Andy Steiner was checking the Internet for late night West Coast baseball game scores early on Saturday morning, August 3rd, 2007, when an email message popped up on his screen. It was a message from a prospective buyer for Classy Delicates, Steiner’s online lingerie retailing business.  Intrigued by the offer, Steiner contacted the prospective buyer who reiterated his intention and talked specific terms for the purchase.  “Isn’t this a coincidence,” remarked Steiner to his wife, Julia.  “We were just talking about the future of our business and here comes this new offer. This is the fourth offer we’ve had.”  “We should consider a sale of the business seriously,” said Julia, “even though you were thinking of upgrading the site to improve traffic.”  “How much time do we have to examine the offers?” asked Julia to her husband.  “The current buyer has made an offer to one other business and he told me that it’s either the other business or us, and not both.  I don’t know if he is bluffing or not, but I think we have a week to decide for all four,” answered Steiner.

The present work has as its theme, the concession policy and the general aspects of the ports. The methodology adopted in the formulation of this work was based on bibliographic research, through consultations with books, magazines, searching for manuals, treaties, articles published on the internet. In this sense, the general objective of this research seeks to present the development of the port system in Brazil. Thus, the specific objectives seek to present the history that surrounds the ports and their emergence, point out the types of existing ports as well as describe the Brazilian port system, address the main issues of the Brazilian port system and, finally, point out the legislative framework for development ports or operations. Finally, we understand the importance of such a theme, leaving the topic open, proposing that in the future a new bibliographic research should be carried out in order to contextualize the themes addressed here. Along with this new bibliographic review, it is suggested the development of a comparative case study between Brazilian ports, showing its importance and value for the Brazilian port economy.

AbstractRecent discussions (especially in the Internet) about the question whether Nietzsche was a Transhumanist or at least a forerunner of the Transhumanist movement have drawn new attention to Nietzsche’s concept of the Overhuman and the relation to the Posthuman. The article is taking a critical stance by turning suggested analogies between education and genetic manipulation of humans into an argument against the latter, by relating self-education to self-overcoming and eternal recurrence of the same (which is excluded by Transhumanists), and by reminding of Nietzsche’s distinction between ‘Overhuman’ and ‘last human’ as two different ways to the future. Linguistic analysis of the epitheta used in speaking of the different ‘types’ in question as well as structural analogies between critical considerations in Michael Sandel and Jürgen Habermas on the one hand, Nietzsche on the other are also evidence that Nietzsche would not have endorsed the technological path to perfection of the human but would emphasize his own way of self-overcoming instead.

This case history takes place at the biggest flower auction of the world, the Aalsmeer Flower Auction. Directors of the Aalsmeer Flower Auction felt that the Internet might play an important role in the future of their business. They believed that an active and leading position in applying electronic networks could secure and even strengthen their dominant position and that a policy of restraint could be a threat if other parties should enter this market with electronic auctions. At the end of the 1990s, they started various e-Business initiatives. The case study describes the different e-Business initiatives and the responses from suppliers, customers, managers and other stakeholders on each of these initiatives. Readers will be challenged to analyze this material and offer advice to the management of the auction about future directions with respect to e-business.

This study investigated the challenges facing undergraduates on the use of library services in Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB). The objectives were to assess the attitude and level of satisfaction of undergraduates as well as the challenges they face on the use of library services. This study adopted the descriptive survey design. The sample of 180 respondents, who were undergradu- ates, was randomly selected from all Colleges of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta. The instrument used to elicit responses from the respondents was a questionnaire designed by the authors while descriptive statistic was employed to analyse the data. Findings of this study revealed that ma- jority of the respondents (55.00%) agreed that there is enough space in the library, 75.00% agreed that there is adequate number of staff in the library, 76.67% agreed that there are spacious shelves to house books, and 85.00% agreed that the library is conducive for learning. On the other hand, majority of the respondents (64.45%) disagreed that the library has current textbooks and 83.89% disagreed that the internet services in the library are accessible. Students«¤?? attitude towards the use of library varied, majority of the respondents (78.33%) agreed that the library is meant for reading or studying and not only during examination period. The major challenges identified by undergraduates in the use of the library services are inadequate up-to-date books in the library and tight academic schedules of students while the minor challenges include poor infrastructural facilities and insufficient space to ac- commodate users. It was recommended that libraries should ensure that adequate orientation and training are given to students on the use of the library services.

The articulation of Islam with the new media, and the Internet in particular, has attracted the interest of many researchers. The Internet’s openness anddemocratic potential may infuse Islamic discourses with a new dynamic or,alternatively, offer a new lease of life to such valued traditions as shura (consultation)and ijtihad (independent thinking). Islam Dot Com belongs to theline of thought that seeks to discover how the Internet has been associatedwith Islam and the extent to which it may be thought to contribute to itsdemocratization by providing a truly public sphere in which interested peoplecan participate. On the other hand, the authors are cognizant of the limitationsof the concept of “public sphere” when applied to Islamic contexts.Part of the book’s remit, therefore, is to examine how the Internet relates to shura, ijtihad, and ijma` (consensus). At the same time, it seeks to relatethese theoretical arguments to an empirical case study consisting of a textualanalysis of three Islamic websites: www.islamonline.net, www.amrkhaled.net, and www.islamway.com. The book’s structure comprises threetheoretical chapters (chapters 1-3), two empirical chapters (chapters 4 and5), and a concluding chapter (chapter 6) ...

Achieving grid parity in 2021 is the goal of China’s photovoltaic development, which is not only on the user side but also on the generation side. Relevant studies indicated that distributed PV has realized grid parity basically in China, while centralized PV, which belongs to the generation side, still has some difficulties in achieving grid parity. Therefore, this paper takes Ningxia Province, which is abundant in solar resources, as the research object and compares LCOE with the traditional coal-fired price to analyze the situation of grid parity of the Pingluo project. It is found that this project cannot reach the goal of grid parity. Then, the future evolution of the local LCOE is analyzed, so as to determine the time of grid parity of Ningxia’s centralized PV power stations. In the calculation of LCOE, the presence and absence of environmental benefits and the general and optimistic forecast of cumulative installed capacity are combined into four scenarios. The results show that the centralized PV in Ningxia cannot achieve grid parity in 2021 under the four scenarios. However, in addition to the scenario that there are no environmental benefits and the cumulative installed capacity is generally forecasted and will reach grid parity of the generation side in 2023, the other three situations can achieve the goal in 2022. Moreover, the LCOE value is the lowest under the scenario of considering environmental benefits and the optimistic forecast of future installed capacity.

This chapter highlights and discusses entrepreneurial opportunities on the Internet. It provides a brief introduction to entrepreneurship, examines the characteristics of entrepreneurs, and talks about cyber entrepreneurs. It includes a case study which demonstrates the opportunities and challenges of cyber entrepreneurship. The case study illustrates the ease of setting up a business on the Internet by the younger generation with little capital and resource requirement. It highlights the fact that an intensive marketing campaign, perseverance, and some technical knowledge are important traits of cyber entrepreneurs. The other issues apparent from the case study are an opportunistic mindset, innovation, and the ability to create value where there was none before.
