The study aimed to identify the effectiveness of the Blackboard elements during Coronavirus pandemic in light of the quality assurance and accreditation standards from the viewpoint of faculty members at the Mathematics Department, Umm Al-Qura University. To achieve the objectives of the study, the descriptive analytical method was used. The study sample consisted of (45) members of the teaching staff in the mathematics departments of Umm Al-Qura University, who taught mathematics courses during Coronavirus pandemic.  The questionnaire, which consisted of (33) items, was used to collect relevant data. The results of the study indicated that the effectiveness of the four components of the Blackboard that were studied during the Corona pandemic in light of the standards of quality assurance and accreditation was at a medium degree of (3.32), while the effectiveness component of cloud storage on the Blackboard got the highest score (3.68). The effectiveness component of the digital library on the Blackboard got the lowest score among the four elements (3.11). These results suggested the need to increase attention to the requirements of achieving quality assurance and work to raise them in higher education institutions for interactive mathematics courses, as the lack of interest in them may have affected the results and outcomes of mathematics students. The study concluded with a number of recommendations, including supporting the elements of the Blackboard and using them in the educational process, developing and evaluating them in the light of quality standards; conducting further studies on the use of the Blackboard; providing all facilities for the success of the educational process; and seeking to achieve quality and accreditation requirements whenever possible.

Quality assurance has been recognized as being important in higher education; however, there are numerous reports that it is challenging to engage faculty members in quality assurance processes in a meaningful way. A frequently cited reason for faculty members’ resistance is that they find the process to be authoritarian and non-collegial. This paper presents a case study which shows that changing the tone of the language used to communicate with academics about the institutional quality assurance process—from a bureaucratic and authoritative tone to a more collegial one—can serve as a countertactic to help mitigate the resistance of faculty members to this process. Using corpus-based techniques, we investigate the language used in documents to communicate with faculty members about quality assurance. We then demonstrate that, following a linguistic revision to introduce a more collegial tone to these communications, faculty members appear to be more willing to engage in the quality assurance process in a meaningful way.

This paper investigates some of the cross-cultural challenges faced by faculty members teaching transnational higher education in a foreign country. It employs the intercultural competence process model and attempts to provide some best practices that are already implemented in an international branch campus (IBC) in Uzbekistan. Hopefully, this sharing of practices will develop intercultural competence and better prepare transnational faculty members to be more efficient and effective in motivating students in transnational education programmes. Furthermore, apart from increased motivation for students, this important professional development initiative for faculty teaching staff may lead to improvement in learning outcomes over time.

Based on the importance of the interdisciplinary studies and their methods in the social sciences, the current research is concerned with the diagnosis and description of the barriers to interdisciplinary studies in the social sciences with the aim of finding out the obstructions associated with the structure of the academic context and the characteristics of researchers that prevent or hinder the application of interdisciplinary studies. The study used a set of methodological procedures which were the analytical descriptive approach, the case study method, and the non-random sampling method for a group of faculty members at the College of Arts and Social Sciences at Sultan Qaboos University and the Faculty of Arts at Ain Shams University. Thirty-two cases were studied; 16 cases from each faculty. The study found that the size of hindrances related to academic context were found to be 60% higher in the Faculty of Arts at Ain Shams University compared to the College of Arts and Social Sciences at Sultan Qaboos University. The study concludes that interdisciplinary studies in the social sciences are still at the stage of identification and conceptualization in the research community. Moreover, teaching staff are keen to remain within the boundaries of their specializations.

The article explores specific aspects of involving the guarantor of the educational program in its formation. The urgency is due to intensive changes in the quality assurance system of higher education, which require performing related new functions by research and teaching staff. That is why the National Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education has proposed a separate functional – the guarantor of the educational program – who coordinates the design, updating and implementation of the educational program. Correct involvement of the guarantor at the stage of the educational program formation will help to avoid the shortcomings caused by violation of logic and the formal attitude to the maintenance of educational programs. A survey of educational program guarantors was developed and conducted, thanks to which it was established that the vast majority of them were deliberately involved at all major stages of the educational program formation. It is rather positive that even at the stage of initiation, which is primarily the preference of collective and / or administrative bodies of higher education institutions, guarantors are informed about the possibility of opening an educational program. Guarantors are actively involved in studying the experience of foreign and Ukrainian educational programs, primarily determining which of them deserve attention. However, it should be emphasized that both in the development of best practices and in the development of the curriculum as part of the educational program guarantors recognize the most important parameter of educational components that is logical, because it is based on the educational process implementation. It can be stated that the lack of sufficient practical experience, the process of accumulation and analysis of pros and cons in the educational process formation, which is still ongoing, currently do not allow to draw an unambiguous conclusion about the conclusive creation and certainty of the guarantor’s functionality. Therefore, it is important, on the one hand, to conduct further research and outreach on the guarantor’s functionality and participation in the educational program formation, and on the other – to promote the development and improvement of the local regulatory framework of higher education institutions on this issue.

Faculty work now includes market-like behaviors that create research, teaching, and service opportunities. This study employs an embedded case study design to evaluate the extent to which faculty members interact with external organizations to mitigate financial constraints and how those relationships vary by academic discipline. The findings show a similar number of ties among faculty members in high- and low-resource disciplines, reciprocity between faculty members and external organizations, and an expanded conceptualization of faculty work.
