The causes of the high infection rate of health workers in case of unfavorable epidemic situation,as well as occupational risks of health workers related to work conditions characterized by the presence of a complex of unfavorable factors of production environment; noted the combined effects of behavioural risk factors for health of health workers with professional risk, enhancing the cumulative negative impacts in professional deformation of the part of health workers, neglecting the requirements of safe labour; stressed the need for preventive work based on continuous and effective monitoring and evaluation of improvement actions, improvement and development of the management system of occupational health and safety is regulated by the system of standards for labor safety, a significant lack of which in healthcare institutions is the lack of such an effective interactive tool for enhancing motivation.

AbstractWorkers, managers, occupational health and safety inspectors, and the general community can be trained to detect and promote action by the use of sentinel markers for detecting industrial disasters. A sentinel marker is a pre-disaster warning sign of impending failure in prevention. Administration sentinel markers are: weak occupational health and safety programs; lack of spontaneous access to top management; failure to accept responsibility for sub-contractors; absence of written disaster plans and drills for emergency response in the factory and in the adjacent community; non-investigation of prodromal leaks, exposures, spills, or injuries; punishment of “trouble-some” individuals (“whistleblowers”) reporting prodromal events; non-use or misuse of data on illness, injury, and absenteeism; and sub-optimal work conditions and supervision of shift workers. Information sentinel markers are: absence of worker and community right-to-know programs; non-use of data on earlier mishaps from similar technologies; and failure to provide toxicologic data to hospitals in the pre-disaster phase. Technological sentinel markers include the absence of fail-safe controls, interlocks, and automated alarm systems driven by real-time monitoring. Transportation sentinel markers include sub-optimal vehicle standards, alcohol and drug abuse, and fatigue in drivers. Preventive programs based on identification of all sentinel markers by workers and others outside a narrow spectrum of specialists are suggested to be more effective than are selective actions based on risk assessment analysis.

Background: OHSAS 18001:2007 is management system of occupational health and safety international standard which includes the structure of the organization, the planning activities, responsibility, procedure, the process and resources to manage K3 .OHSAS have a purpose for protection against the workers from unwanted things arising from work environment, or activity work itself, it have an impact on safety and health workers, and so as not to cause much loss for from accidents work have image bad a company that can lower image company. Purpose: This study aimed to understand the effectiveness of the occupational health and safety assessment series (OHSAS) 18001:2007 in PT. Surya Besindo Sakti. Methods: The research used descriptive qualitative research type and design. Test the validity of data using technique triagulation method. Result: PT. Surya Besindo Sakti still meets the minimum requirements of the application of Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series (OHSAS) 18001: 2007. With findings of minor incompatibilities 6 and 1 OFI (Opportunity For Improvement) findings. Conclusion: The company is expected to continue to commit to run the Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series (OHSAS) 18001: 2007 for corporate vision and mission to be achieved, objective must be monitored its achievement every month by each department and ensure all procedures used in the company reviewed and implemented consistently.

Poor occupational health and safety damages many lives and livelihoods which impedes economic growth. Poor and unsafe work conditions are both a cause and consequence of extreme poverty. Both reinforce each other negatively. The significance of occupational health and safety is particularly strong in countries like Bangladesh where it is not addressed or explored much. This study focuses on urban and peri-urban Bangladesh drawing from: 15 Life History (LH) interviews with people who became disabled during work, 10 in-depth interviews with vulnerable workers in high risk environments; and key informant interviews (KII) with five senior management officials in high risk workplaces. Other studies have also been consulted on occupation safety in rural and urban Bangladesh. Findings confirm that extreme poor people are not only disproportionately drawn into high risk and unhealthy jobs but also the accidents and health problems that arise from these jobs exacerbate poverty. Employers were found to be reluctant to take responsibility for workers and any support offered to injured workers was mainly done out of charity. Sub-contracting was found to be potentially harmful practice of the business/industry owners which makes workers more vulnerable. The paper concludes that occupational health and safety in Bangladesh should be a higher priority in discussions of extreme poverty, its consequences and its solutions.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3126/ijosh.v4i1.10654

Nurses are one of the most endeavored members of healthcare services. Operating rooms, on the other hand, require special caution and contain various hazards for healthcare professionals. Operating rooms contain various risk factors related to applications, infrastructure and humans. It is one of the areas that need nursing care the most since patients are dependent on their nurses to meet their personal needs. Nurses are exposed to various risk and health problems in operating rooms. Healthcare service provided by nurses working in a healthy environment directly affects the health and quality of life of those who receive the service. In order to prevent these problems, intensive up-to-date educations on occupational risks and employee safety should be provided for the nurses working in operating rooms. In addition to the general occupational hygiene measures, different precautions should be taken for the operating rooms. Working in a healthy and safe environment is a human right that every individual must have. Managers of the medical institutions should be attentive to follow the laws and sanctions on occupational health and safety, institutions should be inspected frequently and monitored carefully. In this section, this subject will be studied in line with actual data and resources.

Introduction. The relevance of the presented work is, first of all, due to the significant number of employees of oil companies. There are more than a million of such specialists working in Russia. At the same time, world statistics claim that more than a third of critical deviations in the health indicators of workers are associated with harmful production factors. In order to avoid the relevant risks, it is important, in particular, to organize productive training in labor safety standards and rules, and to form risk-oriented thinking. Problem Statement. The conducted research is aimed, first, at identifying typical occupational risks in the field of oil production. The Standard Regulation on the Occupational Health and Safety Management System developed by the Ministry of Labor of the Russian Federation is used as the basis for classification. Secondly, the features of modular training in labor safety standards and rules, taking into account the risks in the workplace, are justified. Theoretical Part. The regulatory and legal framework of labor protection, including enterprises with high accident risks, is considered. The paper provides key professions and main labor functions taking into account the production practices of two oil-producing enterprises operating in Russia. The analysis of actual workplaces and regulatory documents allowed us to establish typical occupational risks for the specialties under consideration. The recommendations for improving the system of training in labor safety standards and rules are proposed. Conclusions. Occupational risks are identified from the list of hazards presented in the Standard Regulation on the Occupational Health and Safety Management System. The recommendations for the implementation of the identified occupational risks in the system of training in occupational safety standards and rules are proposed. With this information, you can reduce the time spent on identifying occupational risks in oil production, which generally optimizes the risk management of this field.

The aim of this study is to identify distribution of occupational diseases and related health complaints among health workers and also to detect employee apprehensions about availability of occupational health and safety issues in the workplace. The application area of this study is a private hospital subservient in Istanbul and accredited by JCI. Within the framework of this study, a survey which contains 8 queries about demographic and personal features, 12 queries about occupational diseases and related complaints and 24 queries about occupational health and safety issues is applied to health staff employed in variable departments and positions in this hospital. The reliability coefficient of this survey is found .816 (Cronbach’s Alpha). In the conclusion of this study; it is detected that the employee’s perception about the occupational health and safety issues in the workplace has a positive aspect. Moreover, arm and leg pains (%65.6), over-fatigue (%64.1), insomnia (%59.7) and presence of venous varicosises (%54.2) were the most determined diseases and complaints, which are considered as work-originated among healthcare workers. In accordance with findings, the privileged improvements about the problems in occupational health and safety issues in this hospital have been presented.

Ways to address the increasing global health workforce shortage include improving the occupational health and safety of health workers, particularly those in high-risk, low-resource settings. The World Health Organization and International Labour Organization designed HealthWISE, a quality improvement tool to help health workers identify workplace hazards to find and apply low-cost solutions. However, its implementation had never been systematically evaluated. We, therefore, studied the implementation of HealthWISE in seven hospitals in three countries: Mozambique, South Africa, and Zimbabwe. Through a multiple-case study and thematic analysis of data collected primarily from focus group discussions and questionnaires, we examined the enabling factors and barriers to the implementation of HealthWISE by applying the integrated Promoting Action on Research Implementation in Health Services (i-PARiHS) framework. Enabling factors included the willingness of workers to engage in the implementation, diverse teams that championed the process, and supportive senior leadership. Barriers included lack of clarity about how to use HealthWISE, insufficient funds, stretched human resources, older buildings, and lack of incident reporting infrastructure. Overall, successful implementation of HealthWISE required dedicated local team members who helped facilitate the process by adapting HealthWISE to the workers’ occupational health and safety (OHS) knowledge and skill levels and the cultures and needs of their hospitals, cutting across all constructs of the i-PARiHS framework.

Evaluation of work conditions and occupational health risk factors in enterprises within a 10-year period in Latvia The objective of the study was to conduct a survey in the field of occupational health and safety the results of which could be used in rational and effective decision making for elaboration of employment and social policy programmes and for ensuring occupational safety and health programme development. During the study the following groups of people were surveyed: employers, occupational health and safety specialists, and employees. The traditional work risk factors (physical, chemical, biological) have changed to new risks (psychosocial, ergonomic, microclimatic) in Latvia today. The study included objective assessment of occupational health and safety situation (analysis of work environment risk factors measurement data bases, information on occupational diseases, workplace accidents). Results of measurements showed that one-third of measured risk factors values exceeded mandatory or recommended limits but situation has been improved during the last years (2002 compared to 2006). The results of surveys reveal insufficient assessment of risk factors in workplaces and selection of most hazardous ones only. Awareness and understanding of employers and employees regarding occupational health and safety requirements was dissatisfactory. The results of the study reveal a low level of workplace accidents compared to other countries within EU, which may be the result of poor registration system in Latvia. Strengthening of occupational safety and health normative basis and improvement of qualification of occupational physicians has increased the number of occupational diseases and patients revealed for the first time from 1996 to 2006. Early diagnose of occupational diseases and effective rehabilitation is an important question to favour a more rapid return of workforce after occupational morbidity. Study showed that attention should further be paid to simplification of legal requirements, development of alternative methods for informing and educating people, as well as recurrent definition of national indicators to assess efficacy of implemented measures related to occupational health and safety.
