Contribution of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in global export is becoming significant but still a large number of these are unable to outperform in international market. In this study, we have identified and classified the firm-level controllable determinants of export performance. Based upon a comprehensive and systematic literature study we finally developed a synthesized model which may provide a broader understanding of the export behavior of the SMEs to enhance their export performance. Many information sources have been explored to collect the relevant literature. The determinants found from the literature are classified into firms characteristics, management characteristics, and export marketing strategic capabilities. In this paper, we have proposed a synthesized model for the researchers who are interested to investigate the issue further (i.e. about SMEs export performance determinants).

This paper identifies whether there was a performance difference among micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) led by men and by women in Vietnam during the period 2005–2013 and aims to provide explanations for the differences, if any, in various performance indicators. The paper adopts a quantitative approach using a firm-level panel dataset in the manufacturing sector in 10 provinces/cities in Vietnam in five waves from 2005 to 2013. Fixed effect models are estimated to examine the influence of firm variables and demographic, human capital characteristics of owners/managers on firms’ value added, labor productivity and employment creation. We found that men led MSMEs did not outperform those led by women on average. Although the average value added was lower for female-led firms in the informal sector, the opposite was true in the formal sector where women tend to lead medium-size firms with higher value added and labor productivity. The performance disparity was more envisaged across levels of formality and less clear from a gender perspective. Moreover, while firms owned by businessmen seemed to create more jobs, firms owned by women had a higher share of female employees. No significant difference in business constraints faced by women and by men was found.

The purpose of this study was to analyze: 1) The implementation of the Deed of Establishment of Cooperative manufacture in Rembang. 2) The role of the Notary as the maker of the Deed of Establishment of Cooperative Enterprises. 3) Barriers and solutions in the Deed of Establishment of Cooperative Development in Rembang.The approach method in this research is juridical empirical, data sources used are primary and secondary data obtained through interviews and literature study, performed data analysis by descriptive analytic.Results of the research results can be concluded: 1) Implementation of Creation Deed of Establishment of Cooperative in Rembang which starts with the preparation stage of formation, preparation stage meetings of formation, stage meetings of formation, stage request for approval rights of legal entities cooperatives, and the stage of issuance of the deed pendiiran and 2) As the role of Notary Deed of establishment of cooperative enterprises in Rembang is as maker deed of cooperative efforts. Notaries have the right authority / legal standing in a deed of incorporation of cooperatives. 3). Obstacles and solutions in the Deed of Establishment of Cooperative Development in Rembang of the cooperative is a member of the cooperative awareness level is still low, less managerial capacity, and limited capital resources. Barriers of Notary Public Notary is still much limited knowledge of Notary Deed Official Cooperation (PPAK) and the low interest of the Notary Deed Cooperative (NPAK) in Rembang district were registered for the Legal Entity Administration System Cooperative (SISMINBHKOP). With the state of a society, then the Office of Industry Trade Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises Rembang should seek to build cooperation between the Notary in Rembang with the Agency's own cooperative.Keywords: Deed of Establishment of Cooperative; PPAK; SISMINBHKOP

<p>The number of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) factually increased in recent years due to several factors such as the imbalance between demand and supply for the workplace. According to various literature study, entrepreneurs are related to the individuals' capacity and characteristics in exploiting market opportunities. The previous studies showed that entrepreneurs need to determine individual characteristics for proceeding with other strategies. Therefore, there are particular characteristics related to business activities that need to be possessed by prospective entrepreneurs. This research aims to reveal the entrepreneurship characteristics with a behavioral approach. Data were collected from 5 entrepreneurs in Bangkalan Regency using the purposive sampling technique. The result showed that entrepreneurial behaviors are either active or passive. In addition, the existence of competitors is not considered a threat to independence in developing business ideas.   </p>

<p>Abstract<br />This article aims to determine whether or not the understanding of micro, small and medium enterprises <br />(MSMEs) in Surakarta City, to the application of the regulations stated in Law Number 20 of 2016 on <br />Trademark and Geographical Indication (According to the research in the Department of Cooperatives <br />and UMKM Surakarta) registration of brands and constraints that hinder the implementation of the law <br />to the entrepreneurs of MSMEs. This understanding includes several factors that influence from culture <br />to moral values. This legal research is an empirical or sociological juridical research, which studies the <br />problem directly to the target (in this study the entrepreneur of MSMEs). Techniques of collecting legal <br />materials with questionnaires, interviews, and literature study. Based on the results of this study and <br />discussion, the conclusion of the unequal distribution of the related understanding of Brand rights as <br />regulated in Law Number 20 of 2016 on the entrepreneurs of MSMEs, whether the understanding of the <br />definition of the rights of the brand itself, the benefits, and the procedure of registration. Penelitian hukum ini merupakan penilitian <br />empiris atau yuridis sosiologis, yang mempelajari masalah dengan langsung pada sasarannya (dalam <br />penelitian ini pelaku UMKM). Tekhnik pengumpulan bahan hukumnya dengan kuisioner, wawancara, serta <br />studi pustaka. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dan pembahasan ini dihasilkan simpulan belum meratanya <br />pemahaman terkait Hak merek yang diatur pada Undang-Undang Nomor 20 Tahun 2016 pada para <br />pelaku UMKM, baik pemahaman mengenai pengertian hak merek itu sendiri, manfaat, maaupun prosedur <br />pendaftarannya. Laundry is a process of washing textile materials using water, washing machines, and detergents. Currently Laundry business is one of the sectors of small and medium enterprises which is rapidly developed. Nowadays, lifestyle and level of human mobility needs higher efficiency in washing and ironing clothes clean and tidy it requires expertise. This would not be possible by a busy person in his daily life. To answer this challenge, laundry business becomes the solution. Gajayana Laundry is one of the laundry business which is located at Ahmad Yani street. Currently Gajayana Laundry still apply a system that is still manual in the laundry service process by making a note receipt laundry. Employee in charge of recording information about the laundry received by writing manual or handwriting, in addition to errors due to recording information the number of laundry clothes that resulted in the loss of one of the clothing belonging to the customer, the uniformity of the letter in the laundry archive books that can confused the employees and the difficulties of the spread information to customers such as holiday information, information informing that the customer's laundry has been completed, and information price changes that certainly in the absence of such information may cause a sense of disappointment from the customers. The results of this study can be concluded that the creation of a laundry application using SMS Gateway and apply these applications to help parties Gajayana Laundry in the laundryservice and the dissemination of information. The research method used is descriptive method and data collection technique used in this research are interview, literature study, observation and questionnaire. Making this application using Visual Basic 2010 programming language andMySQL database.

Globalization has been a significant force in the development of the market and economic environments. The micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) need to focus on technological capabilities to face the competition in the globalized market. They have to analyze the market opportunities in the rapidly growing economy as well as emerging markets. The aids of a globalized and digital economy depends to an excessive extent on favourable business environments and healthy competition. The performance of MSMEs depends on accessibility to various strategic resources like abilities, technical know-how, innovativeness, and finance. Thus, it is imperative to consider the factors influencing work conditions firm level, and the strategies formulated at the national level are organized to local business perspectives. This paper examines the global scenario of MSMEs, the impact of globalization, the role of MSMEs in India, the growth perspectives of MSMEs during the pre-and post-globalization period, the critical challenges, and the role of the government in encouraging and developing MSMEs.

- This paper presents findings of a new methodology to attribute national exports to the Local Labour Market Area (LLMA). This methodology allows overcoming limitations due to the use of administrative units, i. e. provinces (NUTS 3), for foreign trade analysis. Methods The methodology is based on several Istat databases (Foreign Trade, Statistic Archive of Active Enterprises and Local Units Archive). In the first part of the work, sources and methodology are described, the second part is devoted to aggregated and macro-sectors results. Results The results show for 2005 that 37.5% of national exports of manufactured goods derived from local systems of small and medium enterprises. The analysis of the exporter enterprises in the 2005-2007 panel, shows that the contribution of these local systems grew slightly from 37.3% in 2005 to 37.5% in 2007. Conclusions The export performance analysis shows different results for Center-North and South LLMA. While the hospitality industry in the Kenyan Coast has adopted Information and Communication Technology (ICT), application of the same is limited to internal operations and control. The industry’s e-business adoption lags behind similar industries such as tours and travel. Earlier research in e-business adoption does not suggest intervention for improvement of Small and Medium Enterprises’ (SMEs) status and lacks focus on any specific industries. The aim of this chapter is to address this gap by analyzing the Kenya Association of Hotelkeepers & Caterers’ (KAHC) e-business readiness using a three-interrelated-level framework; namely, firm level, market and industry, and institutional and regulatory levels. This chapter presents results of an ongoing project that we are currently working on, related to one of the authors’ graduate degree research program that began in 2008. In this research, we adopt a survey approach that is supplemented by case studies of other countries’ implementations from literature. Findings show that the hospitality industry at the Kenyan coast is not ready for e-business adoption and we develop a framework to help facilitate readiness. The findings imply that as a competitive strategy, establishments which have been competitors need to become collaborators; and KAHC and its membership need to adopt e-business to not only remain competitive, but also to survive. The findings are beneficial to KAHC and the Kenyan government in evaluating the status of e-business readiness as well as adoption in similar industries. Other developing countries can also adopt the framework.

This article examines some of the distinctive characteristics of South Korean firms in relation to their research and development (R&D) and export activities affecting the efforts to retain intellectual property rights (IPR). In particular, this study shows how firms of different sizes (small and medium enterprises: SMEs vs. large-scale enterprises: LEs) tend to hold the ownership of IPR differently. To test the heterogeneous effects of the firms’ innovative capacity, this study utilizes the firm level data of 6,138 Korean firms during 2006–2014. In the years 2006–2014, South Korea concluded free trade agreements (FTAs) with numerous economies and accelerated its market competition and integration into the global economy. Our empirical results found that R&D activities of both SMEs and LEs were active during the period; however, SMEs in particular took a great stride in their patenting and innovation activities. Findings of our article also show that the more companies engaged in export activities, the more actively patents grew. Furthermore, the companies in the information and communications technology (ICT) industry are more aggressive in patenting activities.
