Vietnamese communal temples (đình làng) were primarily established with two functions: (1) as a state-patronised institution to organise and control the village politically and culturally and (2) as a place of worship of village deities and meritorious predecessors. Both functions interact and complement each other – in many cases, the second serves as both a “means” and “technique” to deploy the first. However, nowadays the administrative role is no longer available; instead, the spiritual aspects are on the rise as a response to the increasing interaction of Buddhism, Caodaism, and folk beliefs as well as the impact of economic development and urban migration. Village elders learn to organise the temple into a communal socio-cultural institution, whereby cross-village temples have formed a cultural nexus of “power”. This study finds that while several transformed into the form of “temple of heroes”, Tân Chánh temple has been mobilised and transformed into a civic “religious and socio-cultural centre” at the grassroots level. The socio-economic background of the area has caused such transformation. While the practical demand for communication and emotional exchanges among village members vividly ensures the continuity of the temple’s tradition, the loss of direct state control paves the way for its transformation. Both continuity and transformation govern the current religious activities of Tân Chánh temple but there is always a challenge to compromise and integrate these two directions. However, the remaining function of god worship by which rituals are performed as “cultural agents” still binds the villagers together and gives them access to crossing boundaries.

Industrialization in Indonesia has decreased since the economic crisis in 1998, it's just that this decline does not mean that Indonesia does not have the capital to invest in domestic industries, but rather attacks domestically produced goods. From the above statement and added to our observations conducted in Banjaran Village, then we made a research entitled "The Impact of Industrialization on Education, Economy and Religion in the Village of Banjaran, Kec. Sumber Jaya Kec. Majalengka. This research uses a case study research method or as an exploration of related systems (bounded systems) or cases. The data sources used are primary and secondary data from the research we found, as well as data collection instruments such as documentation and interviews with aimed at. There are three aspects we examined, namely aspects of education, religion and economic aspects. Educational aspects, namely the learning model, learning methods and the use of the school library. Meanwhile, from the religious aspect, namely, the lack of regeneration in building to enliven the mosque is very minimal, as well as the religious aspect of the lack of insight in entrepreneurship. So this research adds to the experience where, reactivates reading media (libraries), reactivates and enlivens religious activities and opens the potential for entrepreneurship so that many ideas for entrepreneurship are created.

This study provides an application framework toward measures to prevent/control identity theft in conjunction with sources. It also identifies the impact of overall protection of identity theft on consumer trust, the cost of products/services, and operational performance, all of which in turn contribute to a purchase intention using E-commerce (EC). For the first objective, this study proposes a matrix of sources and measures to prevent and control identity theft. From this matrix, using knowledge from a literature review and judgment based on plausibility, the authors identify global laws, controls placed on organizations, publications to develop awareness, technical management, managerial policy, risk management tools, data management, and control over employees are the potential measuring items to prevent identity theft related to EC. A case study in banking sector through a qualitative approach was conducted to verify the proposed relations, constructs, and measuring items. For the second objective, this research paper conceptualizes a model based on literature review and validates that based on the case study in the financial sector. The model reflects the effects of preventing and controlling identity theft on the costs of products/services, operational performance, and customers’ perception of trust, which would lead to purchase intention in EC.

Environmental policies are designed to deal with externalities either by internalizing environmental costs or imposing specific standards for environmental pollution. This study aims to examine the impact of environmental regulations related to End-of-Life Vehicles (ELV) on innovation in Japan. We determined whether there is any statistical difference in patent activity comparing the periods before and after the regulations were enacted. In order to control for exogenous factors such as business cycles, we also analyzed the ratios of ELV and total environmental patents during the same periods. Results showed that environmental regulations drive innovations and the number of ELV-related patents were larger even after controlling for such exogenous factors. We concluded that environmental policy for ELV in Japan was effective in inducing innovation. However, we also found that the weakness in these types of command and control policy is the lack of incentives for further innovation.

This paper presents a case study in engineering for global development. It introduces the Village Drill, which is an engineered product that has now — five years after its introduction to the market — enabled hundreds of thousands of people across 15 countries and three continents to have access to clean water. The Village Drill creates a 15 cm (6 inch) borehole as deep as 76 m (250 feet) to reach groundwater suitable for drinking. It was designed and developed by the authors together with a team of talented individuals from various disciplines. The case study presents facts and figures for the actual development and sustaining scenario and are unaltered for the purpose of publication. This approach provides the reader with a realistic view of the development time, testing conditions, fundraising, and the work needed to sustain the drill through five years of sales and distribution. The purpose of the case study is to provide sufficient and frank data about a real project so as to promote discussion, critique, and other evaluations that will lead to new developments that inspire and inform successful engineering for global development. As part of the case, the paper describes six fundamental items related to the endeavor; the product, the customer, the impact, the manufacturing, the delivery, and the revenue model of the drill.

Scientific literature has focused on the constraints that Roma women have faced to overcome the racism and inequalities that they and the Roma people as a whole have suffered. However, less attention has been paid to how Roma women organize to challenge this reality. Drawing on a qualitative case study about the Roma Association of Women Drom Kotar Mestipen (Barcelona) and specifically on the analysis of one of its activities, the ‘Roma women student gatherings’ (known as ‘Trobades’ in Catalan), this article contributes evidence to show how Roma women are fighting to improve their own living conditions and those of their people by organizing at the grassroots level. The communicative analysis reveals the impacts that these gatherings have on the individual and societal levels. First, the gatherings have impacts on the individual level, as many of the women who participate in them are exposed to and embrace new educational projects, thus acquiring more skills to be better prepared to later access the labor market. Second, their impact is also evidenced on the societal level, as the gatherings enhance Roma women’s associational life, resulting in new mobilizations and often making women who were once in the shadows become community leaders.

Train delay is a serious issue that can spread rapidly in the railway network leading to further delay of other trains and detention of passengers in stations. However, the current practice in the event of the trail delay usually depends on train dispatcher’s experience, which cannot manage train operation effectively and may have safety risks. The application of intelligent railway monitor and control system can improve train operation management while increasing railway safety. This paper presents a methodology in which train timetabling, platforming and routing models are combined by studying the real-time adjustment and optimization of high-speed railway in the case of the train delay in order to produce a cooperative adjustment algorithm so that the train operation adjustment plan can be obtained. MATLAB computer programs have been developed based on the proposed methodology and adjustment criteria have been established from knowledge data bases in order to calculate optimized solutions. A case study is used to demonstrate the proposed methodology. The results show that the proposed method can quickly adjust the train operation plan in the case of the train delay, restore the normal train operation order, and reduce the impact of train delay on railway network effectively and efficiently.
