Background: Onion is an economically important bulbous vegetable crop widely cultivated in India. Onion produced in West Bengal can only partially meet up its domestic need and thus extremely depends upon supply from other Indian States during lean period. Bringing more area under cultivation with improved varieties can boost the production and productivity of onion in West Bengal. The present situation leads to explore the scope of onion cultivation in non-traditional area. The objective of the study was to know the production and storage performance of onion varieties under Coastal Saline Zone of West Bengal, with the greater aim to explore this non-traditional onion growing area in future. Methods: Sixteen short day onion varieties were evaluated in Rabi 2014-15 and 2015-16 in Ramkrishna Ashram KVK, Nimpith following Randomized Block Design with three replications. Eight field parameters, three laboratory parameters and four storage parameters were studied. Result: Enough variation was noticed for different growth, yield, quality and storage attributes among the onion cultivars. The bulb yield, bulb weight, bulb equatorial and polar diameter was ranged from 62.8 to 124.5q/ha, 38.9 to 78.5 g, 32.5 to 47.6 cm and 34.7 to 47.3 cm respectively. The average TSS and pyruvic acid content was noted 12.7 ºBrix and 11.2 µmol/g respectively. After six month of storage in ambient condition, average PLW, rotting, sprouting and total losses was found 33.6%, 24.8%, 1.3% and 59.7% respectively. Among the varieties, Sukhsagar followed by Arka Niketan registered minimum storage losses of 20% and 35.1% at the end of storage period. Onion variety, Sukhsagar, Agrifound Light Red, Bhima Shakti, NHRDF Red-2, Pusa white Flat and NHRDF Red-3 were identified as top performers.

An experiment was conducted at the research field of the Department of Agricultural Botany, Patuakhali Science and Technology University, Patuakhali under the Agro-ecological zone-13 (AEZ-13) during the period from November 2012 to February 2013. The aim of the study was to identify the most effective irrigation level for obtaining the better growth and higher yield performance of BARI Gom-25 that are suitable to cultivate under  coastal region of Patuakhali, Bangladesh. So, the present study was consists of five irrigations levels including control viz. control or no irrigation (T0), one irrigation at 25 DAS (T1), two irrigations at 25 and 40 DAS (T2), three irrigations at 25, 40 and 55 DAS (T3)  and four irrigations at 25, 40, 55 and 70 DAS (T4). The seeds of BARI Gom-25 were collected from the BARI, Joydebpur, Gazipur on 22 November, 2012. The experiment was laid out in completely randomized block design (RCBD) with four replications and analysis was done by the MSTAT-C package program where means were separated by DMRT at 5% level of probability. Data were recorded on various growth and yield attributing traits. The plot size was 5 m2 (2.5 × 2.0 m) where row to row and seed to seed distances were 20 and 10 cm respectively. Data were collected on various morpho-physiological growth, yield and yield attributing traits. Results obtained from the present study, whole characters of the study were significant at 5% by the moisture (irrigation) levels where three irrigations given at 25, 40 and 55 DAS had most effective than that of other moisture levels and no irrigation. From the results investigation, it was found that the tallest plant (76.86 cm), maximum requiring days to anthesis (61.00 days), maturity (109.0 days) and maximum number of effective tillers (5.00 hill-1),the highest grain growth (3.11g at 36 DAA) and grains (44.00 spike-1) were obtained with three irrigation (T3) levels. Similarly, T3 further showed the greater performance on spike length (17.28 cm), 1000-seed weight (50.16 g), grain (4.16 t ha-1), straw (5.89 t ha-1) and biological yield (10.05 t ha-1) as well as the higher harvest index (41.39%). Investigated above whole characters were produced lower performances under no moisture (irrigation) treatments. These results indicated that irrigation at three times (T3) would be most advantageous irrigation levels for wheat production under the studied non saline ecosystem of coastal region.Progressive Agriculture 29 (2): 99-106, 2018

Setiap perlakuan terdiri atas 20<br />tanaman. Komposisi unsur hara N, P, dan K yang<br />diserap berbeda pada setiap fase pertumbuhan tanaman.<br />Kata kunci : Aksesi, Zingiber officinale, pemupukan, pertumbuhan,<br />produksi</p><p>ABSTRACT<br />Response of five accessions of small white ginger to<br />fertilizers<br />The use of ginger varieties responsive to low fertilization dosages,<br />is expected to increase fertilizer use efficiency and reduce environmental<br />pollution. Research aimed at observing response of five small white ginger<br />accessions of low-dosage fertilization has been conducted in the Cimanggu<br />Experimental Station in from August 2009 through May 2010. Five small<br />white ginger accessions from marginal areas were planted in polybags.<br />The experiment was and arranged using a randomized block design was<br />repeated with 3 times replications. Each treatment consisted of 20 plants.<br />Two treatments were tested factorially, where factor I : 5 small white<br />ginger accessions, namely (1) Ziof 0004, (2) Ziof 0007, (3) Ziof 0008, (4)<br />Ziof 0013, and (5) Ziof 0014, and factor II : 3 fertilization dosages is<br />dosage of fertilizer, namely (a) 50% recommendation dosage (200 kg urea<br />+ 150 kg SP-36 + 150 kg KCl per hectare), (b) 75% recommendation<br />dosage (300 kg urea + 225 kg SP-36 + 225 kg KCl per hectare), and (c)<br />recommendation dosage (400 kg Urea + 300 kg SP-36 + 300 kg KCl per<br />hectare). Each treatment was given 20 t/ha of manure as basal fertilizer.<br />The parameters observed were growth parameters (plant height, number of<br />tillers, stem diameter, and number of leaves), yield and nutrient uptake of<br />N, P, and K at 4 and 9 months after planting (MAP). The results showed<br />that each of the accessions responded differently to the reduction of<br />fertilizer dosages, either in vegetative or generative growth phase of ginger<br />plants. Reduction of fertilizer dosages to 25% did not significantly reduce<br />the yield of ginger, however, fertilizer dosages reduction up to 50% of the<br />recommended dosages led to significant decrease of ginger yield.<br />Compositions of N, P, and K nutrients absorbed by plants were different in<br />every phase of plant growth.<br />Keywords : Accessions, Zingiber officinale, fertilizer, growth, yield</p>

Background: Blackgram [Vigna mungo (L.) Hepper] is one of the most important cultivated legume crops with high nutritive value and agricultural importance. The productivity of blackgram is not adequate to meet the domestic demand of the growing Indian population. Consequently, there is an urgent need for enhancement of productivity through proper agronomic practices. With this background, a research experiment was conducted in a farmer’s field at Pudhupalayam, Coimbatore to investigate the effect of foliar application of PPFM, plant growth regulating compounds and nutrients on growth, yield attributes, yield and economics of irrigated blackgram. Methods: A field experiment was laid out in randomized block design with three replications during 2019 (kharif and rabi) season. The treatments include 100% recommended dose of NPK along with foliar application of diammonium phosphate (DAP), brassinolide (Br), salicylic acid (SA) and pink pigmented facultative methylotrophs (PPFM) with different concentration (1%, 2%, 1 ppm, 2 ppm, 50 ppm, 100 ppm, respectively) in addition to control. PPFM and PGRs were sprayed at 30 and 45 days after the sowing of blackgram. Result: The experiment results of the two seasons study revealed that the application of 100% RDF + PPFM @ 2% recorded higher growth characters viz., plant height (cm), number of branches plant-1, leaf area index and yield attributes viz., number of pods plant-1, number of seeds pod-1, pod weight (g), pod height (cm), 100 seed weight (g) and yield viz., grain yield (kg/ha), straw yield (kg/ha) and harvest index (%). As well as the same treatment recorded higher net return and B:C ratio. Correlation and regression analysis also indicated that the yield attributes had a positive impact on the grain yield with a magnitude of 1.91 and 1.67, respectively. Therefore, application of 100% RDF+2% PPFM spray can be recommended as the best technology to improve the yield and economics of blackgram.

The combination of consumer’s ongoing demand for chia (Salvia hispanica L.) alongside the increased demand for regionally produced food products provided the impetus for this study. Its aim was to test if a regional cultivation of new chia genotypes, which were adapted to day lengths greater than 12 hours, is feasible under Central European conditions. Therefore, three early flowering chia genotypes (Sahi Alba 914, W13.1, G8) were cultivated in a randomized block design at two experimental stations in Southwestern Germany (Ihinger Hof, Eckartsweier) over the course of two years (2015, 2016). Mean yields ranged from 100 to 1290 kg ha−1. Mucilage content ranged from 9.5% to 12.2%, while the crude protein content ranged from 17.2% to 25.0%. Crude oil content fell in the range of 30.9–33.7% and the PUFA:SAT ratio ranged from 4.0 to 9.4, whereas the omega6:omega3 ratio varied from 0.27 to 0.5. As chia seed yields surpassed yield levels obtained by their countries of origin and as quality parameters obtained, were in line with the genotypes cultivated in their countries of origin, it can be assumed that a regional chia production in Southwestern Germany offers great potential, being ecologically and economically profitable.

Abstrack. Therefore, this study was conducted to see the effect of soaking the fish in asam sunti water and its storage at room temperature on the characteristics of the fish. This study uses a randomized block design factorial with 2 factors: soaking time (W), consisting of 3 levels (W1: 30 seconds, W2: 5 minutes, W3: 10 minutes) and storage time (S), consisting of 2 levels ( S1: 0 hours, S2: 2 hours). The results showed pHof asam sunti water is 1.27,  total acid is 49% and lactic acid bacteria has  of  5.1 × 104 CFU / gram and the soaked fish has pH values ranged from 5.22 to 5.65 with the average of 5.43 and soluble protein values ranged from 18.42 to 18.74% with the average 18.74%.The results indicated that the soaking time (W) has effect significantly to the value of soluble protein (P≤0,05) of fish but iteffect not significantly (P 0.05) on pH value of fish, descriptive test the of aroma and texture of the fish. Storage time (S) effect significantly (P≤0,01) to pH value of fish after soaking but it effectnot significantly (P 0.05) to the descriptive test of  aroma and texture of the fish. Interaction withsoaking time and storage (WxS) effect significantly (P≤0,05) to pH value of fish but it effect to not significantly the descriptive test of aroma and texture of the fish.Soaking time the fish in water for 10 minutes sunti can inhibit increasing in the pH of the fish during storage up to 2 hours. The longer soaking time of the fish in the asam sunti water, the higher sunti acid soluble proteins from value.

This study aimed to relate the smallest set of variables that compose the quality of soybean seeds lot under study, as well as to evaluate the influence of four industrial seed treatments and their respective slurry volumes on the physiological potential. The experiment was carried out in a completely randomized block design with 4 replicates and 24 treatments. The chemical treatments were: control (T1), micronutrient + polymer + drying powder (T2), bioregulator + polymer + drying powder (T3) and micronutrient + bioregulator + polymer + drying powder (T4). The seeds were stored for periods of 0, 15, 30, 45, 60 and 90 days and were subsequently evaluated for their physiological potential. In each storage period, the variable germination, first count, accelerated aging, emergence speed index, final emergence in the sand substrate, aerial part length, root length and total seedling length were evaluated. The main components of the standard germination test and first count were the ones that most contributed to explaining the variability of the original data. Increasing the volume of the slurry in the industrial seed treatment reduces the physiological quality of soybean seeds during storage.

The aim of present investigation was the assessment of the several new onion hybrids develop through three- way cross along with their parents for having less problem of weight losses due to sprouting and rotting, and long storage quality at normal room temperature and relative humidity. The design of experimental plot was complete randomized block design (CRBD) with three replications. This study was carried out in the year of 2018-2019 at Division of Vegetable Crops, ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, Hessaraghatta, Bengaluru, India. Thirty hybrids developed by three- way cross, thirteen parental lines and one check have been included for the experiment. Three F1 hybrids used as female lines and ten commercial varieties used as male testers, were taken to develop the hybrids through line x tester design. The bulbs of all these genotypes were kept for four months in normal storage chamber at 25-30°C room temperature with 65-70% relative humidity. The overall losses of per cent bulb weigh was recorded and conclude that the three-way hybrids TWCHO-15 (26.91) were recorded for smallest amount of loss followed by TWCHO-5 (27.02), TWCHO-14 (28.83) and TWCHO-4 (29.98). These hybrids can be suggested for more profit to onion grower by keeping for long shelf-life.
