IntroductionNowadays, in civil aviation, issues related to improving efficiency, reducing the costs of air operations as well as the negative impact of air transport on the environment are of increasing importance. These ideas allow the formulation of the paradigm relating to the development of air transport – ‘more Efficiently, more Economically, more Eco-friendly – 3E’. The article presents in a cross-sectional and synthetic way research conducted by leading scientific centres around the world as well as prototype aviation constructions designed by companies from the aviation industry. Benefits and disadvantages of future propulsions, such as purely electric, hybrid and distributed propulsions, were presented. Conclusions were formulated regarding further possible directions of civil aviation development, taking into account the improvement of its efficiency as well as economic and ecological indicators.

Constant monitoring of the state and development trends of the aviation industry in Ukraine, especially in the context of unstable demand for air transportation caused by the coronavirus infection COVID-19 pandemic, allows aviation enterprises of Ukraine to respond in a timely manner to changes and, if necessary, model their business model of behavior in the market. Over time, the importance and role of aviation in the development of the Ukrainian economy will only increase, therefore, timely research and forecasting of the air transportation market is necessary in order to increase their economic efficiency. The aim of the article is to analyze the patterns and trends inherent in the modern air transportation market in Ukraine, and forecast its development in the context of unstable demand for air transportation. Methodological basis of research was logical methods of information processing, statistical analysis, methods of system analysis, comparison. The basic hypothesis of research was the assumption that the development of the aviation industry in Ukraine is influenced by unstable demand in the domestic and international air transportation markets. Presentation of the main material. The main indicators of the activities of enterprises of the aviation industry of Ukraine, the dynamics of transportation by Ukrainian airlines in the domestic and international air transportation market are analyzed. It was revealed that the development of civil aviation is associated with general trends in international air transport and is due to both global and domestic socio-economic, political and other factors. Originality and practical meaningfulness of research. . It is advisable to use the conducted research in determining the principles of management of aviation enterprises to change the priorities of their economic activities. Conclusions. The analysis of domestic air transportation showed that, despite the instability of the economic situation in the country and the world, the growth rate of air transportation in the Ukrainian segment of the market has a positive trend. For domestic air transport, there are prospects for further development and strengthening of positions in the world air transportation system

Abstract In the review below the author presents a general overview of the selected contemporary legal issues related to the present growth of the aviation industry and the development of aviation technologies. The review is focused on the questions at the intersection of aviation law and personal data protection law. Massive processing of passenger data (Passenger Name Record, PNR) in IT systems is a daily activity for the contemporary aviation industry. Simultaneously, since the mid- 1990s we can observe the rapid growth of personal data protection law as a very new branch of the law. The importance of this new branch of the law for the aviation industry is however still questionable and unclear. This article includes the summary of the author’s own research conducted between 2011 and 2017, in particular his audits in LOT Polish Airlines (June 2011-April 2013) and Lublin Airport (July - September 2013) and the author’s analyses of public information shared by International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), International Air Transport Association (IATA), Association of European Airlines (AEA), Civil Aviation Authority (ULC) and (GIODO). The purpose of the author’s research was to determine the applicability of the implementation of technical and organizational measures established by personal data protection law in aviation industry entities.

Since World War I, the commercial aviation industry has seen many improvements that now allow people and goods to reach the other side of the world in a few hours, consuming much less fuel than in recent decades. Improvements in cargo capacity and energy efficiency were significant, and in this scenario, commercial airlines were able to thrive and bring great benefits to the world economy. However, this sector is facing environmental challenges due to the intensive use of jet fuel. Brazil is one of the largest domestic air passenger markets in the world and still has great growth potential, considering its economic potential and territorial dimensions, which are roughly the same size as the US and twice the size of the European Union. This paper discusses the partial productivity of jet fuel in Brazilian domestic aviation and proposes an econometric method to support public regulators and airline decisions. The proposed model uses variables, such as aircraft size, route characteristics, and idle flight capacity, in a panel data analysis. The results show that reducing idle capacity is one of the best ways to achieve better short-term fuel efficiency, and therefore will reduce the environmental impacts and have positive economic effects on commercial air transport activities. This paper brings a new approach to the discussion of airline performance, focusing on the use of jet fuel, with economic and environmental consequences.

Thanks to the rare combination of features most demanded by travelers and freight forwarders, such as speed, security and global reach, air transport has become one of the most promising and profitable branches of the world economy in a very short time. Unfortunately, the dynamic development of air transport has also led to the escalation of completely new, previously unknown threats, such as aviation terrorism. The aim of the article is to present the process of formation of the European Union institutional and legal tools which stand for the protection of civil aviation against acts of terrorism.

Recently, the incidence of civilian aircraft crashes has increased. These disasters lead to many casualties. Around the world, safetyis apriority in regulating air transport. But flight safety is closely related to pilotfatigue. In this regard, the pilot load standards must be clearly verified. The aim of the article is to analyze the possibility of increasing the sanitary norms of the flight load and at the same timereducing the annual leave for the crew members of civil aviation personnel inRussia. The methods used are both empirical (analysis andsynthesis, induction and deduction, systematization), and theoretical. Each airline must develop an effective risk management system based on thosedeveloped abroad. This system should include control over the rest of the pilots, ensure uninterrupted vacation for at least three weeks, take into account the qualityof the inter-shift rest of the pilots, fly in unusual situations.

The presented article is focused on funding options of regional airports. It describes the provision of state aid to regional airports, and it defines the regional airport, its specifications, and problems. From the view of the present legislation, it evaluates the European Union legislation and its application, it also analyses the state aid provision in civil aviation. In the context of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, it describes the situation in air transport and solves the provision of state aid to regional airports in Slovak Republic. Based on acquired knowledge and information, it suggests the changes in the legislation, and it brings a new vision how to improve the situation of regional airports not only in Slovak Republic, but also in the world.

The development of the SARS-CoV-2 virus epidemic and the associated restrictions on mobility have affected many sectors of the economy, but one of the first to suffer especially was passenger air transport. None of the previous crises in the aviation industry had been so significant and so global. At the beginning of April 2020, air passenger traffic decreased by around 70% globally and by around 90% in Europe compared to 2019. At some European airports, very few air operations were carried out, or they were even completely suspended. The loss of revenues by entities from the aviation sector caused their significant financial problems, which cannot be solved without external support. After lifting the travel restrictions, a reduction in demand for travel by air can be expected. Most likely, the carrier market will consolidate, and the connection network will be reduced, which may aggravate the problems of some already unprofitable airports.

Research background: The authors are providing an update to the ongoing process of Brexit and the negotiations between the UK and the EU, following their own previous research in this area. Purpose of the article: In 2019, the aviation sector in the UK ranked as the third largest in the world. London Heathrow, a hub to many UK airlines, ranked as Europe’s busiest airport and seventh busiest in the world. [1] Brexit negotiations between the UK and the EU, in the context of globalization and the existing deep ties within the EU institutions, presents a complex task. Following the Brexit referendum in June 2016, where the majority of the electorate decided that Britain should leave the EU, events have progressed significantly by the UK leaving the EU formally at 23:59 on the 31st January 2020. However, negotiations are still ongoing and when it comes to Aviation, the outcome in many key areas is still uncertain. Methods: The article is based on data and information collation as well as the authors’ experience within the industry. Findings & Value added: Once the transition period terminates on the 31st December 2020, Brexit will have a significant influence on trading in the European domestic market and globally on the international market. This paper discusses available options for the UK and the EU that follow from existing decisions in the Brexit bill, as well as outlining possible future developments. Furthermore, in light of the existing threats to the Aviation industry from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the cessation of air travel for many weeks, adjustments to the Brexit plan might be required.

Background: The World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a global pandemic on 11 March 2020, due to the number of newly reported confirmed cases and the rapid increase in deaths. Therefore, countries around the world limited their population to policies such as “social distancing” or “staying at home” to prevent the spread of the virus. The purpose of this study was to evaluate differences in lifestyle pre and post the outbreak COVID-19 among older adults in South Korea and to identify the impact of lifestyle differences on depression and quality of life. Methods: An online single questionnaire covering sociodemographic data, lifestyle details, depression status, and quality of life level was distributed using mailing lists and social media. To assess lifestyles differences in older people pre and post the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, the online single questionnaire was used post COVID-19 pandemic. Based on the participants’ memories, they responded lifestyles at two time points (pre and post COVID-19 pandemic). Results: The results showed that there was a significant decrease in physical activity and activity participation during the pandemic. In terms of nutrition, there was no statistically significant change pre and post the outbreak COVID-19, except for the intake of protein, fat, and vitamins. Additionally, the results showed that the resulting lifestyle differences seem to have had a negative impact on depression and quality of life among older adults in South Korea. Conclusion: There was a significant difference the lifestyle patterns among the participants in South Korea between the current period and pre COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, it is observed that these differenced lifestyles were associated with depression and quality of life among the participants. Our findings may help to develop public health programs that support healthy lifestyles in pandemic conditions.

The statute for the creation of the Provisional International Civil Aviation Organization was the product of the International Civil Aviation Conference held in Chicago, Illinois, November 1 to December 7, 1944. The Conference agreed that pending the establishment of a permanent international organization to handle problems of air transport, a provisional organization, to exist for not more than three years, should be created when 26 countries had ratified the agreement, to start work on the complex issues arising from the extension of international air routes to most of the major countries of the world.
