The automotive industry is currently undergoing far-reaching structural changes. Automobile manufacturers are pursuing intensive scientific research and technological development in the field of alternative drive systems, such as electric powertrains. If electric car batteries are charged with regenerative generated electricity, their emission output is zero (from a well-to-wheel view). Furthermore, electric drives have very high efficiency. At cold temperatures, however, the battery power drops due to energy-intensive loads, such as the heating of the passenger compartment, and this consequently reduces the range dramatically. Therefore, the focus of this research work is external energy supply for the required heat capacity. The auxiliary energy may be generated by renewable energy technologies in order to further improve the CO2 balance of electric vehicles. The paper deals with the design, application, and testing of a biofuel-operated heater to heat the passenger compartment of a battery-powered electric car (a Renault ZOE R240). The practical use of the heating system is analyzed in several test drives, performed during winter 2018. The results as well as the range extension of the electric car that can be achieved by substituting the on-board heating system by the fuel-operated heater are quantified herein.

Novel textiles have received a lot of attention from researchers in the last decade due to some of their unique features. The introduction of intelligent materials into textile structures offers an opportunity to develop multifunctional textiles, such as sensing, reacting, conducting electricity and performing energy conversion operations. In this research work nanocomposite-based highly piezoelectric and electroactive β-phase new textile has been developed using the pad-dry-cure method. The deposition of poly (vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) − carbon nanofillers (CNF) − tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS), Si(OCH2CH3)4 was acquired on a treated textile substrate using coating technique followed by evaporation to transform the passive (non-functional) textile into a dynamic textile with an enhanced piezoelectric β-phase. The aim of the study is the investigation of the impact the coating of textile via piezoelectric nanocomposites based PVDF-CNF (by optimizing piezoelectric crystalline phase). The chemical composition of CT/PVDF-CNC-TEOS textile was detected by qualitative elemental analysis (SEM/EDX). The added of 0.5% of CNF during the process provides material textiles with a piezoelectric β-phase of up to 50% has been measured by FTIR experiments. These results indicated that CNF has high efficiency in transforming the phase α introduced in the unloaded PVDF, to the β-phase in the case of nanocomposites. Consequently, this fabricated new textile exhibits glorious piezoelectric β-phase even with relatively low coating content of PVDF-CNF-TEOS. The study demonstrates that the pad-dry-cure method can potentially be used for the development of piezoelectric nanocomposite-coated wearable new textiles for sensors and energy harvesting applications. We believe that our study may inspire the research area for future advanced applications.

UV-irradiation as an effective method of diminishing germs in the outlet of wastewater treatment plants was studied in a half-scale pilot-project sponsored by the State of Bavaria/BRD for a period of 3 years. Technical, physical and biological parameters capable of influencing this process were examined. The possibility to improve the hygienic and also the ecological structure of receiving waters was put to discussion. Possible effects of formed bypproducts upon the water biocoenosis of rivers were pointed out. The results demonstrated that UV-irradiation can diminish the number of germs in the outlet of a treatment plant to an extent which is sufficient to guarantee the maintenance of the bacteriological and presumably also the virological values set by the EC Bathing Water Directive. Nevertheless the UV-treatment process requires further technological development and research work concerning i.e. the improvement of hydraulic conditions, coat-forming on the quartz sleeves of the lamps, photochemical forming of by-products, after-growth and effects upon the localised benthic flora and fauna of the receiving water. It has to be stressed that a significant improvement of the bacteriological structure of flowing waters is only attainable, if the influx from non-point sources can be reduced simultaneously.

AbstractThe energy range between about 100 keV and 1 GeV is of interest for a vast class of astrophysical topics. In particular, (1) it is the missing ingredient for understanding extreme processes in the multi-messenger era; (2) it allows localizing cosmic-ray interactions with background material and radiation in the Universe, and spotting the reprocessing of these particles; (3) last but not least, gamma-ray emission lines trace the formation of elements in the Galaxy and beyond. In addition, studying the still largely unexplored MeV domain of astronomy would provide for a rich observatory science, including the study of compact objects, solar- and Earth-science, as well as fundamental physics. The technological development of silicon microstrip detectors makes it possible now to detect MeV photons in space with high efficiency and low background. During the last decade, a concept of detector (“ASTROGAM”) has been proposed to fulfil these goals, based on a silicon hodoscope, a 3D position-sensitive calorimeter, and an anticoincidence detector. In this paper we stress the importance of a medium size (M-class) space mission, dubbed “ASTROMEV”, to fulfil these objectives.

Raman spectroscopy is one of the main analytical techniques used in optical metrology. It is a vibration, marker-free technique that provides insight into the structure and composition of tissues and cells at the molecular level. Raman spectroscopy is an outstanding material identification technique. It provides spatial information of vibrations from complex biological samples which renders it a very accurate tool for the analysis of highly complex plant tissues. Raman spectra can be used as a fingerprint tool for a very wide range of compounds. Raman spectroscopy enables all the polymers that build the cell walls of plants to be tracked simultaneously; it facilitates the analysis of both the molecular composition and the molecular structure of cell walls. Due to its high sensitivity to even minute structural changes, this method is used for comparative tests. The introduction of new and improved Raman techniques by scientists as well as the constant technological development of the apparatus has resulted in an increased importance of Raman spectroscopy in the discovery and defining of tissues and the processes taking place in them.

Modern forming processes often allow today the efficient production of complex parts. In order to increase the sustainability of forming processes it would be favorable if the forming of workpieces becomes possible using production waste. At the Chair of Forming and Machining Technology of the Paderborn University (LUF) research is presently conducted with the overall goal to produce workpieces directly from secondary aluminum (e.g., powder and chips). Therefore, friction-based forming processes like friction spinning (or cognate processes) are used due to their high efficiency. As a pre-step, the production of semi-finished parts was the subject of accorded research work at the LUF. Therefore, a friction-based hot extrusion process was used for the full recycling or rework of aluminum chips into profiles. Investigations of the recycled semi-finished products show that they are comparable to conventionally produced semi-finished products in terms of dimensional stability and shape accuracy. An analysis of the mechanical properties of hardness and tensile strength shows that a final product with good and homogeneously distributed properties can be produced. Furthermore, significant correlations to the friction spinning process could be found that are useful for the above-mentioned direct part production from secondary aluminum.

Today’s car is one of the most important things in everyone’s life .Every person wants to have his or her own car but the question that arises in each buyer’s mind is whether the vehicle is safe enough to spend so much of money so it is the responsibility of an mechanical engineer to make the vehical comfortable and at the Same time safer. Now a days automakers are coming with various energy absorbing devices such as crush box, door beams etc. this energy absorbing device s prove to be very useful in reducing the amount force that is being transmitted to the occupant. In this we are using impact energy absorber in efficient manner as compare to earlier. The various steps involved in this project starting from developing the cad model of this inner impact energy absorber using the CAD software CATIA V5 R19. Then pre-processing is carried out in HYPERMESH 11.0 which includes assigning material, properties, boundary conditions such as contacts, constraints etc. LS-DYNA971 is used as a solver and LS-POST is used for the post processing and results obtained are compared to the standards. By carrying out this idea it has been observed that there is a considerable amount of energy that is being absorbed by this energy-absorbing device. Along with this energy absorption, the intrusion in passenger compartment is also reduced by considerable amount. So for safer and comfortable car with inner impact energy absorber is one of the best options available. This will get implement by this research work.

At the present stage of technological development, where low labor intensity are highly valued, high efficiency and representativeness of measurements, a convenient means of storing and processing information, the infrared (IR) thermometry recaptures more and more space. The exact definition of the concrete temperature (with an error of 1 °C or less, usually defined by the sensor) is extremely complicated: Instrumental errors superimposed on the error measurement method used, on the errors associated with the arrangement of the measurement sites, etc. In relative terms, the rates of heating-cooling, in the absolute, the range of allowed temperatures when exposed concrete such accuracy looks obviously excessive and unjustified technically and economically. Considering the IR technique as a means postroechnyh control the concrete temperature, and when performing measurements using its implementation should be tailored to suit the IR measurements and factors that can lead to significant measurement errors. Since these factors can greatly affect the measurement result. Reliability indirect MOTB (method of determining the temperature of the concrete) with pyrometers is achieved by using the calculated accurate according to a certain type of decks and compliance with the measurement rules to ensure the work of this relationship within the allowable range of accuracy.
