Abstract: This study was designed to examine the view of kyai toward kafâ`ah and its practice in marriage. Qualitative approach has been used to collect intact and whole data from the subject by using the instruments of participatory observation and in-depth interview. It was found that kyai performs a marriage with the close family members and among relatives. They avoid a marriage with a family of different lineage particularly non-kyai family.  From the perspective of this marriage attitude, it could be catagorized two types of kyai. Firstly, is a kyai which is offspring fanatic, and secondly, a kyai which is flexible in giving decision. The former is influenced by two factors---firstly, ancestor will and second, the attempts to keep the family chasity. The later is not adhering strictly to the family genuinity. Kafâ`ah also takes a consideration on other factors such as opulence, the firm religious values, and knowledge proficiency.   Kata-kata Kunci: Kyai, kafâ`ah, Madura, dan perkawinan

The hardship stemming from prison goes well beyond the pain experienced by offenders. The family and dependants of prisoners often experience significant inconvenience and hardship. Family members of prisoners have not engaged in wrongdoing and hence arguably their suffering should be a mitigating consideration in sentencing. However, this approach potentially unfairly advantages offenders with close family connections and undermines the capacity of courts to satisfy a number of important sentencing objectives, including the imposition of proportionate penalties. The courts and legislatures have not been able to find a coherent manner in which to reconcile this tension. There is conflicting case law regarding the circumstances in which family hardship can mitigate the severity of criminal penalties. This article examines these competing positions and proposes that family hardship should mitigate penalty severity only when incarcerating the offender would cause severe financial hardship to his or her dependants.

The popular edible fruit called kola nut that is found all over the Earth is native to the people of West Africa. In Idjerhe (Jesse) culture, the kola nut is part of the people’s traditional religious activities and spirituality. The presentation, breaking, and eating of the kola nut signifies hospitality, friendship, love, mutual trust, manliness, peace, acceptance, happiness, fellowship, and communion with the gods and spirits. These socio-religious values of the kola nut among the Idjerhe people are not well documented, however, and this paper aims to fill the lacuna. It employs participatory observation and oral interviews, supported by a critical review of scholarly literature on the subject. The research posits that churches can use the kola nut as a Eucharistic element that would be meaningful and indigenous to the Idjerhe people.

Background. A variety of factors are related to compliance with medication in schizophrenia, but little attention has been paid to the role of families. Carers' knowledge or expressed emotion (EE) may be related to compliance. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the relevance of these two factors, as well as their relationships with other variables for the prediction of compliance.Method. A sample of patient–carer pairs (N=79) involved in a family intervention for schizophrenia trial was recruited. Compliance, symptoms, social functioning and attitudes to their carers were assessed in patients. Carers' EE, knowledge and psychopathology were also evaluated.Results. A number of factors were related to compliance, including carers' EE and patients' psychotic symptoms, which contributed independently to not taking medication. Carers' knowledge about schizophrenia and other groups of symptoms was not related to compliance.Conclusions. EE may be an important factor to account for in the understanding of patients' compliance and the direction of the relationship between EE and compliance should be the subject of further study.

This article aims to raise awareness of the concept of pet within the context of multispecies families, where we will talk about the recognition of pets as family members, a new typology that has generated many controversies and has been the subject of study since many dimensions. However, this research will be analyzed from the perspectives of plurality and affectivity, due to the active role of the pet within the family that by having specific and distinctive functions generates affinity ties between its members. Accordingly, it is essential to conclude whether or not pets are part of the family, which can be determined by defining the terms of kinship and lineage; since this terminology has a different significance.

Indonesia is predicted to enter the era of bonus demography which is an interesting issue now. This is related to the increasing productive and non-productive population. This phenomenon can benefit the population, both productive and non-productive residents who get less attention, especially economic dependence on nonproductive groups such as the elderly. Elderly are often said to be a burden on society, especially for women who are often associated with domestic work. This study raises the economic independence of elderly women. The method used in this study is a qualitative approach on elderly women in Demuk village, Pucanglaban sub-district, Tulungagung district. Data collection uses participatory observation techniques and in-depth interviews. The results of the study show that elderly women can meet the economic needs of their own family or household. They work in the domestic and public domains such as farmers, laborers, traders, and breeders. Thus elderly women are not burdens, but they become economic support for the family or household.
