Critical thinking is present in the educational intentions in higher education with more or less programmatic development. In the training of social educators, such thinking is considered a fundamental pillar for a good performance of their functions in the social field. By means of qualitative and quantitative instruments, we set ourselves the objective of knowing the opinions of 72 Social Education degree students of the University of Huelva (Spain) about critical thinking, higher education, and their position on the subject. The results obtained showed that students have an approximate general knowledge of what critical thinking is, but a clear lack of knowledge of how it is developed. In addition, it is observed that there is a great contradiction between what they say and what they actually do, as, although they value its development in the degree and professional performance, they do not develop or commit themselves de facto to this competence. Moreover, they recognize that the university is a context that favors critical competence, but at the same time they are very critical about the teachings offered in this regard.

We present our experience teaching the subject ‘Astrobiology 101’ (“Introducción a la Astrobiología”, in Spanish), given in the University of Baja California at Ensenada, Mexico, since 2004 up to the present. The place of Astrobiology in Mexico, as well as the local academic context in Baja California are presented, as we consider that the multidisciplinary academic environment plays an important role in the motivation of our students. We describe the course itself, its materials, and resources. The course was designed based on classical books as well as news, academic papers, and internet sources. After seven editions of the course, we have noted that making practical experiments improves the understanding of concepts, ideas, and also strengths the interaction among students with different majors. This course has received support by means of an educational grant which objective is to compile all the experimental and hands-on activities in two manuals: one for students and the other for the teachers These manuals will be available to all the Spanish-speaker teachers who want to teach the full course or part of it, as well as those only interested in the hands-on activities. Locally, the establishment of the new Astrobiology Laboratory, in the Institute of Astronomy (UNAM, Campus Ensenada), surely will help us to increase the opportunities on research and education for our students, as well as visiting students and teachers.

The current research addresses an important educational and administrative issue. It is the financing of universities and the potential that the university can achieve its goals and strive to develop the society away from any pressures. It may face from private or governmental institutions which may participate in funding them with the aim of implementing the new Saudi universities system. All universities and educational institutions rely on their own resources and diversify new funding resources to alleviate the state budget in order to achieve the independence of these institutions and give them freedom to achieve their goals, and also the strategic goals of the 2030 Vision for Saudi Arabia. In order to achieve the research main objective, a questionnaire is distributed to the respondent to know the current reality of universities on the subject of funding. We find and propose a number of ways for the university to be financially autonomous.

The current debate in Germany on extending the low-wage sector turns primarily on labour market policy considerations. This contribution, on the other hand, focuses on the social and social-policy challenges thrown down by a low-wage strategy. The problem levels and the arenas for social-policy action are discussed, initially considering fundamental issues, but then moving on to look at the approaches to the problem taken by various European countries. The second section focuses on the subsidisation of social security contributions, an approach that has recently been the subject of particularly intense debate in Germany, and is to be tried out in pilot projects at regional level. As is clearly shown by the discussion of two leading concepts taken from the debate in Germany, proposals made under the same 'label' may differ considerably from one another in terms of their premises, their financial resource requirements and their distributive effects.

Although many believe that “mass higher education” increased opportunity and egalitarianism in postwar American society, the reality has been quite different. While a greater proportion of students are enrolled in higher-educational institutions now than at any other point in history, economic inequality is at an all-time high. Postwar American campus novels largely misunderstand this historical development. While the genre represents the university as an institution that combats social inequality by expanding enrollment, these novels simultaneously obscure the social inequality that the university cannot combat and instead helps to legitimate. The symbolic work of American campus novels has thus been to imagine a system that stages social conflicts between the deserving and the elite when in fact the postwar meritocracy has made the two categories functionally indistinguishable.

The need to specify the types and forms of communication between the subjects of the educational process in the university is becoming acute. In the current situation and the challenges to institutions of higher education, among them - requirements for quality of training, a change in the students, the competition of universities, the implementation of the educational process in the new, rapidly changing environment; acquiring new personal current practices underutilized in education. This practice is network communication. The universality of interaction, the multiplicity, the diversity of levels, the extreme complexity of representation, put forward problems becomes important. Today, in the social world, interaction acquires special, new characteristics due to the specifics of the interacting forces. And above all, when the bearer of these forces is the person himself, the social subject acting and projecting his own actions. The research studies consider the technologies of interaction of students at different stages of professional development. Therefore, the problem of involving students in new educational and social practices on the basis of network interaction resources – resources used in everyday life-is becoming more relevant. To build an individual trajectory of professional development in the Samara region, an information and communication system "Student and Trud" is being developed, which will become a resource for networking between students and leading enterprises of the Samara region.
