Aim: A study on Sauvignon blanc (SB) cultivar in France showed that curettage had an effect on the resilience of GTD grapevines. No experiments, however, have been conducted on its effects on wine quality, particularly on white Sauvignon blanc cultivar wines. Methods and results: Grapevines from Sauvignon blanc cultivar that had expressed Esca-foliar symptoms were used for the study, with some of them having been curetted in 2014. Subsequently, bunches from Control (asymptomatic), Curetted and Esca-symptomatic vines were harvested in 2017 and 2018 in order to produce white wine. Technical and chemical results on both must and wine showed that wines from curetted plants were similar to those from asymptomatic vines. There were differences, however, for Esca-diseased vines, where the alcoholic fermentation of musts was faster than for the other modalities. Olfactometry results showed that, for the one-year-old 2017 vintage wines, no differences were detected, although they were for the 2018 vintage. Conclusion: The results of the chemical analyses and wine tasting showed that the wines from curetted and asymptomatic grapevines were similar, and that their quality was the same.Significance of the study: The quality of wines from curetted vines compared to asymptomatic ones was confirmed and validated through chemical and sensory analyses of the must and the one-year-old wines.

Proximate composition of whole roe bags and washed eggs of perch(Perca fluviatilis) was studied at different stages of maturity. Lipids and fatty acids of the roe were investigated in detail. Perch roe was processed using chemical preservatives, sugar, salt, and freezing and changes in the quality of the products were followed by chemical and sensory analyses during a one-year cold- and frozen-storage period. Mature roe as roe bags contained 13 % protein, 4 % fat and 1 % ash on wet weight basis. The amounts of protein and ash decreased somewhat when the roe was screened. The major lipids in perch roe were sterol and wax esters composing about 80 % of the total lipids. Polyenoic acids with dominant docosahexaenoic acid composed about half of the fatty acids in neutral lipids whereas saturated acids dominated in phospholipids. Frozen, washed roe was better in its quality during the one-year storage time as compared to heavy-salted, cold-stored roe containing preservatives which, in turn, was preferred to the light-salted, frozen roe or sugar-salted, cold-stored roe.

Abstract Background Healthy Life -groups are targeted to patients with symptoms of metabolic syndrome, problems with coping or overweight at public health centers in Helsinki. The aim of one-year Healthy Life -group is to give support for self-care and empowerment. The groups are generic, and each participant sets her own goal such as smoking cessation, alcohol or weight management. Methods To create opportunities for positive and empowering diet intervention for working aged population, we have started a pilot study with visual food diary (MealLogger). The nutritionist are coaching the three-month-intervention aiming at improving the diet quality. Participants share photos of their meals with each other and receive peer support. Results During years 2016 - 2018, 445 completed the one-year intervention in Healthy Life -groups. The mean decrease of weight loss was 4 kg (n = 222) and decrease of waist circumference 5 cm (n = 57). Conclusions Since the goal for most participants was weight loss, we decided to offer a modern intervention with MealLogger-application. During year 2019 we will complete six groups (about 100 participants) and we will measure participants food quality, weight, waist circumference, quality of life. The results we report in the autumn. Key messages To manage overweight epidemic, new prevention strategies are needed in the primary health care. Visual food diary enables positive and empowering approach to improve died quality and weight management.

The evaluation of 6 clonal selections of Sauvignon blanc grapes grown at McLaren Vale in South Australia identified 2 significantly (P<0.05) higher yielding clones, F4V6 and F14V9. F4V6 and F14V9 had significantly lower total soluble solids TTS) in the years where all clones were harvested together. In 1 year, F4V6 and F14V9 were harvested 9 days later than the remaining clones. Their TSS values were not significantly different, The titratable acidities of F4V6 and F14V9 were lower due to lower tartrate and malate levels. The pH of F4V6 was higher than that of any other clone at a similar maturity level. (Clones F4V6 and F14V9 had greater yields per vine in all 3 years.

Background and purpose: Surveys on the proportion of contraception uptake have been regularly conducted in Indonesia, including Bali Province. However, very limited studies have explored contraceptive continuation rates. This study aims to examine continuation rates for injectable contraception and IUD including its determinants. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted in Buleleng District. A total of 100 reproductive age women who ever used or currently using injectable contraception or IUD were recruited to participate in the study. One village at Buleleng District was purposively selected and samples were selected from all registered reproductive age couples at the village using a systematic random sampling method. Data were collected through home interviews and were analysed using survival analysis to calculate contraceptive continuation rates. Multivariate analysis were performed using cox regression to identify factors associated to continuation rates for injectable contraception and IUD. Analysis was done using STATA SE 12.1.Results: The one year continuation rate for IUD for first child was 84.62% whereas for injectable contraception was 71.03%. When sex variable of the child was applied, the one year continuation rate for IUD for first child was higher among those who have male child (81.82%) than female child (66.67%). Similarly, the one year continuation rate for injectable contraception was higher among those who have male child (79.10%) than female child (57.58%). The one year contraceptive continuation rate is also higher for the second child than the first one (79.56 vs 71.03 for injectable and 87.88 vs 84.62 for IUD). The multivariate analysis showed that perceived quality of family planning services was associated to contraceptive continuation rates (AHR=2.54; 95%CI: 1.22-5.29).Conclusions: The continuation rate for IUD was higher than injectable contraception. Higher contraceptive continuation rate was found among those who have male children. The contraceptive continuation rate was associated with perceived quality of family planning services. Interventions to improve the quality of family planning services are warranted.

ABSTRACT: The sensory quality of wines is affected by the compounds produced by the action of the yeasts used in alcoholic fermentation. This work aimed at assessing the physicochemical, aromatic and sensory properties of the ‘Riesling Italico’ white wines produced by using the Saccharomyces and non-Saccharomyces yeasts. The yeasts S. cerevisiae, S. cerevisiae cerevisiae, S. bayanus, Torulaspora delbrueckii and Metschnikowia pulcherrima were inoculated individually into the must. For 10 days, the alcohol was left to ferment in 7 L carboys in triplicate, at 15º C temperature. The standard physicochemical analyses were done and the quality of the wines was determined. The volatile compounds were identified and quantitative descriptive sensory analyses were performed. All the yeasts produced wines with the characteristic alcohol, volatile acidity and residual sugar content as stipulated by the Brazilian legislation. The T. delbrueckii yeast produced high-content phenylethyl acetate, isoamyl acetate and ethyl decanoate wines, of superior olfactory quality and sensory rating.

Introduction One-year mortality in COPD patients is reported to be between 4% and 43%, depending on the group examined. Aim To examine the one-year mortality in COPD patients after severe exacerbation and the correlation between mortality and patients’ characteristics and comorbidities. Methods A total of 152 COPD patients hospitalized for severe exacerbation were assessed for vitamin D status, diabetes mellitus (DM), arterial hypertension (AH), and metabolic syndrome (MS). Data were gathered about smoking status and number of exacerbations in previous year. CAT and mMRC questionnaires were completed by all patients. Pre- and post-bronchodilatory spirometry was performed. One-year mortality was established from national death register. Results One-year mortality is 7.2%. DM, MS, and VD are not predictors for one-year mortality. However there is a trend for increased mortality in patients with AH (9.5% vs. 2.1%, p = 0.107). There is increased mortality in patients with mMRC > 2 (11.1 vs. 0%, p = 0.013). The presence of severe exacerbation in the previous year is a risk factor for mortality (12.5% vs. 1.4%, p = 0.009). There is a trend for increased mortality in the group with FEV1 < 50% (11.5 vs. 4.4%, p = 0.094). Cox regression shows 3.7% increase in mortality rate for 1% decrease in FEV1, 5.2% for 1% decrease in PEF, 7.8% for one year age increase and 8.1% for 1 CAT point increase (all p < 0.05). Conclusions This study finds relatively low one-year mortality in COPD patients after surviving severe exacerbation. Grade C and FEV1 > 80% may be factors for good prognosis. Risk factors for increased mortality are age, FEV1 value, severe exacerbation in previous year and reduced quality of life.

Abstract. Satellite retrievals of methane weighted atmospheric columns are studied within a Bayesian inversion system to infer the global and regional methane emissions and sinks. 19-month inversions from June 2009 to December 2010 are independently computed from three different space-borne observing systems under various hypotheses for prior-flux and observation errors. Posterior methane emissions are inter-compared and evaluated with surface mole fraction measurements, via a chemistry-transport model. Sensitivity tests show that refining the assigned error statistics has a larger impact on the quality of the inverted fluxes than correcting for residual airmass-factor-dependent biases in the satellite retrievals. Improved configurations using TANSO-FTS, SCIAMACHY, IASI and surface measurements induce posterior methane global budgets of respectively, 568 ± 17 Tg yr−1, 603 ± 28 yr−1, 524 ± 16 yr−1 and 538 ± 20 yr−1 over the one-year period August 2009–July 2010. This consistency between some of these satellite retrievals and surface measurements is promising for future improvement of CH4 emission estimates by inversions.

Introduction: An infection by COVID-19 triggers a dangerous cytokine storm, so tocilizumab has been introduced in Italy as an agent blocking the cytokine storm. This paper aims to describe the one-year survival of ICU patients treated with tocilizumab. Methods: This observational study enrolled all patients confirmed to be infected by COVID-19 who were admitted to the ICU in our center. We offered tocilizumab to all non-septic patients if they did not present any contraindications. Results: We enrolled 68 ICU patients in our center on 72 occasions during the enrollment period; we excluded four patients due to study criteria. The one-year mortality hazard ratio of treated patients was 0.64, with a confidence interval of 0.31 to 1.19, with p = 0.169. Among the survivors, 32 of 35 patients answered the phone interview (14 patients in the treated group and 18 in the untreated group); overall, the effect of COVID-19 on quality of life was 58.14%. These effects were lower in the tocilizumab group, with p = 0.016 *. Conclusions: Our observational data follow the most relevant largest trial. Patients treated with tocilizumab had lower rates of new-onset symptoms later COVID-19 ICU hospitalizations. As reported by recent medical literature, the presence of these symptoms suggests that a follow-up program for these types of patients could be useful.

Background: The risk of post-operative infection still accounts for a high proportion among the patients. The peptidoglycan on Staphylococcus aureus promotes cellular invasiveness and adhesiveness of tumor cells by pathways activation, including NF-kB, STAT3 and Smad3. Methods: This study included 132 patients age ranging from 45–55 that have been diagnosed with IIA phase breast cancer based on the TNM classification system in one hospital located in the relatively high-income area. These patients have been scheduled the operations and are distributed into two groups: one group will be given certain dosage of antibiotics on presumed Staphylococcus aureus infections, and another group will not be given any unnecessary antibiotics before surgery. Results: We found that 6 patients present surgical site infection related Staphylococcus aureus, with 1 patient in the antibiotics group and the other 5 patients are in the non-antibiotics group. Within the one-year period after surgery, 4 patients presented with metastasis to adjacent lymph nodes, 3 patients are in the non-antibiotics group and another one in the antibiotics group. Conclusion: Early intervention could be an accessible method to decrease the incidence of surgical site infection, which has been illustrated in this study. We consider to take preventive dosage of antibiotics before surgery, which could improve the prognosis of breast cancer and their quality of life in a larger extent.
