In the course of history, ecclesiastical life has been imbued by secular beliefs, embodied in human endeavour to get a strong foothold in the Church. Since Emperor Constantine's era, the idea that matured in the ecclesiastical consciousness was that the fundamental principle underlying the organization of ecclesiastical life lay in the domain of law. Nevertheless, in contrast to positive law, canon law is not an expression of the will of an individual or the congregation; instead, it comprises rules deriving from the nature of the Church. The Church, just like any other organism, is governed by two tenets: the static organization, and its dynamic life function. Thus, the responsibility of monks can be perceived either in line with canonic law or within the social context, whereby these tenets are inalienable since there can be no life without organization, nor can there be organization without life. In case a member abandons an organization, regardless of the reasons behind such action (be it voluntary or through the power of law), positive law prescribes that all ties between the said organization and its former member are to be dissolved. On the other hand, in case a penalized monk is obliged to leave the monastery due to the gravity of the pronounced sanction, he is entitled (as a former member) to preserve the status of a Christian. This point derives from the fact that baptism constitutes an indelible fact of spiritual life. This paper examines the subject matter of monks' responsibility for violation of canon law, by comparing the mediaeval and contemporary sources of the Serbian canon law, in view of identifying changes in the said period and drawing the most accurate conclusions.

A cultural institution choosing to mount an exhibit centered on the theme of diversity (or at least to ensure that a reasonable variety of types of objects/creators is presented) faces an inherent contradiction. Namely, while the human experience is infinite, exhibit space is not. Trying to contain the naturally uncontainable obliges an exhibit curator to make choices of materials, manners of display, and item descriptions, which provide a sense of the subject, knowing that inevitably some people and groups will be excluded. Such was our experience at Cushing Memorial Library & Archives with the creation of our 2019 exhibit The Stars Are Ours: Infinite Diversities in Science Fiction and Fantasy. The exhibit is based around the social, ethnic, racial, gender and other diversities of science fiction and fantasy (SF&F) – diversities in creators, in themes, in characters and in plots. Curatorial decisions respected the overarching exhibit theme while also recognizing the physical reality of the space and ensuring an optimal educational experience for patrons. The exhibit is organized thematically rather than by a specific ‘type’ of diversity, because the idea of boxing groups into specifically delineated, ghettoized areas of the exhibit was counterintuitive to the idea of diversity. Most of the exhibit themes were chosen for their broad nature, which allow for a wider range of authors and works to represent them. Items were chosen that we felt could best reflect the diverse nature of the SF&F genres and demonstrate their commonality as documents of the human cultural experience. Exhibit display is also a process involving many factors. In creating exhibit descriptive material, we sought to make subtle rather than overt connections to the overall exhibit theme where possible. The exhibit, in short, is intended as a diversity ‘sampler’ rather than any sort of attempt to try to capture the breadth of the subject. No exhibit with ‘diversity’ as a theme – whether overtly stated or implied – can realistically do more than acknowledge its inability to be a full chronicle. In doing so, exhibit curators actually recognize, in fact, the deep and limitless richness of their chosen subjects.

This article presents a bibliographical review of research carried out within the scope of the Brazilian postgraduate programs that studied the execution of socio-educational measures on girls in the juvenile justice system and that adopted gender studies or feminist approaches as their theoretical perspective. Theses and dissertations that have been produced on the theme were identified and eventual gaps in these works were indicated, thus contributing to new possibilities of research on the subject in the country. We concluded that the studies developed in the scope of the postgraduate programs in addition to other studies on the subject give an overview of the situation of girls in the Brazilian socio-educational system, but that it is still necessary to further analyze modes of punishment that are especially applied to girls and interpret them considering the specificities of the Brazilian social reality, especially regarding the intersection between the social categories gender, race, class and generation.

Performativity in gender identity and domesticviolence: the case of Women in the Center forwomen in TalcahuanoAbstractThe gender category in women who have experienced domestic violencesituations is transformed by a speech shared from individuality, generating possibilities of ruptures and change. In the case of women from the Center for Women, we have a group of subjects known as beneficiaries of a domestic violence program which aims to reduce violence against women, especially that which occurs in the context of relationships, by implementing a psychosocial model that promotes prevention through community service and serves women over the 18 years old who are victims of domestic violence. By a qualitative work generated from the construction of narrative productions, this paper shows how gender is subjectivised and constructed as a double appropriation element with coexisting elements that give continuity through repetition and nomination of gender traditional story (maternity),together with those which promote it and strengthen it as a driver of change, as self-concept and in gender relations. Keywords: Gender identity, narrative productions, subjectivation, performativity. The subject of the research presented in this paper is focused on the assessments of experts in social welfare centres on the consequences, security risks and recovery needs of children witnesses of violence in parental partnerships, which were submitted to the court in the proceedings for protection from domestic violence associated with the proceedings in a marital dispute, in which the court decides on the exercise of parental rights. The aim is to describe the characteristics of professional assessments and opinions and to map the present problems and point out possible improvements, in accordance with the principle of safety/security of victims and the standard of best interests of the child. In processing this complex topic, thematic analysis was used, as a qualitative descriptive technique. The sample consisted of two groups of reports on the findings and opinion of the social welfare centres, in 62 cases completed in 2010/2011, and 15 cases completed in 2019/2020. The legal and by-law changes related to the subject of the research were expected to produce a positive effect on the content and quality of expert assessments in the second, later sample. The conducted analysis indicated an unsystematic approach and the absence of relevant data, which is also present in the reports from the later period. A positive change was observed regarding the assessment of security risks, but it was insufficiently integrated with the proposals for entrusting custody and determining the model of contact between children and the violent parent. Although it is acknowledged in public documents that children are also victims of violence when witnessing it and that the safety of the victim is the organizing general principle of protection from domestic violence, assessment methods are insufficiently operationalized and the understanding of the difference between partner conflict and violence/abuse of the woman is inadequate. Decisions on children?s contact with the violent parent remain inconsistent with protection measures against domestic violence, and when they are not respected, there are no or rare guardianship authorities? proposals to ban contact, even when the consequences for children and their relationship with mothers are obvious. Therefore, it would be important to supplement and refine the guidelines in existing treatment protocols, develop and harmonize specific expert guidance for these assessments, specialize knowledge and increase the experts? capacity and resources, develop specific and available services, in line with relevant standards. An increased number of researches on various aspects of professional practice in this sphere would also be important for progress in the field.

AbstractThis article intends to establish a relationship between drug abuse and family violence from a psychosocial viewpoint, focussing on gender. This point of view affects all social areas, becoming a common issue in other social problems such as drug dependence. Men are often attributed more aggressive and violent roles than women. Gender is a social construction that should disappear in contexts in which it has a discrimination function. Women keep on starting using drugs massively. However, there are differences in attitudes, behaviours and social perception about consumption in men and women. The issue of alcoholism is often approached in a biased way, focussing on gender. Alcohol can be seen as an excuse in men or as an aggravating fact in the victim, thus causing a double victimisation. Therefore, in any attempt of intervention with both concomitant problems, previous judgements about gender should be revised.
