present research paper aims to confront the challenges of improving the quality of academic supervision of postgraduate studies at the Faculty of Education, Damietta University, identifying the theoretical and conceptual framework for academic supervision of educational postgraduate studies. It also analyzes the reality and defines the challenges of academic supervision of educational postgraduate studies. The author adopted the descriptive and analytical method and applied the tool to a sample of (30) faculty members at the Faculty of Education, Damietta University. The study concluded that the heavy load of the supervisor, the tendency of the student to choose a supervisor in a certain position, and keenness of the student to carry out the study quickly without considering quality, and poor research skills among students are the most significant challenges of improving the quality of academic supervision. The study recommended abiding by the regulations of postgraduate studies that allow supervising several theses and dissertations to enable supervisors to follow up postgraduate students honestly and objectively. It also recommended the need to respect the desire of the student when choosing a supervisor.

Purpose This paper aims to argue that substantive changes are required in both curricula and pedagogical practice in higher education institutions to challenge dominant epistemologies and discourses and to unsettle current ways of thinking about, and acting in relation to, the environment. Central to such a shift, it is argued, is the need for higher education curricula to be interdisciplinary and for pedagogical practices to work to build capacities in students for critical and reflective thinking. Design/methodology/approach In this paper, a case study of our reflections is offered on a subject designed to promote capacities in students for critical and reflective thinking via an interdisciplinary approach. The paper uses data from student reflective essays and student course evaluations to make an argument for the success of this approach. Findings Genuine transformative learning can occur within a constructivist informed pedagogical approach to teaching for sustainability. Research limitations/implications Research implications are that genuine transformation can occur in students’ thinking processes (which the paper argues is critical for effective education in sustainability) with appropriately designed courses in higher education. Practical implications More effective environmental actors and thinkers, who can critically engage with the complexity of environmental problems. Social implications Social implications include a more effective and socially just higher education for sustainability Originality/value The authors know of no other narrative that addresses attempts to educate for sustainability using this approach.
