<p>The study buddy is a learning strategy employed in a graduate distance course to promote informal peer reviewing of assignments before submission. This strategy promotes student-student interaction and helps break the social isolation of distance learning. Given the concern by Arum and Roksa (2011) that student-student interaction may be distracting from instead of contributing to academic achievement it was felt important to examine the way peer interaction can contribute to learning in a well-structured collaborative learning activity. This mixed-methods study (n=31) examined both quantitative and qualitative aspects of student perceptions of the study buddy activity. While quantitative findings regarding depth of processing were inconclusive due to the small and homogeneous sample, qualitative analysis showed very high levels of learner support for the activity as well as evidence that the activity encouraged learners to approach their learning with greater depth. 88% of study buddies said they found the activity well worth their time, and would recommend it for other graduate courses. It is thought with greater scaffolding, the quality of buddy feedback might be improved. The few who did not appreciate the activity felt let down by a lack of buddy commitment to the process.</p>

This paper presents the development and application of a new methodology incorporating both quantitative and qualitative profiling to help discern the characteristics of units of study that are the differentiators of student ratings of library resource quality. From the sub-set of those units with an ‘unremarkable’ rating for teaching quality, those units with the ‘extreme’ library resource quality ratings were selected for investigation. Examination of the handbook descriptions for those units suggests that units of study which explicitly incorporate student interaction with the wider literature and other information resources beyond those provided within the unit environment may lead students to engage with the library in deeper ways that highlight the value of library resources, and hence lead to higher mean ratings of library resource quality. This finding suggests potential areas for intervention to enhance student perceptions of the quality of library resources.

This research aims to examines whether using genious-based learning strategy could increase learning activity in the subject of civic education for students in the eleventh grade department of electro in SMK 1 of Lhoknga in 2013/2014 school year. The action research has two cycles in which each cycle consists of four stages such as planning, implementing and observation, reflecting and revising. The subject of the research is 17 students  in the eleventh grade department of electro in SMK 1 of Lhoknga, Aceh Besar Regency, Province of Aceh. The data have been collected are test result and observation sheet of learning activity. Based on the result could be concluded that genious-based learning strategy can be used as s strategy to increase student’s learning activity, learning outcomes, and increase the quality of learning processes held by teacher in which learning activity, learning outcome, and teacher’s ability, might be elvate in every cycle. The learning activity increased from 64.71 percent at the first cycle (category sufficient) became 72.9 percent with good category at the second cycle. While the teacher’s ability in the teaching-learning processes increased from 62.5 percent with sufficient category at te first cycle to 72.9 percent with good category at the second cycle. As the learning oucome increased from 64.71 pecent with category passed at the first cycle to 82.35 percent with category passed at the second cycle.

The e-learning method has emerged over the years along with the development of information technology. One of the advantages of this method is not depending on space and time of lecture. The course of clinical chemistry and bioanalysis consisting of lectures and practical courses has time and place limitations for practical and discussion between lecturers and students, therefore learning method innovation is needed. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the hybrid e-learning method using eLisa on student, as well as understanding and evaluating student perceptions and acceptance of the hybrid e-learning method in clinical chemistry and bioanalysis courses. The platform for the the hybrid e-learning method is eLisa (elisa.ugm.ac.id), developed by the Center for Innovation and Academic Studies (PIKA) UGM. A total of 54 UGM Pharmacy students in the sixth semester of the academic year 2017/2018 participated in this learning activity. Online discussion was conducted on a scientific paper or data obtained from practical courses. Lecturers also provide assignments and online quizzes through eLisa every 2 to 3 weeks. Online assignments and quizzes are opened 24 hours after the lectures. The hybrid e-learning method improve student’s understanding on the lectures and results in the increased number of students who get A marks by 100% compared to conventional learning methods. Most students were satisfied and able to enjoy the learning process with hybrid e-learning with eLisa. This method is able to improve the understanding of subjects and students are satisfied with the implementation of course learning. Further development on improving e-learning methods is needed to improve the quality of learning outcomes.

Student-to-student interaction is a key element in the learning process, and one that is often missing in online classes. The purpose of this case study is to demonstrate how a technology platform that leverages artificial intelligence (AI) can be used to deepen learning in online discussions by analyzing instructor and student perceptions and examining third-party analytics in two hybrid/blended undergraduate courses. The instructors selected Packback, a third-party online discussion platform, to address some of the engagement issues they encountered in the past when using discussion tools within learning management systems (LMS). Packback increased the depth of student discussions by providing real-time feedback to students on the quality of their posts, thus allowing students to improve the quality of their posts. Packback also allowed for more nuanced evaluation and grading of students' forum posts by instructors.

When interacting on a learning task, which is typical of several academic situations, individuals may experience two different motives: Understanding the problem, or showing their competences. When a conflict (confrontation of divergent propositions) emerges from this interaction, it can be solved either in an epistemic way (focused on the task) or in a relational way (focused on the social comparison of competences). The latter is believed to be detrimental for learning. Moreover, research on cooperative learning shows that when they share identical information, partners are led to compare to each other, and are less encouraged to cooperate than when they share complementary information. An epistemic vs. relational conflict vs. no conflict was provoked in dyads composed by a participant and a confederate, working either on identical or on complementary information (N = 122). Results showed that, if relational and epistemic conflicts both entailed more perceived interactions and divergence than the control group, only relational conflict entailed more perceived comparison activities and a less positive relationship than the control group. Epistemic conflict resulted in a more positive perceived relationship than the control group. As far as performance is concerned, relational conflict led to a worse learning than epistemic conflict, and - after a delay - than the control group. An interaction between the two variables on delayed performance showed that epistemic and relational conflicts were different only when working with complementary information. This study shows the importance of the quality of relationship when sharing information during cooperative learning, a crucial factor to be taken into account when planning educational settings at the university.

Quality of life and satisfaction with life as tightly interconnected concepts have become of much importance in the urbanism era. No doubt, it is one of the most important goals of every human society to enhance a citizen’s quality of life and to increase their satisfaction with life. However, there are many signs which demonstrate the low level of life satisfaction of Iranian citizens especially among the youth. Thus, considering the temporal concept of life satisfaction, this research aims to make a futures study in this field. Therefore, using a mixed model and employing research methods from futures studies, life satisfaction among the students of the University of Tehran were measured and their views on this subject investigated. Both quantitative and qualitative data were analysed together in order to test the hypotheses and to address the research questions on the youth discontentment with quality of life. Findings showed that the level of life satisfaction among students is relatively low and their image of the future is not positive and not optimistic. These views were elicited and discussed in the social, economic, political, environmental and technological perspectives. Keywords:  futures studies, quality of life, satisfaction with life, youth

Studying trust within human-robot interaction is of great importance given the social relevance of robotic agents in a variety of contexts. We investigated the acquisition, loss and restoration of trust when preschool and school-age children played with either a human or a humanoid robot in-vivo. The relationship between trust and the quality of attachment relationships, Theory of Mind, and executive function skills was also investigated. No differences were found in children’s trust in the play-partner as a function of agency (human or robot). Nevertheless, 3-years-olds showed a trend toward trusting the human more than the robot, while 7-years-olds displayed the reverse behavioral pattern, thus highlighting the developing interplay between affective and cognitive correlates of trust.
