This action research attempts to improve teacher’s classroom teaching in developing pupils’ ability to construct simple sentences. Jazz chanting was adapted to teach writing skills and was used as the intervention. This research aimed to describe the extent the use of jazz chants was able to develop Year 3 pupils’ ability to construct simple sentences effectively. Three research participants were chosen among year 3 pupils. The participants were purposefully identified as they had encountered difficulties in constructing simple sentences. Three lessons to exploit the intervention were conducted in this research. The data collection methods that were used in this research to gain insights into the effectiveness of the teacher’s teaching strategy were document analysis consisting of worksheets and a pre-test and a post-test, observation and a semi-structured interview with the participants. The research findings revealed that the teaching with the use of the intervention, jazz chanting, was able to positively impact two participants in constructing simple sentences effectively.Meanwhile, triangulation of the various data also indicated that the teaching aided by the intervention failed to have the expected impact on one participant. Discussion of the research findings and conclusion had highlighted the researcher’s pertinent reflection and suggestions for further improvement on the intervention and for future research.

ABSTRACT A newborn baby is a god's divine precious gift given to a mother. Nurses play very crucial role in prevention of newborn hypothermia during the hospitalization of newborn in NICU. To evaluate the effectiveness of PTP on prevention of hypothermia in newborn among mothers was the main objective of the present study. One group pretest, post-test design (pre-experimental) was used. 30 postnatal mothers were selected by nonprobability sampling and pretest questionnaire was administered through structured interview schedule. After PTP 7 days after posttest was conducted on same group. Results were analysed by ‘t’ test. The results revealed that there was statistically significant association between knowledge of mothers and age and religion, and remaining three variables there was no statistical significant association (p < 0.05). The PTP was the best teaching strategy as it enhance the knowledge on prevention of hypothermia.

This study examined the transfer of ownership and preservation of the anti-apartheid movement (AAM) archives. The purpose of the paper is to present empirical research findings regarding the compliance of the African National Congress (ANC) with principles of ownership and preservation during the digitisation of liberation archives. The research grounding this paper used a qualitative method that allowed the triangulation of data collection methods. Interview data were augmented through interviews, document analysis and observation. The findings revealed the ANC’s non-compliance with some of the principles of ownership during the digitisation of liberation archives. The unauthorised digitisation of some of the AAM liberation archives has created a legal dispute relating to ownership. The study concludes that organisations which embark on a digitisation project, must adhere to the principles of ownership. Furthermore, the successful implementation of digitisation requires collaboration and partnerships between project owners and technological companies.

Learning with technology has become essential in today’s education not only in Thailand but also all around the world. Technology has been an important tool for improving language learners’ reading writing, speaking, and listening for quite some time. Writing, however, has been one of the most supported skills thanks to technology. Learning how to write paragraphs or essays is an essential skill for learners. The purposes of this quasi-experimental study were: 1) to examine the effectiveness of the e-Writing instructional design program in developing the writing skills of EFL learners, 2) to explore learners’ satisfaction and motivation toward the e-Writing instructional design program, and 3) to study learners’ autonomy after completing the e-Writing instructional design program. This study employed the purposive sampling method to select 33 second-year learners. Lesson plans, e-writing programs, learner perception questionnaires, interviews, as well as a pre and post-test were the tools used to gather relevant data. A t-test with standard and average deviation was used to investigate the quantitative data. Interview data were analyzed using content analysis. The quantitative findings revealed that the writing achievement level of the learners before and after receiving the treatment was significantly different at 0.001. The learners’ post-test scores of 33 learners increased over the pre-test scores. From the questionnaire results, the satisfaction level of undergraduate learners toward the instruction of this course had average scores of 4.34 which was an excellent level. Furthermore, interviews revealed that learners are satisfied with the e-Writing instructional design program because this could improve learners’ writing skills and promote more learner autonomy. Recommendations are made and presented in terms of future practical application and future research needs to be done to analyze results and the effects of future outcomes.

Research findings have shown that student-led conferences have a positive effect on helping students acquire 21st century skills, and confirm that this is an important process for student development. In the future research, it can be focused on the effects of these student-led conferences on student achievement. The effects of the portfolio presentations made by the students at the conferences and the planning they made about learning goals at the conferences on their academic success in the long term can be investigated.

Narrative writing in ESL classrooms is usually seen as a complex process. However, the need to help the pupils to produce a narrative essay is becoming crucial as it is a part of the UPSR examination (Primary School Evaluation Test), which carries a very high weight-age of marks for that particular session. Therefore, Digital Storytelling used as a tool to help pupils to produce better narratives. This study reports quasiexperimental research on the use of Digital Storytelling in teaching plot development in narrative writing for year-4 pupils in an urban primary school. 30 pupils were chosen using purposive sampling in a school in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. A pre-test of narrative writing was administered to evaluate the participants’ writing skills. The quasi-experimental research design was used to conduct this study. The participants were separated into two different groups: one experimental group and one control group. The participants of the experimental group used Digital Storytelling, focusing on plot development to produce a narrative text while the control group received a conventional method of teaching narrative writing. Finally, all the participants answered a post-test of producing narrative writing. Besides pre-test and post-test, the data was qualitatively gathered using Feedback Form, Semi-structured Interview of 4 participants, and Document Analysis of the narrative text produced. This effective, innovative strategy can be used to develop pupils’ narrative writing skills on many levels besides year-4 pupils.

The aim of this study is to examine the effect of classroom debate activities on the argumentativeness of Turkish language teacher candidates. The study group of the research consists of 29 freshman students in the Turkish Language Teaching program. Designed in mixed method, in this study Argumentativeness Scale and Semi-Structured Interview Form were used as data collection tools. The application process of the study took a total five weeks. For the analysis of the quantitative data which was obtained through the Argumentativeness Scale, the pre and post-test scores were compared using the t-test. However, at the end of the application, the opinions of the students were taken through the semi-structured interview form and these data were analyzed using the content analysis technique. As a result of the research, it was determined that there is a significant difference between the argumentativeness pre-test scores and post-test scores of the study group. The findings obtained from the interviews also confirmed that there is a difference in the argumentativeness of the teacher candidates. As a result, it was seen that classroom debate activities carried out in accordance with the rules can motivate prospective teachers to do discussions and reduce their anxiety and fear of discussions. In addition to this, according to the findings, debate activities encourage students to do research, create a competitive environment in the classroom and ensure active participation in the lessons. In line with the research results, suggestions for classroom discussion practices and suggestions for future research have been presented.
