In this study, clove bud oil, which was cultivated in the Mediterranean region of Turkey, was provided from a private essential oil company in Turkey. Essential oil from clove (Syzygium aromaticum L.) was obtained from steam-distillation method, and its chemical composition was analyzed by GC and GC-MS. The results showed that the essential oils mainly contained about 87.00% eugenol, 8.01% eugenyl acetate and 3.56% β-Caryophyllene. The chemical composition of the Turkish clove bud oil was comparable to those of trees naturally grown in their native regions.

In present study, a steam distillation method has been adopted for extraction of the essential oil from Vietnamese lemon (Citrus aurantifolia) peel harvested from Tien Giang Province, Vietnam. Various extraction conditions influencing the oil yield were investigated. The resulting essential oil was evaluated for physico-chemical characteristics and antibacterial activities. The chemic al composition of oil was investigated by GC-MS. The results showed that with grinded lemon peel, a ratio of water and lemon peels of 3:1 (mL/g), extraction time of 90 min at 120 ºC, the highest essential oil yield was attained at 2.1 %. Bioactive components found at high content included limonene (64.90 %), γ-terpinene (13.70 %), β-pinene (11.89 %), α-pinene (2.11 %), β-cymene (1.80 %) and sabinen (1.52 %). The lemon essential oil in this study was found to inhibit five bacteria strains including Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus, Escherichia coli, Salmonella enterica and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

A method for determination of formaldehyde in water-borne coatings by high-performance liquid chromatographic was proposed. Ultrasonic water extraction method was used instead of the traditional steam distillation method can be more rapid and efficient extraction of target, filtered and derivatived with DNPH. The extract was separated by C18 column with an elution composed of acetonitrile and water, and detected at 352nm. The detection limit was 0.1mg/L. The method showed good linear correlation, R2 was 0.9997 at the range of 0.1mg/L ~ 20 mg/L. Recovery was 95% ~105%. This method is simple, effective and sensitive.

Steam distillation oil (SDO) and simultaneous distillation oil (SDEO) were obtained from Tagetes Erecta L. leaf of Heilongjiang province by steam distillation method and simultaneous distillation method, respectively. The yields were 0.0943% and 1.005%. Compared the differentiation of essential oil through the GC-MS analysis, the result indicated that there were twenty-nine kinds of compounds can be confirmed from SDO and fifty-one kinds can be confirmed from SDEO. The two kinds of essential oil were assayed for affinity to scavenge sodium nitrite for the purpose of characterizing mechanisms of nitrite cleaning activity. Both show strong nitrite cleaning activity up to a concentration of 0.1mL.The maximum scavenging rate was 95.18% (SDO) and 54.28% (SDEO).

The steam distillation method was used to obtain samples of essential oil of some species of genus Agastache L. introduced in Belarus. More than 20 components have been identified and determined in the essential oils of Agastache pallidiflora ssp.neomexicana L., Agastache aurantiaca L., Agastache mexicana L., Agastache foeniculum L. by gas liquid chromatography.The quantitative composition of the samples of essential oils depends on the type of plant material. The main its components are limonene, 1.8-cineol, mentone, isomentone, methyl chavicol, methyeugenol. The main component of essential oils Agastache pallidiflora ssp. neomexicana L. и Agastache aurantiaca L is mentone (40–65 %). Essential oil Agastache foeniculum L. is enriched with pulegone and isomentone. Methyl chavicol and methyleugenol dominate in Agastache mexicana essential oil. Distribution of the enantiomers of limonene, menthone and pulegone are shown. Regardless of the plant species, the samples are optically pure in the (+)-pulegone. The nature of the distribution of the enantiomers of limonene and menthone is an individual characteristic of the studied Agastache L. essential oils.

The leaves of pandan wangi (Pandanus amaryllifolius Roxb.) are known as food flavor and can be extracted to produce essential oil.  Extraction of its essential oil is usually conducted by distillation method that would give added value for this plant. This study aimed to study the effect of different durations of distillation process on the essential oils yield and quality of pandanus using water and steam distillation method. The method used in this research was experimental method with descriptive analysis. This research used five variants duration of distillation, which was repeated two times. The duration of distillation consisted of 2 hours, 4 hours, 6 hours, 8 hours, and 10 hours. The parameters observed to determine the best treatment consisted of the amount of yield produced and the quality parameters including specific gravity, refractive index, acid number, solubility in ethanol 90%, and ester number. Based on the results of the research conducted, distillation to produce the best yield is the duration of 8 hours with a yield value of 0.55%, while distillation to produce the best quality is the duration of 6 hours with a specific gravity of 1.0563 g/mL, refractive index 1.3473, the acid number was 3.274 mg KOH/g, solubility in ethanol 90% (1:1), and ester number of 96.06 mL HCl/g. Kisar sweet orange is an endemic fruit and primary commodity from Kisar Island, Southwest Maluku Regency - Maluku Province. Currently, Kisar sweet orangeswere only consumed as fresh fruit during this time, partially processed into juice and the peels were discarded as wastes. Kisar sweet orange peels can be processed into essential oil to increase their economic value. The essential oil made from orange peels is highly preferable, especially for the middle to upper-class consumers, for health and air-freshening purposes.  This essential oil has a higher selling value. This research aims at isolating and identifying the chemical components and quality of essential oil made from Kisar sweet orange peels. This essential oil was isolated using a steam distillation method, and its chemical components were identified using GC-MS instruments.. The research results showed that the essential oil made from Kisar sweet orange peels dried with a cabinet dryer for two days utilizing the steam distillation method provides a yield of 0.53%, with its properties of specific gravity of 0.8457, refractive index of 1.4651 (20°C), acid number of 1.92, ester number of 8.05, and solubility in alcohol of 1:9. The main chemical component of the essential oil made from Kisar sweet orange peels detected by GC-MS is limonene (70.80%).

Myrtus communis L. is one of the important aromatic and medicinal species from the Mediterranean area. It is used in various fields such as culinary, cosmetic, pharmaceutical, therapeutic, and industrial applications. Thus, a Box–Wilson experimental plan was used in this study to select the optimal operating conditions in order to obtain high volumes of essential oils. The factorial design method was applied to evaluate at an industrial scale the effect of major process variables on the essential oil extraction from Myrtus communis L. herbs by the steam distillation method. The input variables considered as significant operating conditions were: X1—boiler occupancy rate (boilers were filled to 50%, 75%, and 100%), X2—distillation duration (distillation was continued 60, 75, and 90 min), and X3—particle size (herbs were cut in sizes of 10, 20, and 30 mm via guillotine). The dependent variable selected, coded as Y, was the essential oil volume obtained (mL). The steps of the classical statistical experimental design technique were complemented with the Taguchi method to improve the extraction efficacy of essential oil from Myrtus communis L., and the optimum parameter conditions were selected: boiler occupancy rate 100%, distillation duration 75 min, and particle size 20 mm. Following the optimum parameters, the GC-MS assay revealed for the Myrtus communis L. essential oil two predominant components, α-pinene—33.14% and eucalyptol—55.09%.

The study aimed to clarify some biochemical properties, important for the phytopharmaceutical use of yarrow from the A. millefolium agg.. The study comprised 41 populations from Slovenia. The most abundant taxa were included: Achillea millefolium L., A. roseoalba Ehrend., A. collina (Wirtg.) Becker ex Rchb., A. distans Waldst. & Kit. ex Willd., A. pannonica Scheele, A. pratensis Saukel & R.Länger and A. nobilis L. Assessment of essential oil content with the steam distillation method showed no significant difference between taxa. Essential oil content was the lowest in A. collina (6.50 ml kg-1 of dry matter), followed by A. pannonica (7.75 ml kg-1), A. distans (8.50 ml kg-1), A. nobilis (9.40 ml kg-1), A. pratensis (9.65 ml kg-1), A. nobilis × A. millefolium (12.25 ml kg-1), A. roseoalba (12.75 ml kg-1) and A. millefolium (13.50 ml kg-1). The content of azulenes was determined by photometrical measurement of chamazulene in essential oil extracts. Chamazulene was only present in the diploid taxon and one tetraploid taxon, i.e., A. roseoalba (0.16 % of dry plant mass) and A. collina (0.05 %). The differences in antioxidative capacity of extracts from different taxa were not statistically significant, so we can assume that specific antioxidative capacity is not bound to a specific taxon or ploidy level.
