The aspect of relevance becomes an indicator of the success of vocational education. In order for vocational school graduates to be able to compete in the era of technological disruption, Vocational Schools are required to be able to produce graduates who have the alignment of competencies possessed by each graduate with the competencies needed in the world of work. To achieve the relevance of vocational education, the development of an integrated solution model for the preparation of vocational education graduates needs to be based on the need for ICT-assisted career services. In this study, survey design was used to examine the mapping of student/graduate needs, career service managers, and graduate users and development design to design an integrated solution model for the preparation of vocational education graduates. The results of mapping the needs of students/graduates, career service managers, and users are used as the basis for developing an integrated solution model for preparing vocational education graduates. It is hoped that this model can be used to optimize career services for students and vocational school graduates in Indonesia in the era of technological disruption.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to overview the Backpack‐to‐Briefcase project which established a set of prototype career development learning strategies for Australian university career services, with the aim of contributing to their services for supporting students and graduates to make a smoother transition into graduate employment and the world‐of‐work.Design/methodology/approachA case study analysis of the development and implementation of three career development learning interventions is described. These interventions include: employability skills workshops for students; career mentoring for students; and services to small and medium sized employers to support their recruitment and induction of new graduates into their worksites.FindingsThe prototype interventions developed in the project extended the work of the university's Career Service. The interventions were judged as having the capacity to be readily implemented by university career services. A key outcome was the success of the graduate‐induction initiative which engaged small and medium sized employers traditionally unfamiliar with or unable to enter the graduate recruitment market.Originality/valueThis case study highlights the value of university career services' contributions to undergraduate preparation for the world‐of‐work, particularly in regional areas. Furthermore, the case study highlights the importance of inter‐departmental cooperation within the university environment, and the value of university‐industry collaboration toward the goal of improving graduates' transitions into the workforce, particularly in rural and regional areas.

In the article - "Graduation from higher and vocational school does not always end with employment" – it is discussed the problem of youth unemployment and the reason for this is the incompatibility of the higher and vocational education system in Georgia with the requirements of the labor market. Youth is dominant among the unemployed population of Georgia. They graduate from vocational schools or colleges but do not work according to their professions, it is proved by labor market research, as well as by 2017 survey of the Department of Vocational Education of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, in their conclusion part it was mentioned 56.2 graduates in employment. The authors of the article mention the demand-labor imbalance in the labor market as the first reason for youth unemployment, and one of the reasons for the lack of knowledge and skills, in the market among young people is the lack of state funding for education. With such small resources, higher and vocational schools find it difficult to hire highly qualified professional teachers, which obviously reduces the quality of teaching. Due to low funding, vocational and higher education institutions (especially in the private sector) make savings mainly on wages. An hourly salary of 5-10 GEL is considered as normal with them. Only the low-qualified teachers come to such payment. The authors consider that almost half of the graduates are unemployed precisely because of their low level of knowledge. The authors consider the test method of knowledge control as the second reason and believes that this method makes it impossible to assess the depth of knowledge of the student. The article ends with a summarizing conclusion. Key words: Employment; Youth unemployment; High education; Vocational education; Labor Market; Demand-supply in the labor market.

This paper investigates the different impacts of vocational schools and universities on regional development in China. To account for a possible two-way causality between education and economic development, a system of supply and demand equations is introduced. The results show that vocational education has higher impact on regional development than university education in China. Concerning the reverse causality, the paper finds that effect of regional development on university education is higher than its effect on vocational school education.
