Teluk Pamukan is the closest fishing ground used by fishermen who live on the coast of Teluk Pamukan. Apart from fisheries, several other activities in the Teluk Pamukan area include industrial shipping or coal transportation traffic using barges, transportation of crude palm oil (CPO), and is an area for loading and unloading fertilizers and oil palm kernels by tankers. This activity has led to allegations of disturbance in the aquatic ecosystem in the form of a decrease in water quality, particularly in fishing areas. The decrease in water quality will certainly affect the status of water quality that is no longer by its designation so that it can cause social problems in the community. The purpose of this research was to identify the general characteristics of Teluk Pamukan, map the distribution patterns of water quality and the scale of water quality in Teluk Pamukan, and to analyze fishermen's perceptions of the decline in water quality. The sampling location was in the waters of Teluk Pamukan. The method used to determine the status of water quality was the Pollutant Index according to the opinion of Sumitomo and Nemerow (1970). The results obtained can be concluded that the environmental quality scale for each parameter varied from very bad to very good. However, the results of the pollutant index calculation at all stations were included in the Moderately Polluted category

Batang Asam River as a source of raw water for Drinking Water Supply Systems (SPAM) and daily needs. On May 19, 2015 there was pollution in the Batang Asam River due to the spillage of palm oil wastewater from one of the palm oil companies around the Batang Asam River. The water river becomes smelly and black and many fish die. The initial testing  showed that BOD parameter = 10 mg / l), COD = 50 mg / l, TSS = 16 mg / l, N-Total = 3.86 mg / l, pH = 6.02, Oil and fat = 2.8 mg / l, where almost all parameters above the quality standard. The purpose of this study was to analyze status of water and water quality of Batang Asam River Using Pollution Index Method as a result of spilling palm oil wastewater.  Water sampling of the Batang Asam River was carried out in 4 (four) locations, namely the upstream area of Lubuk Bernai Village, the Central area of Lubuk Lawas Village and Tanjung Bojo Village and the downstream of Kampung Baru Village (Pengabuan River Estuary). Parameters tested were pH, TSS, TDS, BOD, COD, DO, Fe, Oil and fat based on Government Regulation Number 82 of 2001 concerning Water Pollution Control and Water Quality Management For Class II. Analysis of water quality status using the Pollution Index method based on the Minister of Environment Regulation Number 115 of 2003 concerning Guidelines for Determining the Status of Water Quality.  The results showed that the analysis of the average waterquality of Batang Asam River from four locations tested were parameters pH 6,8, TDS parameters 79,5 mg / l, TSS parameters 15,25 mg / l, DO parameters 3,025 mg / l, BOD parameters 2,935 mg/l, COD parameters 14,5 mg / l, Fe 0,645 mg / l and parameters of oil and fat 1 mg /l satisfy the class II water quality standard (PP No. 82 of 2001). The status of Batang Asam River shows that the status of water quality is mildly polluted with a pollution index value of 1,0 ≤ IP ≤ 5,0 which is 1,96.

River Water with good quality status is the primary needs for the Indonesian people who live along the river. Indonesia has more or less 303 rivers with varied status of water quality. On the other side, the government is obliged to conduct the current situation mapping and to spread the status of river water quality to the surrounding society. It is certainly not an easy job considering the amount and width of the monitoring area. Therefore, this research has proposed a new concept to map the status of river water quality using the STORET method by involving the active participation of the local river community. The locations of research are: Kambaniru river, Brantas river, dan Gajah Wong river. There are seven parameters used to determine the status of river water quality those are: temperature, EC/DHL, TDS, PH, DO, BOD and Caliform. The river community can report the data of analysis result into a system in accordance with the sampling location by enclosing the spatial data. The system will present the status of water quality starting from each point of location to the status of water quality of certain river. The testing result functionally indicates that the system is able to give perfect accuration value. While from its usability, the respondents’ responses are as follows: very agree 60.40%, agree 37.95%, and disagree 1.65%.

AbstractFree-living nematode communities were investigated at four morphologically different reaches along the River Wien, Austria. A near natural (NN) reach, two impounded reaches of different size (small and large: SI, LI) and a restored reach (RR) were sampled in autumn, winter, spring and summer (2004-2005). A total of 4144 individuals were counted and comprised 78 species. Nematodes of the impounded sites contributed least (5% at SI) and most (60% at LI) to the total fauna. Mean site abundances (ind./10 cm2) were 68, 27, 10 and 1 at RR, NN, LI and SI, respectively. Species diversity ranged from 1.59 at LI to 2.16 at RR. Bacterivorous nematodes dominated all sites (>50%); only algivorous Chromadoridae represented a high percentage contribution (46%) at LI. Based on this high portion, the maturity index (MI 1-5) was highest at this site (2.61). The MI indicated status of good water quality for the NN (2.5). The relatively low MI (2.10) and the high portion of cp1 Secernentea (14%) reflect the status of critical pollution at the restored site. The patterns of average taxonomic distinctness (ATD) did not optimally reflect habitat quality; a better descriptor of degraded river habitats seems to be the variation of taxonomic distinctness (VTD) in this study. In conclusion, the MI seems to be a better descriptor of pollution and the VTD of morphological degradation.

Since its establishment, Crude Palm Oil futures contract (FCPO) has been used to directly hedge its physical crude palm oil (CPO). However, due to the excessive speculation activities on crude palm oil futures market, it has been said to be no longer an effective hedging tool to mitigate the price risk of its underlying physical market. This triggers the need for market players to find possible alternatives to ensure that the hedging role can be executed effectively. Thus this investigation attempts to examine whether other inter-related grains and oil seed futures contracts could serve as effective cross-hedging mechanisms for the CPO. Weekly data of inter-related futures contracts from Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) and Dalian Commodity Exchange (DCE) are employed to cross hedge the physical crude palm oil prices. The study starts from 2006 until 2016. Empirical results indicate that FCPO is still the best futures contract for hedging purposes while Chicago Soybean (CBOTBO) provides second best alternative if cross-hedging is considered. The main purpose of this study is to compare the performances of univariate and bivariate models on four time series variables of the crude palm oil industry in Peninsular Malaysia. The monthly data for the four variables, which are the crude palm oil production, price, import and export, were obtained from Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) and Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC). In the first part of this study, univariate time series models, namely, the autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA), fractionally integrated autoregressive moving average (ARFIMA) and autoregressive autoregressive (ARAR) algorithm were used for modelling and forecasting purposes. Subsequently, the dependence between any two of the four variables were checked using the residuals’ sample cross correlation functions before modelling the bivariate time series. In order to model the bivariate time series and make prediction, the transfer function models were used. The forecast accuracy criteria used to evaluate the performances of the models were the mean absolute error (MAE), root mean square error (RMSE) and mean absolute percentage error (MAPE). The results of the univariate time series showed that the best model for predicting the production was ARIMA  while the ARAR algorithm were the best forecast models for predicting both the import and export of crude palm oil. However, ARIMA  appeared to be the best forecast model for price based on the MAE and MAPE values while ARFIMA  emerged the best model based on the RMSE value.  When considering bivariate time series models, the production was dependent on import while the export was dependent on either price or import. The results showed that the bivariate models had better performance compared to the univariate models for production and export of crude palm oil based on the forecast accuracy criteria used.

ABSTRACTIndonesia is the world's largest producer of crude palm oil (CPO). Even so, the trend of international trade in Indonesian CPO products has decreased in the last 10 years with a value of -10.19%. The decline in world demand for CPO can be dealt with by utilizing CPO as a biofuel for domestic use, like biodiesel. The purpose of this study is to determine the competitiveness of Indonesian CPO in global trade and determine the parameters of the quality requirements of CPO and biodiesel. The competitiveness analysis method uses the Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA) method, while the analysis of the potential quality of CPO as a biofuel is carried out by analyzing the Indonesian National Standard (SNI). CPO trade in the global market is controlled by Indonesia with a market share of 50% and Malaysia 25.6%, with the declining trade trend in the last 10 years relatively (2010-2019) of -6.91%. The level of competitiveness of Indonesian CPO products in 2019 is very strong, but on average in the last 10 years, the level of competitiveness of Indonesian CPO is no better than that of Malaysia. Indonesia has SNI 01-2901-2006 and SNI 7182: 2015 as a determinant of the quality of CPO and biodiesel products developed in Indonesia so that the CPO and biodiesel produced fullfil sacurity and safety aspects when used by consumers. Keywords: crude palm oil (CPO), competitivenessv, quality, Indonesian National Standard (SNI) ABSTRAKIndonesia merupakan negara produsen minyak kelapa sawit mentah/ Crude Palm Oil (CPO) terbesar di dunia.

A study on water quality status of three riverine systems, S. Bailang (SB), S. Maasing (SM), and S. Tondano (ST), in coastal city of Manado, North Sulawesi Province, has been conducted to measure several water quality parameters, to analyse source and quality of wastewater discharge, and to assess the status of the rivers related to the water quality. Measurement of the parameters was conducted using three indicators, i.e. organic (BOD5) and in-organic (N-NO3 and P-PO4), and pathogenic microorganism (Escherichia coli [EC] and total coliform [TC]). The result showed that the level of water quality varied between the rivers. The average level of water quality (based on the observed parameters) in SB, respectively, was 0.317 mg/l, 0.093 mg/l, 2 mg/l, >2420 MPN, and  >2420 MPN; in SM, respectively, was 0.029 mg/l, 1.859 mg/l, 17.7 mg/l, >2420 MPN, and >2420 MPN; and in ST, respectively, was 0.299 mg/l, 0.252 mg/l, 3.5 mg/l, >2420 MPN, and >2420 MPN. The level of water quality between the rivers was not significantly different (p>0.05), except based on the parameter of N-NO3 which was significantly different (p<0.01). The status of the observed rivers varied based on the classes of their water utilities (according to the Government Regulation of Indonesia, No. 82, 2001); mostly was "unsuitable".
