Abstract Background: Pancreatic cancer (PC) is a serious disease with high mortality. The tumor microenvironment plays a key role in the occurrence and development of PC. The purpose of this study is to analyze the trends by year, country, institution, journal, and keywords in publications on the PC microenvironment and to predict the future hotspots.Methods: The Web of Science Core Collection was used to search for and download publications. We analyzed the contributions of various countries/regions, institutes, and authors and discerned the research hotspots and promising future trends by using the CiteSpace and VOSviewer programs. We also summarized relevant completed clinical trials.Results: A total of 1,766 papers on the PC microenvironment published between 2010 and 2020 were included in the study. The average number of citations per article was 28.7. The United States had the most publications, followed by China, and a total of five influential articles were identified through co-citation analysis. Clustering analysis revealed three clusters of keywords: carcinogenesis of PC, stroma of PC, and therapy of PC. The research hotspots included cancer-associated fibroblasts, exosomes, FOLFIRINOX [FOL – folinic acid (also called leucovorin, calcium folinate, or FA), F – fluorouracil (also called 5-FU), Irin – irinotecan, Ox – oxaliplatin], and immunotherapy.Conclusion: The number of publications and the research enthusiasm generally showed an upward trend, and the United States has made prominent contributions to the field of the tumor microenvironment of PC. The current research hotspots are mainly cancer-associated fibroblasts, exosomes, and the treatment of pancreatic cancer, which might be the directions of future research.

BACKGROUND Smartphones have become an integral part of our lives with their unprecedented popularity and diversification of applications. The continuous upgrading of information technology has also enabled smartphones to display great potential in the field of healthcare. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to clarify the future research direction of mHealth by analyzing its research trends and latest research hotspots. METHODS This study collected mHealth-related literature published between 2000 and 2020 from the Web of Science database. Descriptive statistics of the literature were computed using Excel software. The publication trends of mHealth research were determined by analyzing the annual number of publications in the literature and annual number of publications categorized based on different countries. Finally, this study used the VOSviewer tool to construct visualization network maps of country/region collaborations and author keyword co-occurrences, and overlay visualization maps of the average publication year of author keywords to analyze the hotspots and research trends in mHealth research. RESULTS In this study, 12,593 mHealth-related research articles published between 2000 and 2020 were collected. The results showed an exponential growth trend in the number of annual publications in mHealth literature. The United States remained the leading contributor to the literature in this area (5,294/12,593, 42%), well ahead of other countries/regions. Other countries/regions also showed a clear trend of annual increases in the number of publications in mHealth literature. Regarding cooperation between countries, the four countries with the largest number of publications, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia, were found to cooperate more closely. The rest of the countries/regions showed a clear geographical pattern of cooperation. The keyword co-occurrence analysis of the top 100 authors formed five clusters, namely: development of mHealth medical technology and its application in various diseases, use of mHealth technology to improve basic public health and health policy, mHealth self-health testing and management in daily life, adolescent use of mHealth, and mHealth in mental health. The research trends revealed a gradual shift in mHealth research from health policy and improving public healthcare to the development and social application of mHealth technologies. CONCLUSIONS To the best of our knowledge, the most current bibliometric analysis dates back to 2016. However, the number of mHealth researches published between 2017 and 2020 exceeds the previous total. Therefore, the results of this study shed light on the latest research hotspots and research trends in mHealth research. These findings provide a useful overview of the development of the field; they may also serve as a valuable reference and provide guidance for other researchers in the field.

Abstract Background: Nerve block is used as a clinical technique for relieving pain during the surgical period as well as in postoperative analgesia and chronic pain. Although great progress has been recently made regarding nerve block techniques, there is still room for further medical and technical improvement. Here, we analysed the trends in nerve block research and compared contributions from different countries, institutions, journals, and authors. Methods: We extracted all studies concerning nerve block published between 1997 and 2021 from the Web of Science database. Microsoft Excel and VOSviewer were employed to collect publication data, analyse publication trends, and visualize relevant results. Results: A total of 6,437 publications with 111,612 citations were identified between 1997 and 2021. The United States contributed the greatest number of publications (2010), whereas China ranked second (518). The Regional Anesthesia & Pain Medicine journal had published the most papers concerning nerve block. Harvard University and Mariano ER were the most productive institution and author, respectively, in the field. Keywords were categorized into five clusters: the association between nerve block and anaesthesia or analgesia, local anaesthetic drugs for nerve block, nerve block techniques, nerve block for postoperative analgesia, and nerve block for oral local anaesthesia. Management-related research was a heavily researched topic in the field. Conclusions: We concluded that the United States contributed the most studies, and developing countries, led by China, are also encouraging study in this area. The exploration of new drugs in the fields of nerve block, multi-modal analgesia after surgery, treatment of chronic pain, analgesia for thoracic and abdominal surgeries, and analgesic interventions in oral therapy is considered as a potential focus for future research.

Background: Retinoblastoma is the most common primary intraocular malignancy of childhood. Despite high survival and eye salvage as the result of various types of therapies, retinoblastoma remains a disease that places a considerable burden on developing countries. Our study attempted to analyse the research trends in retinoblastoma research and compare contributions from different countries, institutions, journals, and authors.Methods: We extracted all publications concerning retinoblastoma from 2001 to 2021 from the Web of Science database. Microsoft Excel and VOSviewer were employed to collect publication data, analyse publication trends, and visualize relevant results.Results: A total of 1,675 publications with 30,148 citations were identified. The United States contributed the most publications (643) and citations (16,931 times) with the highest H-index value (67) as of February 4, 2021. China ranked second in the number of publications (259), while ranking fourth in both citations (2,632 times) and the H-index (26) ranked fourth. The British Journal of Ophthalmology was the most productive journal concerning retinoblastoma, and Abramson DH had published the most papers in the field. Keywords were categorized into three clusters; tumor-related research, clinical research, and management-related research. The keywords “intravitreal,” “intraarterial,” and “intravenous” appeared the most frequently, with the average appearing year being 2018.1, 2017.7, and 2017.1, respectively. Management-related research has been recognized as a heavily researched topic in the field.Conclusion: We conclude that the United States, China, and India made the most exceptional contributions in the field of retinoblastoma research, while China still has a disparity between the quantity and quality of publications. Management-related research, including intravitreal, intraarterial, and intravenous chemotherapy was considered as a potential focus for future research.

Research on the field of nanomaterials in environment has continued to be a major area of interest in recent years. To present the up-to-date progress in this field, a bibliometric study is conducted to analyze 7087 related publications in the Science Citation Index (SCI) core collection of Web of Science based on the expanded SCI. These publications are identified through using representative keywords in the research directions environment of the Web of Science. This study finds that China and the United States dominate the field; one difference between them is that China issued more independent publications and the United States issued more cooperative publications. In addition, the number of the related publications in Asian countries has exceeded that of European and American ones. A Chinese institution, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, has an absolute dominance in this field. Traditional high-impact environmental journals have ruled this field. The number of publications in the Energy and Environmental Science field has gradually decreased. In addition, a co-citation analysis shows that previous studies in this field can be divided into four major branches, and that graphene oxide and nano-inorganic particles are increasingly becoming research hotspots.

Background: Intertrochanteric femur fractures, which are common geriatric osteoporotic fractures, have imposed a huge economic and social burden. This study clarified the global status of research on intertrochanteric fractures between 2001 and 2020 and predicted future research trends in this field using bibliometric and visualized studies.Methods: Publications related to intertrochanteric fractures were retrieved from the Web of Science (WoS) database. All studies were published between 2001 and 2020. Bibliometric and co-occurrence analyses were conducted using VoS viewer software.Results: In total, 2,632 studies were retrieved. The number of global publications regarding intertrochanteric fractures increased annually. The United States was the largest contributor, ranking first in total publications, citations, and the H-index. Switzerland had the highest average citation frequency among the 10 countries with the highest number of publications. The journal that published the most articles regarding intertrochanteric fractures was the Injury International Journal of The Care of The Injured, with 290 articles published. This journal also ranked first in the citation frequency. MJ Parker, an author, published the most papers in the field, and the University of California research team at San Francisco contributed the most publications in this field. During the co-occurrence analysis, all keywords were divided into four clusters: internal fixation study, complication study, risk-factor study, and survival and prognosis analysis study. The internal fixation and survival and prognosis analysis studies were predicted as the next hot topics in the field of intertrochanteric fractures.Conclusions: Intertrochanteric fractures are gaining increasing research attention according to the current global trend, and the number of publications regarding intertrochanteric hip fractures will continue to increase. The United States currently publishes the most articles on intertrochanteric fractures. The number of studies related to internal fixation, survival, and prognosis analysis is increasing, suggesting that these topics may become the next research hotspots in the area of intertrochanteric fractures.

Pancreatic cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States both in female and male, and is projected to become the second deadliest cancer by 2030. The overall five-year survival rate remains at around 10%. Pancreatic cancer exhibits a remarkable resistance to established therapeutic options such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy, due to dense stromal tumor microenvironment. Cancer-associated fibroblasts are the major stromal cell type and source of extracellular matrix proteins shaping a physical and metabolic barrier thereby reducing therapeutic efficacy. Targeting cancer-associated fibroblasts has been considered a promising therapeutic strategy. However, depleting cancer-associated fibroblasts may also have tumor-promoting effects due to their functional heterogeneity. Several subtypes of cancer-associated fibroblasts have been suggested to exhibit tumor-restraining function. This review article summarizes recent preclinical and clinical investigations addressing pancreatic cancer therapy through targeting specific subtypes of cancer-associated fibroblasts, deprogramming activated fibroblasts, administration of mesenchymal stem cells, as well as reprogramming tumor-promoting cancer-associated fibroblasts to tumor-restraining cancer-associated fibroblasts. Further, inter-cellular mediators between cancer-associated fibroblasts and the surrounding tissue microenvironment are discussed. It is important to increase our understanding of cancer-associated fibroblast heterogeneity and the tumor microenvironment for more specific and personalized therapies for pancreatic cancer patients in the future.

Background: Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS) is a chronic condition that requires prompt diagnosis and treatment. To date, no bibliometric analysis on HS exists. Analyzing the top 100 citations is important to understand the characteristics of the most influential studies in the HS research landscape, and to guide future research. Objective: To analyze the top 100 most cited articles on HS using bibliometric analysis. Methods: Searches within Scopus and Web of Science using "Hidradenitis Suppurativa" and "Acne Inversa" were conducted on May 14th, 2020. After excluding non-original articles, data for the top 100 articles were analyzed using R-studio and Bibliometrix. Five independent reviewers identified study topic and design. Results: The top 100 most cited articles on HS were published between 1982 and 2017 with an average of 128.3 citations. The top research topic and design were treatment (40 articles) and randomized controlled trials (9), respectively. 2011 had the highest number of publications (9), and the 2012 article by Gregor B. E. Jemec had the highest citations (439). These articles were from 14 different countries with the United States and Denmark as top countries. 27 journals published these articles with the British Journal of Dermatology (BJD) as the top journal. Denmark had the greatest outside country collaborations. Conclusions: The results of our study showed that HS research is steadily growing with greatest support from the BJD. There is a focus on treatments in HS research with the United States and European countries leading the way. However, greater worldwide research of HS is needed.

Abstract Background Osteosarcoma is a primary malignant bone tumor that occurs in children and adolescents. Increasing numbers of scholars have studied its development and treatment. To fully understand the current status of osteosarcoma research and global trends therein, we performed a bibliometric and visual analysis of osteosarcoma studies published between 1999 and 2019. Methods We searched the Web of Science database for publications on osteosarcoma. The basic characteristics of this sample of publications, such as H indices, annual outputs, languages of publication, and authors, journals, institutions, and countries of origin, were determined. Co-citation, collaboration, and keyword co-occurrence were analyzed using CiteSpace software. Results The sample comprised 16,934 articles. The number of publications increased annually. H indices and total numbers of citations were far higher for articles from the United States than for those from other countries. Among institutions, the largest proportion of articles originated from Shanghai Jiaotong University. R. Gorlick was the author with the highest H index and total number of citations. Oncology Letters published the largest number of articles and Cancer Research was the most frequently cited journal. The five most frequently appearing keywords were “osteosarcoma,” “cancer,” “expression,” “apoptosis,” and “metastasis.” The analysis generated 10 major clusters of keywords and 23 clusters of co-cited references. Conclusions The findings of this study have guiding significance for researchers seeking cooperating institutions and partners for osteosarcoma research, popular journals and important literature in the field, an understanding of the knowledge base for this research, and up-to-date identification of research hotspots and trends. Objective To determine the quantity and quality of articles in the field of knee arthroplasty worldwide and elucidate the characteristics of global scientific production. Methods Web of Science was used to identify articles in the field of knee arthroplasty from 2011 to 2015. The total number of papers, number of papers per capita, total number of citations, and mean number of citations were collected. Results In total, 11,590 papers were identified. The number of publications significantly increased from 2011 to 2015. Most originated from North America, East Asia, and West Europe. Most (88.51%) were from high-income countries, 11.48% were from middle-income countries, and only 0.01% were from lower-income countries. The United States had the most articles and total citations. Sweden had the highest mean citations, followed by Denmark and Canada. However, when adjusted by population size, Denmark had the most articles per million population, followed by Switzerland and the Netherlands. Conclusions The number of knee arthroplasty publications has rapidly increased in recent years. The United States is the most prolific, but some European countries are more productive relative to their population.

Abstract Background. The past decade has witnessed the development of ultrasound in orthopaedics, the growth rate of publications has been accelerating. In this study, analysis of the publications on ultrasound in orthopaedics over the past decade has been completed. We aim to provide inspiration for future research on ultrasound in orthopaedics through our work.Methods. All relevant publications between 2009 and 2020 from Web of Science were collected. Statistical Package for Social Science and GraphPad Prism 8 software were used to generate and analyse diagrams. Meanwhile, from the aspects of co-occurring keywords, VOSviewer software and CiteSpace were employed to visualize the research trends.Results. 1,677 publications with a citation frequency of 20,311 were identified. The United States published most publications in this filed and the number of citations was also the highest, as well as the highest H-index. Although China ranked sixth in terms of the number of publications, the growth trend in the future will be fastest. Furthermore, Skeletal Radiology published the most papers related to ultrasound in orthopaedics, Ozcakar, L had published the most papers, and a study by Kwon, YM received the highest citation frequency. The keywords about "MRI", "complication", "female" and "male" were noted as new topics.Conclusions. Through the research, while the contributions of the publications from the United States were significant, the growth rate of Chinese publications in the future cannot be ignored. Moreover, it is hypothesized that diagnosis and epidemiology studies may become hotspots.
