This study aimed to investigate the impact of three strategic planning dimensions (environmental analysis, strategic direction and strategy formulation) on the five performance dimensions of Yemeni universities (profitability, market share, social responsibility, customer satisfaction, and scientific research). The descriptive analytical method was used and the data were collected by using a questionnaire. The study population consisted of the academic and administrative leaders in the Yemeni universities from which a sample of 301 participants were selected using the census method. To achieve the study objective and test the hypothesis, the descriptive and inferential statistical methods were used. The results of the study revealed an interest in practicing strategic planning dimensions in the Yemeni universities under investigation. There was a disparity in the level of achieving the performance dimensions, where 'market share' was the most achieved dimension, and 'profitability' was the least achieved dimension. The results also showed a disparity in the impact of strategic planning dimensions on the performance of Yemeni universities, where ‘strategy formulation’ was the most influential dimension; and ‘strategic direction’ was the least influential dimension. It was concluded that Yemeni universities should direct more focus on their practice of strategic planning of all dimensions because it has a positive impact on their performance. Keywords: strategic planning, performance, Yemeni universities

Enriching the limited knowledge and research on linkage between strategic management, human resource and innovation in developing economies, this paper focuses on the role of participative strategic planning (PSP), promotion focus and flexible role orientation (FRO) on innovation capability in Iranian SMEs. Furthermore, the moderating role of ideation strategy will be investigated. A total of 252 samples were collected from Iranian SME managers and employees in the different sectors through a quantitative method. A questionnaire was used for the data collection, and AMOS-SEM was employed for data analysis. The results indicate that PSP has a positive and significant impact on promotion focus, FRO, and innovation capability. In addition, it is shown that ideation strategy moderates the impact of promotion focus and FRO on innovation capabilities. Given the positive impact of PSP on promotion focus, FRO, and innovation capability, it is suggested that SME’s top managers use staff and managers with different levels in strategic planning processes and long-term organisation goals.

Performance management is an established concept in the public sector, with several empirical studies supporting its beneficial impact on organizational performance. Research on performance management, however, is still in initial stages and mostly examines the impact of this practice under stable environmental conditions. This study adds to the literature by analyzing the effect of this system on performance of local transit agencies in a turbulent environment characterized by the Great Recession and its aftermath. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) on survey responses from 162 local transit agencies in the United States is used to extract the four components of performance management, namely, formal strategic planning, logical incrementalism, performance measurement, and performance information use. Ordinary least squares (OLS) regression analysis shows that an independent use of formal strategic planning and logical incrementalism has a negative impact on organizational performance under turbulence. Performance measurement and a blend of formal strategic planning and logical incrementalism, however, show a positive impact.

Mexico concentrates the marginalization in the southeastern states, to counteract this problem the federal government implemented several universal social programs, including Prospera. This research analyzes the impact generated among the beneficiaries of the Prospera Program based on income from work, and the variables of education, health, food security, both at the state level in Veracruz and Oaxaca and in the Istmo region that integrate both states. The Propensity Score Matching method was used to assess the impacts on labor inclusion that have those who receive the program, in contrast, with those who do not receive federal support. In addition, through the Analysis of Main Components, we related the productive and marginalization variables to find the characteristics of the study population. The results show that the Prospera program does not have a significant impact on the per capita income of the head of household. However, quintiles two and five have greater negative effects for the population from the Istmo. It is essential to revalue the Prospera Program strategy and incorporate more rigorous administration to have a positive impact for the rural population dedicated to agricultural activities.

Abstract Background The study objective was to evaluate the impact of a population-level intervention (the IA Agreement) on the one-year risk for long-term sickness absence spells (LSAS) among young and middle aged workers in Norway. Methods Using an observational design, we conducted a quasi-experimental study to analyse registry data on individual LSAS for all employed individuals in 2000 (n=298 690) and 2005 (n=352 618), born in Norway between 1976 and 1967. The intervention of interest was the tripartite agreement for a more inclusive working life (the IA Agreement). We estimated difference in pre-post differences (DID) in LSAS between individuals working in IA companies with the intervention and companies without, in 2000 and 2005. We used logistic regression models and present odds ratios (DID OR) with accompanying 95% CI. We stratified analyses by sex, industry and company size. Results . We found no significant change in the overall risk of long-term sickness absence spells after implementing the intervention among young and middle aged workers. Stratified by sex, the intervention resulted in a slight decrease in LSAS risk among female workers (DID OR 0.93 (0.91-0.96)) while the intervention showed no impact among male workers (DID OR 1.01 (0.97-1.06)). We found that companies signing the IA Agreement were large (≥50 employees) and often within the manufacturing and health and social sectors. In large manufacturing companies, we found a reduction in LSAS, among workers both in companies with and without the intervention, resulting in no statistically significant impact of the IA intervention. In large health and social companies, we found an increase in LSAS among workers both in companies with and without the intervention. The increase was smaller among the workers in companies offering the IA intervention compared with workers in companies without, resulting in a positive impact of the IA intervention in the health and social industry. This impact was statistically significant only among female workers. Conclusions The results indicate that the impact of the IA Agreement on the risk of long-term sickness absence spells varies considerably depending on sex and industry. These findings suggest that reducing LSAS may warrant industry-specific interventions.

Palm oil’s utilization as a renewable energy (RE) source has led the government to intervene by introducing emission reduction projects. Carbon trading projects are part of the strategic direction adopted within the climate mitigation plan and sustainability drive in the palm oil industry. The perquisites and opportunities encountered within emissions trading are expected to aid palm oil producers economically, environmentally, and socially. This study addresses and analyses how the carbon trading projects’ targets in Malaysia can be achieved, the problematic, and pressing issues around their implementation and whether these projects are sustainable and create a positive impact. This paper is based on literature reviews and semi-structured interviews with expert palm oil producers in Malaysia. The findings have revealed that carbon trading implementation in Malaysia has delivered new insights towards the international climate policy approach on the feasibility and impact of long-term sustainability goals. However, the impact of the implementation needs support from the government for further development. In conclusion, the major contribution of this study is that the carbon trading implementation in Malaysia complies with the objectives and principles of sustainable development and creates a significant influx in investment for Malaysia’s economic growth.

The object of this study was to determine if a developmental assessment centre improves managerial performance in the workplace. Focus was placed on the behavioural level of evaluation. The research design made use of a two-group design with random selection and a control group. A sample of 76 managers, at supervisory level, was used. Behaviourally anchored rating-scales were developed to measure the job-performance of participating managers. The results indicated significant differences between the experimental and the control groups for six performance dimensions. Significant differences were also found in all the second-order factors (clusters of dimensions) and the total managerial performance score. Thus, the developmental assessment centre had a positive impact on managerial performance, and this effect was still measurable three months after centre attendance. In order to generalise the results of this study it is essential to do further research on the utility of the developmental assessment centre.
