DETERMINANTS OF SHARIA BANKING PROFITABILITY: Empirical Studies in Indonesia 2011-2020

This study aims to examine the effect of sharia banking characteristics such as Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR), Financing to Deposit Ratio (FDR), Non Performing Financing (NPF), Operating Expenses to Operations Revenue (BOPO) on Return on Assets (ROA). The data used in this study are secondary data obtained from Sharia Banking Statistics published by the Financial Services Authority (OJK) with Purposive Sampling Techniques in 14 Sharia Banks in Indonesia for the period 2011-2020. The analysis technique used is multiple linear regression. The analysis shows that the CAR, NPF, BOPO variables significantly influence ROA, but FDR has no effect on ROA. The predictive ability of 4 independent variables (CAR, FDR, NPF and BOPO) to the dependent variable (ROA) is 86.5%, while 13.5% is influenced by other variables not mentioned in this study.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji pengaruh karakteristik perbankan syariah seperti Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR), Financing to Deposit Ratio (FDR), Non Performing Financing (NPF), Operating Expenses to Operations Revenue (BOPO) terhadap Return on Asset (ROA). Data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah data sekunder yang diperoleh dari Statistik Perbankan Syariah yang dipublikasikan oleh Otoritas Jasa Keuangan (OJK) dengan Teknik Purposive Sampling di 14 Bank Syariah di Indonesia periode 2011-2020. Teknik analisis yang digunakan adalah regresi linier berganda. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa variabel CAR, NPF, BOPO secara berpengaruh signifikan  terhadap ROA, tetapi FDR tidak berpengaruh terhadap ROA. Kemampuan prediksi 4 variabel independen (CAR, FDR, NPF dan BOPO) terhadap variabel dependen (ROA) adalah 86,5%, sedangkan 13,5% dipengaruhi oleh variabel lain yang tidak disebutkan dalam penelitian ini.

Banking companies, including Islamic banking, need to avoid problems that can cause financial failure, which can make the bank unable to carry out its business operations and may end up in bankruptcy, so that the level of soundness of the bank based on risk must always be monitored. Therefore, banks must maintain their financial ratios in accordance with Bank Indonesia decisions and maintain their performance. So analyzing the effect of the Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR), Financing to Deposit Ratio (FDR), and the Ratio of Operating Costs to Operating Income (BOPO) on Return On Assets (ROA) in Islamic Banks is considered very important.   This study aims to analyze the effect of Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR), Financing to Deposit Ratio (FDR), and Operational Costs on Operating Income (BOPO) on Return On Assets (ROA) at Islamic Commercial Banks in Indonesia. This research includes quantitative research and the type of data used is secondary data. The data used in this study is the ratio of CAR, FDR, BOPO, and ROA for the period 2014–2019 which was obtained from the annual Financial Statements on the official website of each bank.   The population in this study were 14 Islamic Commercial Banks in Indonesia. After passing the purposive sampling stage, there were 6 samples of Sharia Commercial Banks that were suitable for use, namely BCA Syariah, BNI Syariah, Bank Mega Syariah, Bank Muamalat Indonesia, Bank Panin Dubai Syariah and BRI Syariah. The analytical method used in this research is Multiple Linear Regression Analysis.   The results of the partial study with the t-test showed that the CAR and FDR variables had a positive and significant effect on the ROA of Islamic commercial banks. While the BOPO variable has a negative and significant effect on the ROA of Islamic commercial banks. And the results of the f test show that the CAR, FDR, and BOPO variables together have a significant influence on the ROA of Islamic commercial banks. The predictive ability of these three variables on ROA is 82.7%, the remaining 17.3% is explained by other variables outside of this research.   Keywords: Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR), Financing to Deposit Ratio (FDR), Operating Expenses per Operating Income (BOPO), Return On Assets (ROA)

This study aims to determine how the influence of Loan to Deposit Ratio, Capital Adequacy Ratio and Non Performing Loans on Banking Profitability Listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) that occurs at PT Bank Central Asia Tbk, PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, PT Bank Mandiri (Persero) Tbk, PT Bank CIMB Niaga Tbk, PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, PT Bank Tabungan Negara (Persero) in 2014-2018. The data used in this study are quantitative data with secondary data sources derived from the financial statements of each bank. This research uses descriptive statistical analysis methods, inference analysis, classic assumption test, multiple linear analysis and coefficient of determination. Regression analysis is used to find out how the influence of independent variables on the dependent variable with a significance value of 5 percent. While the determination coefficient analysis is used to determine the relationship between the independent variable and the dependent variable. From the partial hypothesis test (T Test) that has been done by the author, it is obtained that the Loan to Deposit Ratio affects Return On Assets, Capital Adequacy Ratio has no effect on Return On Assets and Non Performing Loans has no effect on Return On Assets. For simultaneous hypothesis testing (Test F), the results obtained are that the independent variables namely Loan to Deposit Ratio, Capital Adequacy Ratio and Non Performing Loans simultaneously influence the Return on Assets.   Key words :     Loan to Deposit Ratio (LDR), Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR), Non Performing Loan (NPL), Return On Asset (ROA).

This study aims to model the factors that affect the financial performance of Bank Muammalat, including Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR), Earning Asset Quality (KAP), Operational Expenses to Operating Income (BOPO), and Financing to Deposit Ratio (FDR) to Return on Assets. (ROA) This research uses secondary data taken based on time series. The analysis technique in this study uses multiple linear regression using SPSS software version 20 and Microsoft Office Excel 2010. The results of this study indicate that partially the CAR and KAP partially do not have a significant effect on Return On. Assets, while Operational Expenses to BOPO and FDR partially have a significant effect on Return on Assets. Simultaneously, these four variables have a significant effect on Return on Assets at PT Bank Muamalat Indonesia. Based on the results of the Determination Coefficient test, the value of Adjusted R Square (R2) is 99.00%, this means that the amount of Return on Assets can be influenced and explained by the variables CAR, KAP, BOPO, and FDR, while the remaining 1% is explained by variables not examined in this study.

The goal of this research is to look into the impact of Operating Costs on Operating Income (BOPO) and Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR) on the Financial Performance of Islamic Commercial Banks, which is measured using one of the profitability ratio indicators, Return on Assets (ROA). This study employs a quantitative approach by employing explanatory research, which tries to examine the theories and hypotheses that exist in this study in order to determine whether they strengthen or weaken earlier theories and hypotheses. The study relied on secondary data, specifically information gathered from the ojk.ac.id website. This research uses monthly time series data from the Financial Services Authority from 2019 to 2021, with a sample size of 26 months. Multiple linear regression and moderated regression analysis were employed in this study's regression model (MRA). The findings of this study revealed that BOPO had a considerable impact on ROA, although CAR had no such impact, and that NPF, as a moderating variable, was able to moderate the impact of BOPO and CAR on ROA.

Abstrak. Penelitian ini diharapkan berpengaruh terhadap Financing to Deposit Ratio (FDR), Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR), Biaya Operasional Pendapatan Operasional (BOPO) terhadap Return on Asset (ROA) sebagai proksi Kinerja Keuangan perbankan syariah di Indonesia periode 2014- 2016. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah 11 bank syariah di Indonesia yang terdaftar di Bursa Efek Indonesia untuk periode tahun 2014-2016, dan sampel diperoleh sebanyak 33 bentuk 11 bank dan 3 periode keuangan repo 2014-2016 dengan purposive sampling. Metode Analisis data menggunakan regresi linier berganda dengan Software SPSS versi 16.0 Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa variabel FDR dan CAR tidak berpengaruh signifikan terhadap ROA, sedangkan variabel BOPO memiliki pengaruh signifikan terhadap ROA. Kemampuan prediktif dari ketiga variabel pada ROA sebesar 72,3%, sedangkan sisanya dipengaruhi oleh faktor lain yang tidak termasuk dalam model riset.Kata kunci: Financial Performance, Return on Assets, Financing to Deposit Ratio, Capital Adequacy Ratio, BOPO Abstract. This study aims to analyze the effect of Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR), Operational Costs on Operating Income (BOPO), Non Performing Financing (NPF) and Financing to Deposit Ratio (FDR) to Profitability with Return on Assets (ROA) in Indonesian Commercial Banks . The population in this study were 13 Sharia Commercial Banks in Indonesia registered in the Financial Services Authority and Bank Indonesia from 2013-2017, with a total sample of 6 Islamic Commercial Banks. The analytical method used is descriptive statistics, classic assumption tests, and multiple linear regression for hypothesis testing. The results showed partially that the Operational Cost of Operational Income had a significant negative effect on Return on Assets, while the Capital Adequacy Ratio, Non Performing Financing and Financing to Deposit Ratio did not affect Return on Assets of Islamic Commercial Banks in Indonesia. Simultaneously, the Capital Adequacy Ratio, Operational Cost to Operaional Revenue, Non Performing Financing and Financing to Deposit Ratio have a significant effect on Return on Assets of Islamic Commercial Banks in Indonesia. The predictive ability of the four variables on Return on Assets is 82%, while the remaining 18% is influenced by other factors outside of this research model.

The objective of this research is to analyze the effect of third party fund, capital adequacy ratio, and loan to deposit ratio on bank’s profitability after the application of IFRS. The bank’s profitability in this study is measured using return on assets (ROA). The samples used are 22 conventional commercial banking companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange in the period from 2012 to 2013, which are selected through purposive sam-pling method. The analysis technique used is multiple linear regression analysis. The results of this study indicate that: (1) the variables of third party funds (TPF), capital adequacy ratio (CAR), and loan to deposit ratio (LDR) simultaneously have significant effect on return on assets (ROA); (2) the variable of third party fund (TPF) partially has positive but not significant effect on return on assets (ROA); (3) the variable of capital adequacy ratio (CAR) partially has positive and significant effect on return on assets (ROA); (4) the variable of loan to deposit ratio (LDR) partially has positive but not sig-nificant effect on return on assets (ROA) in conventional commercial banking companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (after the implementation of IFRS. The ability of the independent variables to explain the dependent variable in this study is 17.8%, while the remaining 82.2% is explained by other variables outside the models studied.

Abstract: This research was conducted to determine the determinants of profitability on Sharia Commercial Bank after the transfer of banking supervision duties from Bank Indonesia to the Otoritas Jasa Keuangan. The data used in this research are secondary data obtained from Islamic Banking Statistics published by the Otoritas Jasa Keuangan and Bank Indonesia.The analysis technique used is multiple linear regression using the classic assumption test first.The results of the analysis show that the regression equation used has passed the classic assumption test. This research proves that partially, only the Operational Expenses to Operational Revenue variables that affect Return on Assets of Islamic Commercial Banks in Indonesia for the 2015-2018 Period,while the variable Capital Adequacy Ratio and Inflation did not affect Return on Assets of Sharia Commercial Banks in Indonesia for the 2015-2018 period. And simultaneously the three variables have an effect on Return on Assets of Islamic Commercial Banks in Indonesia for the 2015-2018 Period. الملخص: تم إجراء هذا البحث لتحديد محددات ربحية البنك الاسلامي التجاري بعد انتقال مهام الإشراف المصرفي من بنك إندونسيا إلى هيئة الخدمات المالية البيانات المستخدمة في هذه الدراسة هي بيانات ثانوية تم الحصول عليها من إحصاءات المصرفية الإسلامية التي نشرتها هيئة الخدمات المالية وبنك أندونيسيا. الطريقة التحليلية المستخدمة هي الانحدار الخطي المتعدد باستخدام اختبار الافتراض الكلاسيكي أولاً. توضح نتائج التحليل أن معادلة الانحدار المستخدمة اجتازت اختبار الافتراض الكلاسيكي. تثبت هذه الدراسة أن جزئية،المصروفات التشغيلية لمتغير الإيرادات التشغيلية التي تؤثر على العائد على موجودات البنوك التجارية الإسلامية في إندونيسيا للفترة 2015-2018 ، أن متغير نسبة كفاية رأس المال والتضخم لا يؤثر على العائد على الأصول البنوك الإسلامية في إندونيسيا فترة 2015-2018.في وقت واحد, المتغيرات الثلاثة العائد على الأصول تأثير المصارف الإسلامية في إندونيسيا فترة 2015-2018Abtrak: Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui faktor penentu profitabilitas Bank Umum Syariah pasca peralihan tugas pengawasan perbankan dari Bank Indonesia ke Otoritas Jasa Keuangan. Data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah data sekunder yang diperoleh dari Statistik Perbankan Syariah yang dipublikasikan oleh Otoritas Jasa Keuangan dan Bank Indonesia. Teknik analisis yang digunakan adalah regresi linier berganda dengan menggunakan uji asumsi klasik terlebih dahulu. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa persamaan regresi yang digunakan telah lolos uji asumsi klasik. Penelitian ini membuktikan bahwa secara parsial, hanya variabel Operational Expenses to Operational Revenue yang berpengaruh terhadap Return on Asset Bank Umum Syariah di Indonesia Periode 2015-2018, sementara variabel Capital Adequacy Ratio dan Inflasi tidak berpengaruh terhadap Return on Asset Bank Umum Syariah di Indonesia Periode 2015-2018. Dan secara simultan ketiga variabel tersebut Berpengaruh terhadap Return on Asset Bank Umum Syariah di Indonesia Periode 2015-2018.

The purpose of this study was to determine whether the level of People's Business Credit distribution, non-performing loans, Bank Indonesia interest rates and CAR can affect the level of profitability (Return On Asset) of PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, this study using secondary data sourced from the quarterly financial statements in the period 2010-2017. In managing the data that is owned, the author uses the SPSS version 20 data processing application. The data analysis technique used is multiple linear regression and to test the hypotheses of this study using t-statistical tests to test hypotheses partially and f-statistical tests to test hypothetically simultaneous. From the results of the tests that have been carried out in the Business Credit distribution, the interest rates of Bank Indonesia and CAR do not partially affect Return On Assets, while the non-performing loans affect Return On Assets. Simultaneously, the variable of People's Business Credit distribution, non-performing loans, Bank Indonesia interest rates and CAR has an effect on Return On Asset of 71.4 percent and the other is influenced by variables other than those studied. This study aimed to examine the effect of the Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR) , Non Performing Financing (NPF) , Net Operating Margin (NOM) , Financing to Deposit Ratio (FDR) , BOPO and DPK against return on Assets ( ROA) as a proxy of the financial performance of Islamic Banks in Indonesia from 2008 to 2012 . The population in this study was 11 Islamic Banks in Indonesia . The analysis technique used in this study is a multiple linear regression . While the classical assumption used in this study include autocorrelation test , normality test, multikolonieritas , and heteroscedasticity test .The results showed that the variable CAR and DPK positive and significant impact on ROA Islamic Banks . While BOPO variable is negative and significant effect on ROA Islamic Banks . NPF variables , NOM , and FDR negative effect on ROA , but not significantly . Predictive ability of the six variables on ROA of 86.0 % , while the rest is influenced by other factors not included in the research model . The results of this study are expected to provide guidelines for the management of Islamic Banks in managing the company.
