The battle of Pozna? between the Swedish army commanded by Johann August Meijerfelt and the Saxon army commanded by general Johann Matthias von der Schulenburg began at the dawn of 19 August 1704. The Saxon general had a major advantage in terms of army strength. He was therefore able to push back the Swedish army from the city, but did not capture the tower. The lack of broader researcher interest and the relatively high number of remaining source materials contributed to the tackling the subject. It is worth shedding light on all events that faded into the historical abyss and are forgotten, or worse, are enveloped by false myths. The Republic of Poland, which became an arena for direct military action in 1702-1709 during the Great Northern War, suffered much pain and destruction despite not officially participating in the war. It is perhaps this fact that makes the conflict and its effects difficult to find among valuable Polish historiography works that would objectively show its course and above all the art of war of the early XVIII century. This paper represents only a small droplet of what remains to be done in terms of describing each aspect of the Great Northern War.

The subject of our interest in the research that preceded this scholarly work was the life and creative path of Ilhami Emin, that is, his contribution to the development of Turkish literature in the Republic of Macedonia. For the purpose we consulted with literary works that offer many data, that is, they talk about the period in which he lived and created "the poet of the Turkish people". Beginning from his birth in the city of Radovis, his tumultuous school years to his work and successful acting in various cultural areas, we once again prove his great merit for the development of Turkish literature in our region. Ilhami Emin conveyed another important feature in his creation, which is bilingualism. Namely, he creates and publishes in parallel both in Turkish and in the Macedonian language, that is, his works are published in the Republic of Macedonia and the Republic of Turkey, which is why we can say that Emin has in range and aesthetically charged both the Turkish and the Macedonian literature.

The article reveals the actual problem of young people’s public opinion about interethnic and interfaith relations in multicultural border regions of Russia, which are exposed to the increased impact of cross-border threats to information security. The purpose of this article is to identify the similarities and differences in the orientations and attitudes of perception of interethnic and interfaith relations by the working youth of Krasnodar Region and the Republic of Crimea. The study was conducted on the basis of the results of questionnaire sociological surveys synchronously implemented in the Kuban and in the Crimea (August – October 2018). The novelty of the article lies in the choice of its purpose, the subject of the research and the collected empirical material. As a result of the work, conclusions were drawn about the increased conflictiness of interethnic and interfaith mutual perceptions of working youth in the Republic of Crimea, about the predominance of socio-cultural delimitation “Slavs – Crimean Tatars”, which largely coincides with confessional disengagement. Ethnic distances on the scale of E. Bogardus in the Crimea are clearly pronounced asymmetrical. The area of increased conflict is established in the Dzhankoy district and the city of Simferopol with suburbs. Migration processes and migration policies are perceived by the working youth of Crimea as a less controversial and ethnically marked process than the youth of Kuban.

At the same time, in order to ensure a better understanding of the nature of military law, the article discusses the role of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Poland in times of peace, crisis, and war.The author used critical analysis of literature on legal science and security sciences, and source materials: mainly acts of universally binding law (the Constitution, acts, and regulations), as well as acts of internally binding law (instructions, ordinances, resolutions, decisions, guidelines, and agreements of various state authorities).

Cities are the main pillars of human and economic activities and have the capacity to create positive synergies that create opportunities for development for their residents. However, they also generate a large range of problems that are increasingly complex and more difficult to solve as the city grows. The "smart" city is a newer concept introduced into urban theory, and is increasingly the subject of analysis in scientific and professional circles. For the city to be "smart", it needs a cultural transformation, and for the vision to become a reality, it is necessary to have a unique strategy that will unite all individual efforts and ensure the sustainability of the whole concept, otherwise individual smart projects will only be lonely sparks.

The subject of this research is the toponyms Yessentuk, Yessentuchok, Yessentuki. The goal is ti determine their origin. The author leans on the data of explorations of the remains Golden Horde mausoleums of the XIV century, which were conducted in the late XX and early XXI centuries on the outskirts and in the area of the city of Yessentuki of Stavropol Krai. The article considers the previously revealed connection between mausoleums of the XIV century, Podkumok River Valley, and the Kabardian-Abazin tombstones of the XVIII century located here. It is worth noting that at the time of construction of the Yessentuki reduit at the end of the XVIII century, the general population of the area were Kabardians and Abazins. The application of comprehensive approach alongside various methods of historical and philological sciences allowed determining the origins of the toponyms Yessentuk, Yessentuchok, Yessentuki, as well as carrying out further reconstruction of the history of the Central Fore-Caucasus of pre-Russian and Russian eras. The conclusion is made that the name Yessentuk (in later versions – Yessentuchok and Yessentuki) stems from the Kabardian word combination Yesen tlygu – the edge, area, or border) of Yesen. The personal name Yesen is of Turkic-Mongolian origin and can be occasionally seen in the anthroponymy of the Adyghe and neighboring peoples. The obtained results can be used in studying history of the North Caucasus, toponymic research, museology, creation of science education films.

The authors in the article explore the issues of irrigation in the context of improvement of water supply to the city. The biography of A.I.Dobromyslov is studied separately from the source side. The authors widely used the materials of the Central State Archive of the Republic of Uzbekistan to reveal this problem. They mainly use the official records of the Turkestan General-Governorate Office.

The year 2017 – a centenary of the “1st Exhibition of Polish Expressionists” – was proclaimed as the Jubilee Year of Polish Avant-garde. To mark the occasion over 200 events were organised by nearly 100 institutions. What is the outcome of it all? Has it changed the way the avant-garde movement and its role in Polish culture and tradition were perceived? Among accomplishments the jubilee year brought about is undoubtedly a number of exhibitions, their catalogues as well as other publications devoted to the avant-garde. Unfortunately, not all the initiatives turned out to be successful. Some of them though will be well remembered, inter alia: the cycle of exhibitions prepared by the Art Museum in Łódź which were accompanied by comprehensive and well edited catalogues; exhibitions: “Urban Revolt” at the National Museum in Warsaw, and “Avant-gardes of Szczecin” at the National Museum in Szczecin. One of the achievements is bigger amount of visual and textual resources available in Poland to explore the subject of the avant-garde. The jubilee publications also contained numerous documental materials that were not well known before. Significant theoretical texts have been published as well: the extended edition of Władysław Strzemiński’s Theory of Vision, and the Athens Charter by Le Corbusier, the importance of which can not be emphasised enough. The publication of relevant source materials must also be brought to attention; they came out as a series of catalogues by the Art Museum in Łódź, inter alia an ample selection of articles written by Debora Vogel in the book that accompanied the exhibition “Montages. Debora Vogel and the New Legend of the City”. During the jubilee year a question whether the avant-garde tradition resonates today was raised on many occasions. Two exhibitions presented various attitudes towards the heritage of the avant-garde: mentioned above “Montages” exhibition in Łódź, and one in the International Cultural Centre in Kraków “Lviv, 24 June 1937. City, Architecture, Modernism”.
