Fast change, uncertainty, and strong competition are challenges of the actual worldwide economic context. Competitiveness is a main requirement of enterprises, whose satisfaction requires the definition of new organisational concepts, with extremely high performances that are strongly time-oriented while highly focused on cost and quality. Several factors appear as supreme factors of competitiveness: (1) the organisations’ capability to achieve and explore competitive advantages in synergy, by using or integrating the optimal available resources for the functions that the organisation undertakes; (2) the capability of fast adaptability to the market; together with (3) the capability of managing all business processes independently of distance, to be achieved through the recent virtual enterprise (VE) organisational models (Cunha & Putnik, 2002; Cunha, Putnik, & Ávila, 2000).

Abstract Openness is an expression of an enterprise’s ability to adapt to changing environment conditions and its ability to cooperate with different types of partners. A given company’s openness shows its readiness for the creation of dynamics of many business processes, including the creation of its competitive advantage. Due to the nature of today’s enterprises’ environment, mainly its “high velocity” & “complexity” attributes, openness of companies has to be multifaceted. Organization-customer relationships, called co-creation, are one of such facets. The capacity for effective co-creation gives a company the ability to gain a competitive advantage along with the chance for its permanent dynamization and sustainability. The main purpose of the paper is to present the framework and algorithm of co-creation as a method of reducing the complexity of the environment and dynamizing companies’ competitive advantages. A review of literature in the areas of open organization, open culture, partnership, co-creation, and competitive advantage provides a basis for understanding the process of co-creation. Collected data show that the activity of enterprises in this process is a key factor in the reduction of complexity of a company’s environment and an important stimulator of the dynamization of a company’s competitive advantage. The authors’ own CATI questionnaire survey research conducted in Poland showed the level of preparation Polish SMEs have to co-create.

One of the most-recognized circular economy frameworks is the Cradle-to-Cradle design philosophy. However, integrating circularity in business practices impacts all organizational activities and not just the design of products and services. One of the business processes that needs to integrate sustainability is project management. Based on a single in-depth case study, the integration of Cradle-to-Cradle into the knowledge areas of project management within a company that is widely recognized and praised for its commitment to sustainability and its compliance with Cradle-to-Cradle, was explored. Innovation is crucial for business in order to meet consumers' needs and stakeholders' expectations. Innovation emerges as a must for all activity sectors, including the textile industry. Change can be an opportunity for organizations that present competitive advantages and new solutions. However, not all changes are directly visible, and innovation by nature is impossible to quantify and measure. This intangibility requires tools to help managers monitor the results of their investment. The present study applies the Innovation Scoring 1.0, a Portuguese tool for companies to self-evaluate in what concerns innovation, efficiency, and profitability improvement. It is structured in three main sections: literature review, case study, and conclusions. The study showed that a company may improve its results through open innovation, being leadership, and organizational culture determinants in the process.
