The flowers and fruits of various species of the hawthorn genus (Crataegus L.) are widely used in domestic and foreign medical practice as cardiotonic preparations. In our opinion, Crataegus submolls Sarg. is a perspective species for collection of the raw materials. Crataegus submolls Sarg. is successfully cultivated in the Russian Federation and is distinguished by its rapid growth and high yield compared with wild-growing species. Moreover, the fresh fruits of Crataegus submolls Sarg. are used in nutrition. The flowers of Crataegus submollis Sarg. contain flavonoids, among of which, like in the case of Hawthorn blood-red the hyperoside is present. It was determined that the maximum of the absorption curve of the solution of Crataegus submollis Sarg. flowers with a solution of aluminum chloride is 412 nm. The method of quantitative determination by the differential spectrophotometry of the total flavonoids calculated on hyperoside in the Crataegus submollis Sarg. flowers has been developed. It was established that the appropriate extragent for this raw material is 70% ethanol. The level of total flavonoid in Crataegus submollis Sarg. flowers has been studied. It was established that separate parts of Crataegus submollis Sarg. flowers differ markedly in the content of total flavonoids and their specific weight in raw materials. It was established that the content of total flavonoids calculated on hyperoside is varied from 2.05±0.08% tо 3.00±0.12%. It was determined that the content of total flavonoids calculated on hyperoside in different parts of hawthorn flowers ranges from 0.98% (receptacle and calyx) to 4.53% (petals). In our opinion, Crataegus submollis Sarg. flowers are the promising type of medicinal plant raw materials.

Significance. Black Walnut (Juglans nigra L.) is a species of trees of the Walnut family (Juglandaceae). This plant of the genus Walnut (Juglans L.) has not been sufficiently studied unlike other species e.g. Juglans regia L. This medicinal plant raw material is quite perspective, its preparations have antimicrobial, general tonic effect. We can use its leaves, unripe fruit, and the bark. However they are not widely used in medicine. In order to introduce the plants of the Walnut genus to the State Pharmacopoeia of the Russian Federation (RF State Pharmacopoeia), it is necessary to conduct of pharmacognostic studies, to develop product specification file to confirm the identification and quality of medicinal plant raw materials. The aim of this study is to develop a method of quantitative determination of flavonoids in the bark of the black walnut (Juglans nigra L.). Materials and methods. Material of the study was black walnut bark, stocked during the sap flow period (April) in 2018. The bark was skived up to 15 cm long and 23 cm wide. The bark was air-dried with the protection from direct sun light. The end of the drying was checked by the brittleness of the bark. Results. The methods of the quantitative determination of flavonoids in walnut bark has been developed. We used the differential spectrophotometry taking into consideration state standard sample of rutin at the analytical wavelength of 416 nm. The error of a single determination with a confidence level of 95% is 1.20%. Conclusion. We used the developed technique and analyzed a number of samples of black walnut bark. The content of total flavonoids in the plant raw material is 5.13 0.02% (as calculated on rutin). The flavonoid content should be at least 4.0%.

Preparing of the antiviral and antibacterial medicinal plants is a promising task of native pharmacy. In this regard, it is interesting to study species of the genus penny, namely Hedysarum caucasicum M.Bieb., Hedysarum grandiflorum Pall., Hedysarum daghestanicum Rupr. ex. Boiss., the regions of distribution, chemical composition and known pharmacological properties will allow to justify directions of their rational use, as well as creation of new phytopreparations of antiviral action on the basis of medicinal raw materials. During the complex pharmacognostic studies of three species of Hedysarum L. we have developed the method for isolation and quantitative determination of the sum of xanthones in terms of mangiferin by UV spectrophotometry. The technique takes into account the basic physical and chemical properties of xanthones, is characterized by reproducibility, high accuracy, simplicity of implementation, allows to carry out both screening evaluation of various raw objects containing mangiferin derivatives, as well as standardization of the prepared medicinal plant raw material of the penny. The developed methods are tested on the aerian organs of Hedysarum L. species, collected and dried taking into account the rules and requirements of drug raw material procurement. As a result, Hedysarum caucasicum M.Bieb herb (0.624%) was found to be the highest quantitative amount of xanthone sum in terms of mangiferin. The obtained results show the prospect of further research of the aerian part of the Hedysarum caucasicum M.Bieb. as an additional source of mangiferin. The method of quantitative determination of xanthone sum in the list for mangiferin in the above-ground part of Hedysarum caucasicum M.Bieb; Based on the obtained data, it has been found that the proposed technique is highly sensitive, reproducible and usable.

The buds of horse chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum L., Hippocastanaceae family) is a new promising species of medicinal plant raw material. The prospect of studying the buds of this plant is due to the content of flavonoids in them, which have a wide range of pharmacological effects. Flavonoids are interesting for their capillary-strengthening action, which allows them to be used in the treatment of chronic venous insufficiency. This fact is consistent with the practice of using drugs from other organs of horse chestnut (seeds, leaves) as venotonic and angioprotective drugs. In addition, flavonoids are also characterized by antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and antifungal activity. The actuality of the study of horse chestnut buds as a new type of medicinal plant material is also supported by the need to develop of the new effective and safe drugs based on the raw materials of this plant. The aim of this study was to determine the flavonoid composition of the buds of Aesulus hippocastanum. In the course of the work from the buds of horse chestnut by the method of column chromatography on silica gel L 100/160 was for the first time there were isolated and characterized using 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, UV spectroscopy and mass spectrometry the flavonoid compounds rhamnocitrin (7-O-methylkaempferol), and accompanying 7,4′-dimethylkaempferol. The dominant and diagnostic significant flavonoid for the horse chestnut buds is rhamnocitrin. The results indicate the prospects for further study of the buds of the horse chestnut as a new type of medicinal plant raw materials.

Carotenoids are of interest as precursors of vitamin A, which has a wide range of pharmacological effects — antioxidant, immunomodulatory, participating in photoreception, etc. The aim of the research was to develop a technique for the spectrophotometric determination of the A-vitamin activity of carotenoids-rich medicinal plant raw materials (MPRM). The objects of research were the traditional sources of carotenoids — sea buckthorn, carrot, pumpkin and wild rose. A method is proposed for determining the content of individual carotenoids in MPRM by optical density at wavelengths corresponding to the characteristic peaks of α-carotene, β-carotene and lycopene. It has been shown that it is preferable to use isopropyl alcohol as the most effective solvent. Taking into account the content of specific carotenoids makes it possible to determine the A-vitamin activity of the sum of carotenoids extracted from plant materials, and, accordingly, to increase the efficiency of the use of herbal preparations and biologically active additives for health improvement.
