Title: Understanding Interior as a Connector Interior design is a discipline that is very close to the complexities and the needs of human life. However, the intepretation and practice of interior design are often limited to decoration and contents within the physical boundaries of architecture. This paper aims to provide another perspective regarding the concept of interior that is, as a significant connector between humans and their living environment along with architecture, so that the methods and practice of interior design as well as architecture may expand more than what has been observed today. The paper is a result of a qualitative research through literature review and exploration of case studies. Results conclude to several interior and architectural design techniques based on the perception of interior as a ?connector? that could be used, such as the blurring of physical boundaries, programmatic manipulation, innovation of material continuity and configuration of architectural elements into interior elements. Through the physical as well as conceptual manipulation of space, the intepretation of interior design would no longer be limited to the contents within the physical boundaries of architecture but rather a truly important connector along with architecture, between humans and their living environment.

This space is also very close to the needs and complexities of human life. Now, the meaning and practice of interior design is not limited to fill or decoration within the physical boundaries that have been formed by architecture. This writing aims to change the general perception and view of interior science, namely as a science that bridges the inner space (interior) with the outer space (architecture and landscape) which also connects humans and their environment. This paper is the result of qualitative research using literature methods and case studies. The results of the discussion refer to several examples of interior and exterior processing (architecture and landscapes) that can be used in design practice with interior concepts as a liaison, namely by physically and conceptually manipulating space, the scope of interior design becomes a science that has a very important role to fulfill human needs. physically and psychologically</ins><strong><ins cite="mailto:reyha" datetime="2021-07-31T17:17">.</ins></strong><ins cite="mailto:reyha" datetime="2021-07-31T17:17"></ins></p>

Title: Architectural Design Symbolism Catholic Church of Saint Peter and The Virgin Mary Catholic Church Santa Grief Seven in BandungAs a place of holy worship, a Catholic Church should posses a sacred interior and exterior expression. Modernization has caused a good deal of this sacred expression of the Catholic Church to fade. As Catholic Church is a place of worship that supports all liturgical activities, semiotic theory are used toanalyze and decipher its architecture to preserve sacredness. The research methodology that was employed was qualitative methods using Peirce’s semioticprinciples and their implementation in Church architecture. The principle was then used to analyze two case studies in every detail of their draw up. The area of planning encompassed: (1) Scope of the surrounding environment; (2) Scope of the site; (3) Scope of the form. This analysis employed semiotic principles that were elaborated with Catholic Church principles to create a guideline in thearchitectural planning of a Catholic Church. The purpose of this research is to find the most dominant sacral expression between Santo PetrusChurch and the Santa Perawan Maria Tujuh Kedukaan Church by means of the symbols attached to the architectural elements between these two Catholic Churches. The results of this study were that sacral expression in terms of (1) Scope of the surrounding environment; (2) Scope of the site; (3) Scope of the form are more dominant in the Santo Petrus Church compared to the Santa Perawan Maria Tujuh Kedukaan Church. Keywords: Peirce’s semiotics, sacral expression, catholic church

Today, complex structure of the environment and the modern human life demands design professions acquire a broader perspective in conjunction with a more expanded, cross-boundary knowledge and skills. Particularly in the field of interior architecture, it is necessary to discuss the theme and the scenario while shaping the interiors where the majority of life takes place. This chapter focuses on the significance of theme and scenario development, presents a descriptive reading through the experiences in the Interior Architectural Design Studio, and in this sense, evaluates the discussion within the educational process. The studio addresses the issue by generating interior design ideas and scenarios that are searching for different ways of healthy living connected to nature and productivity within the city of Istanbul. Providing that “theme and scenario development” is considered as the starting point within interior design processes, it can be observed that established connections trigger creativity, interrelation between different scales and cross-boundary design.

Abstract This article presents a proposal to categorise stimuli that influence well-being in therapeutic environments following Complementary and Integrative Practices (CIPs). With the broader aim of understanding which environmental stimuli influence the well-being of CIP therapeutic environment users, this qualitative research adopted a multimethod approach: bibliographic and documentary research; walkthrough analysis; exploratory visits; environment observations; and finally, interviews. After cross-referencing a literature review and an environmental assessment of three case studies during 2017, a categorisation was drawn up, and it suggests that the stimuli which most influence well-being in CIP environments are: Artistic, Auditory, Biological, Luminous and Hygrothermal Comfort, Energetic, Spatial, Natural, Olfactory, Social and Socio-Spatial stimuli. Included in a broader debate on creating environments favourable to users’ health, and in line with an increasing demand of CIPs in Brazil, this categorisation aims at contributing to the knowledge of CIP environment-specific necessities and improving the quality from the early stage of project idealisation.

AbstractThe 2030 strategy of sustainable development in Egypt is based on integrated goals, including Human Resource Development. Egypt has ~9,540 disabled architects, who can play an important role in achieving competitive advantage through their integration in Architectural Design Firms (ADFs). By neglecting the benefits of integrating disabled architects, ADFs encounter the risk of losing unique skills and competent personnel. This article investigates the integration of disabled architects in ADFs as an approach for achieving competitive advantage. To achieve this aim, a research methodology consisting of literature review, case studies, and survey questionnaire has been adopted, and it is designed to achieve five objectives. First, literature review is used to investigate the concepts of disabilities and competitive advantage, as well as the relation between integrating disabled architects and the achievement of competitiveness in ADFs. Second, six case studies are presented and analyzed to investigate the role and process of achieving competitive advantage in ADFs through employing disabled architects. Third, the results of a survey questionnaire are analyzed to examine the perception regarding and application of employing disabled architects as an approach for achieving competitive advantage in ADFs in Egypt. Fourth, a framework is developed to facilitate the integration of disabled architects in ADFs with the goal of achieving competitive advantage. Finally, the research findings are summarized and recommendations are put forth. The value of this research stems from the need to address the issue of lack of employment of disabled architects in ADFs and the benefits of making better use of their unique capabilities and skills toward achieving competitiveness. In addition, this research covers a controversial topic that receives scant attention in construction literature, especially in Egypt.
