Abstract BACKGROUND. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the relationship between ductal morphometry and ramification patterns in the submandibular gland and pancreas in order to validate their common fractal dimension. METHODS. X-ray ductography with software-aided morphometry were obtained by injecting barium sulphate in the ducts of post-mortem submandibular gland and pancreas specimens harvested from 42 adult individuals. RESULTS. Three cases were excluded from the study because of underlying pathology. There was a significant correlation between the length of the main pancreatic duct (MPD) and the intraglandular portion of the right submandibular duct (SMD) (r = 0.3616; p=0.028), and left SMD (r = 0.595; p<0.01), respectively, but their maximal diameters did not correlate (r = 0.139 - 0.311; p>0.05). Both dimensions of the SMD showed a significant right-left correlation (p<0.05). The number of MPD side branches (mean=37) correlated with the number of side branches of left SMD, but not with the right one (mean = 9). Tortuosity was observed in 54% of the MPD, 32% of the right SMD, and 24% of the left SMD, with mutual association only between the two salivary glands. CONCLUSIONS. Although the length of intraglandular SMD and MPD correlate, other morphometric ductal features do not, thus suggesting a more complex relationship between the two digestive glands.

In this article, we examine the special challenges posed by the practice of polygamy to minority women, focusing on the ways that the state and the women confront the related experiences of violence and trauma associated with this practice. Based on analysis of both policy and interviews with women, we demonstrate the tension between the different mechanisms adopted by the state as opposed to those adopted by the women themselves. We suggest that the concept of ontological security is valuable for a deeper understanding of the range of state motivations in cases related to minority women, violence, and the right for protection. Our case study is the Bedouin community in Israel. We explore the relationship between individual and state-level conceptions of violence and trauma and the complex relationship between these two. We examine state discourses of ontological security through a gendered lens, as frameworks of belonging and mechanisms of exclusion.

Esophageal cancer is the sixth leading cause of death from cancer worldwide. Most patients with esophageal cancer die from relapses or metastases, with a 5-year survival rate ranging from 15% to 25%. The most common places of metastasis are the liver, lungs, bones and adrenal glands. Metastases in the kidney are extremely rare. We present the clinical case of a 61-year-old patient who was surgically radically treated at the A.V. Vishnevsky Surgery Center about esophageal cancer. The lesion was localized in the middle third of the esophagus along the posterior one, with spreading to the right wall, protruding into the lumen, slightly narrowing it. The situation was complicated by the fact that preoperatively the patient was diagnosed with coronary artery stenosis: the middle third of the anterior interventricular branch (AIB) of 80%, the proximal third of the envelope of the left coronary artery to 70%, the right coronary artery in the middle third to 50%. In this connection, the first stage of treatment was performed by stenting of AIB and the envelope of the left coronary artery. With the dynamic observation of the patient's condition, metastasis to the kidney was revealed in two years, and the patient was also operated on. This clinical case demonstrates the possibility of using a complex radiology (including X-ray, ultrasound, MSCT and angiography) at the stages of examination and treatment of such category of patients, allowing timely detection and correction of both the manifestations of the underlying pathology and concomitant diseases.

Sialolithiasis is one of the most common diseases of salivary glands and commonly involves submandibular gland and ducts. “Giant sialoliths” typically measure more than 15 mm in any dimension. Here, an unusual case of sialolith in submandibular duct is reported which progressed into a giant sialolith in six months’ time is reported. A 42-year-old man presented with complaints of recurrent pain and swelling in the right submandibular area. A large stone was palpable intraorally within the Wharton’s duct and intra-operatively, an elongated giant sialolith of 50 mm length was found which is the second largest to be published till date. [PubMed]

Sialolithiasis is the most common disease of the salivary glands. Majority of sialoliths occur in the submandibular gland. Considering the literature, most stones are less than 5 mm, and stones more than 10 mm are quite unusual. We present a case report of a 37 year old male who had a stone of 11×8 mm near the orifice of the right submandibular duct which was removed via transoral incision.

Low temperature x-ray microanalysis (LTXM) of solid biological materials has been documented for Lemna minor L. root tips. This discussion will be limited to a demonstration of LTXM for measuring relative elemental distributions of P,S,Cl and K species within whole cells of tobacco leaves.Mature Wisconsin-38 tobacco was grown in the greenhouse at the University of California, Berkeley and picked daily from the mid-stalk position (leaf #9). The tissue was excised from the right of the mid rib and rapidly frozen in liquid nitrogen slush. It was then placed into an Amray biochamber and maintained at 103K. Fracture faces of the tissue were prepared and carbon-coated in the biochamber. The prepared sample was transferred from the biochamber to the Amray 1000A SEM equipped with a cold stage to maintain low temperatures at 103K. Analyses were performed using a tungsten source with accelerating voltages of 17.5 to 20 KV and beam currents from 1-2nA.

Background: Tuberculosis (TB) and diabetes mellitus (DM) prevalence rates are increasing rapidly, especially in developing countries like Indonesia. There is a relationship between TB and DM that are very prominent, which is the prevalence of pulmonary TB with DM increased by 20 times compared with pulmonary TB without diabetes. Chest X-ray picture of TB patients with DM is atypical lesion. However, there are contradictories of pulmonary TB lesion on chest radiograph of DM patients. Nutritional status has a close relationship with the morbidity of DM, as well as TB.Objectives: The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the lesions of TB on the chest radiograph of patients who su?er from DM with their Body Mass Index (BMI) in Hasan Sadikin Hospital Bandung.Material and Methods: The study was conducted in Department of Radiology RSHS Bandung between October 2014 - February 2015. We did a consecutive sampling of chest radiograph and IMT of DM patients with clinical diagnosis of TB, then the data was analysed by Chi Square test to determine the relationship between degree of lesions on chest radiograph of pulmonary TB on patients who have DM with their BMI.Results: The results showed that adult patients with active pulmonary TB with DM mostly in the range of age 51-70 years old, equal to 62.22%, with the highest gender in men, equal to 60%. Chest radiograph of TB in patients with DM are mostly seen in people who are obese, which is 40% and the vast majority of lesions are minimal lesions that is equal to 40%.Conclusions: There is a signifcant association between pulmonary TB lesion degree with BMI, with p = 0.03

This study is based on the legal responsibility of the assessment of public appraisal reports they make in land procurement activities for development in the public interest. Public assessment is obliged to always be accountable for their assessment. The type of research found in this thesis is a type of normative legal research with the right-hand of the statue approach and case approach. Normative legal research is a study that provides systematic explanation of rules governing a certain legal category, analyzing the relationship between regulations explaining areas of difficulty and possibly predicting future development. . After conducting research, researchers found that one of the causes that made the dispute was a lack of communication conducted between the Government and the landlord. In deliberation which should be the place where the parties find the meeting point between the parties on the magnitude of the damages that will be given, in the field is often used only for the delivery of the assessment of the compensation that has been done.
