The purpose of the article is an external evaluation of the advantages and disadvantages of the primary school students’ self-management skills and teachers’ self-management skills during the distance learning time of pandemic-2020. The emergency transition to distance learning has caused difficulties in teaching and learning. Probably these difficulties are due to the insufficient level of students’ and teachers’ self-management skills. Data includes the results of two empirical studies carried out by the Perm State Humanitarian Pedagogical University. First, results of diagnostics of the primary school students’ self-management skills in 2018–2021 years. Students of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th grades of Perm region schools participated in the diagnosis. Criterion-oriented diagnostics based on everyday situations in the logic of functional literacy assessment. Secondly, primary school teacher’s self-assessment of the problems of organizing distance learning during the pandemic-2020. A focus group of 79 primary school teachers took part in the semi-structured Internet survey. The results of the study show that primary school teachers were not ready for distance teaching. The teachers’ work time has increased, caused by mastering distance tools and new conditions for self-regulation. The need of special attention for self-management students’ skills was identified. Certain students’ self-management skills were important for distance learning, such as planning, self-control and self-esteem, the choice of effective methods of action. The teacher’ training also is required to be focused on assessment skills, applying of automated control tools, developing of students’ self- and peer- assessment skills in a digital environment. Based on the results of an external evaluation, the authors suggest developing the primary school teachers’ professional competencies.

The research aimed for identifying the extent of the reality of the use of mathematics teachers for the third grade of learning styles in teaching multiplication and division tables and its impact on the quality of distance learning from their point of view. The sample consisted of (250) male and female primary school teachers, and the sample was randomly chosen. The questionnaire was distributed electronically after confirming its validity and reliability. The results of the research indicated that the increase in the efficiency of the teacher in using learning styles in teaching the multiplication and division tables for the third grade by one unit will lead to an increase in the quality of distance learning by (0.714). There are also statistically significant differences among the arithmetic averages of mathematics teachers ’responses in Marka basic schools because of the importance of applying learning styles used in distance learning due to experience variable. While there are no statistically significant differences between the averages of mathematics teachers ’responses in Marka basic schools because of the importance of applying learning styles used in distance learning due to the educational qualification. The researcher recommended the necessity of promoting the idea of applying learning styles to the third-grade teachers in distance learning for mathematics especially in teaching multiplication and division tables for their importance in all educational stages.

Changing the learning system during the pandemic period from offline to online requires teachers' readiness, including elementary school teachers. Demands for mastery of technology in learning and the characteristics of elementary school students who need direct guidance in learning are teachers' problems. However, not all primary school teachers are ready for technology-based online learning. This study aims to investigate the readiness of primary school teachers in online learning in terms of three aspects, namely cognitive (knowledge and perception), affective (emotional condition), and moral (skills). The research method uses a mixed-method with data collection techniques using a questionnaire deepened by interviews. The research respondents were 22 elementary school teachers in Tlekung village, Junrejo district, Batu City. Data analysis used descriptive statistical analysis and qualitative analysis. The results showed that the teacher had a low readiness to carry out online learning in general. The level of primary school teachers' readiness to carry out online learning still needs to be improved, especially in the knowledge and skills factor by providing online learning training experiences.

The methods of mathematical data processing and the software package for statistical analysis “Statistica” were used for the analysis of the obtained results and objective consideration of the dynamics of changes in the activity, cognitive and motivational components. The study showed the effectiveness of interactive methods in the distance learning system for the development of all components of the readiness of future primary school teachers to use pedagogical technologies. The author concluded that the most effective methods in the context of professional training of future primary school teachers and adaptation to the features of distance online learning are: microphone, unfinished sentences, brain storm, role play, case method, discussion, take a position, work in pairs, work in threes and small groups.

The Ranau Earthquake that struck on 5 June 2015, February 2018, and April 2021, were a new disaster in Sabah and caused many Sabahan to panic. The unpredicted disaster also caused a serious impact on all aspects of life in Sabah. The earthquake has caused severe damage to eight primary schools in the vicinity of the epicenter, although no casualties were reported. However, the disaster has deep passing psychological effects among students. In this study, we examine how the primary school teachers enabled the student to be resilient during and after the disaster. Based on the interviews with 16 primary school students, it was revealed that most of the teachers used WhatsApp to support resilience during and after the earthquake. Interviews with 16 primary school teachers revealed there were two main reasons for them to communicate with students, namely, delivering emotional aid and monitoring their stress. Based on student interviews, five content categories of emotional support were identified: caring, reassuring, emotion sharing, belonging, and distracting. In the Covid-19 pandemic, distance learning is used as a method of teaching rather than learning methodologies. This research aims to investigate the implementation of distance learning through WhatsApp Group (WAG) at Private Madrasah Ibtidaiyah in Bambel Kutacane, Southeast Aceh. This research uses a qualitative approach and gathered data by conducting in-depth interviews and documentation studies (field studies). The result of the research showed that distance learning carried out by madrasah using WAG is practised in three aspects, namely (1) learning, (2) assignment and (3) assessment. Even so, socialisation and debriefing are still needed for teachers to operate online learning effectively and efficiently, both through training organised by external and internal madrasas as well as the willingness of teachers to learn self-taught.

The teaching of reading is not as easy as it may seem. It requires specific knowledge and the use of reading methods by teachers. Learners’ reading needs and learning styles also have to be considered. According to the Progress in International Reading Literacy (PIRLS) results for 2016, the reading abilities of South African learners are far below the international standard as set out by PIRLS. There is a lack of research about the strategies and methods that primary school teachers use to teach reading. In this article, the feedback regarding reading methods – gathered from 36 primary school teachers in three provinces – is discussed. The data revealed that most of the Grade 1 to 7 teachers who participated in the research knew and used some of the six reading methods under discussion. However, the results did not indicate how well the teachers applied these methods and how versatile they were in using the different reading methods. The data revealed that Foundation phase teachers used some of the methods statistically significantly more often than the comparison group of Intermediate phase teachers in a nonexperimental static-group observational design study. According to Spaull (McBride 2019:1), a well-known researcher in South Africa, one of the three main reasons why Foundation phase readers are struggling with reading is that their teachers do not know how to teach reading systematically. Teachers do not know how to change and adapt the methods that they use to teach reading and not enough research has been done to address the problems with the teaching of reading in the classroom specifically. Often the reading problems experienced in the Foundation phase are carried over to the Intermediate phase.
