The use of an experimental design technique in the development of various pharmaceutical preparations, including tablet preparations, has become the latest trend. Because of their ease of use, tablet formulations are popular among both producers and patients. To increase the usage of tablets in diverse circles and settings, researchers are working to develop a variety of tablet excipients for various functions. Fast dissolving tablets (FDT), effervescent tablets, modified-release tablets, oral mucoadhesive tablets, gastroretentive tablets, and colon targeted tablets are some of the tablet formats that have been developed in addition to traditional tablets. This review will look at how formulation optimization in tablet preparations has been done during the previous ten years using specific literacies. The articles for this review were found using the keywords tablet, excipient, matrices, formulation, and QBD in specialized databases such as Elsevier, Pubmed, and Cambridge. Other options include Springer publications, material from the Internet, and articles published online by The Lancet Respiratory Medicine, Medscape, and Statpearls. The formulation design strategy is based on the experimental design approach carried out on the kind of tablet preparation, which has distinct important quality parameters.

Background: The loop diuretic drug furosemide is widely used for the treatment of edema in various conditions, such as pulmonary, cardiac and hepatic edema, as well as cardiac infarction. Furosemide, due to its poor water solubility and low bioavailability after oral administration of conventional dosage form, is categorized as class IV in the biopharmaceutical classification system. Objective: In the case of furosemide, this release profile is responsible for various physiological problems, acute diuresis being the most serious. This adverse effect can be circumvented by the modified release of furosemide from tablet formulations compared to those forms designed for immediate release. Method: In this report, a D-optimal combined experimental design was applied for the development of furosemide containing bilayer and compression coated tablets, aiming at lowering the drug’s burst release in the acidic environment of the stomach. A D-optimal combined design was selected in order to include all requirements in one design with many levels for the factors examined. The following responses were selected as the ones reflecting better criteria for the desired drug release: dissolution at 120 min (30-40%), 300 min (60-70%) and 480 min >95%. The new formulations, suggested by the Doptimal combined design, incorporated different grades of Eudragit ® polymers (Eudragit® E100 and Eudragit® L100-55), lactose monohydrate and HPMC K15M. The dissolution profile of furosemide from these systems was probed via in vitro dissolution experiments in buffer solutions simulating the pH of the gastrointestinal tract. Results: The results indicate that the use of Eudragit® E100 in conjunction with lactose monohydrate led to 21.32-40.85 % drug release, in the gastric medium, in both compression-coated and bilayer tablets. This is lower than the release of the mainstream drug Lasix® (t=120 min, 44.5% drug release), implying longer gastric retention and drug waste minimization. Conclusion: Furosemide’s release in the intestinal environment, from compression coated tablets incorporating Eudragit® L100-55 and HPMC K15M in the inner core or one of the two layers of the bilayer tablets, was delayed, compared to Lasix®

Mikrobiologi uji kualitas produk kedelai utama diarahkan pada kehadiran Saccharomyces cerevisiae ragi (S. cerevisiae), S. Bailli, S. rouxii dankontaminan bakteri seperti Bacillus dan Deinococcus. Jenis ragi dan bakteri yang terlibat dalam proses dan dapat menjadi salah satu parameter kualitas penting dalam persiapan yang dihasilkan. Jumlah dan viabilitas bakteri dan ragi menjadi parameter utama dalam proses persiapan bahan uji. Jumlah tersebut adalah jumlah minimum yang berlaku dapat dianalisis. Jumlah ini harus dibawah 10 CFU diperlukan untuk menunjukkan tingkat hygienitas proses dan tingkat minimal kontaminasi. Microbiological test of the quality of the main soy products aimed at thepresence of yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae (S. cerevisiae), S. bailli, S. rouxii and bacterial contaminants such as Bacillus and Deinococcus. Types of yeasts and bacteria involved in the process and can be one of the important quality parameters in the preparation produced. The number and viability of bacteria and yeasts become themain parameters in the process of test preparation materials. The amount in question is the minimum number that is valid can be analyzed. This amount must be below 10 CFU required to indicate the level of hygienitas process and the minimum level of contamination. Viability of bacteria and yeast test preparation materials for proficiencytest of soy sauce that preserved by L-drying technique is Deinococcus radiodurans ( D. radiodurans ) 16 years, 58 years S. cerevisiae, and S. roxii 13 years. key words : Viability, Deinococcus, Khamir, L-drying, Proficiency

Background: Mesalazine (5-aminosalicylic acid, 5-ASA) is a drug substance with an antiinflammatory activity, which is mainly used in the symptomatic treatment of diseases, such as Ulcerative Colitis, the Crohn's disease and the idiopathic inflammatory bowel disease. Mesalazine exerts its effect locally in the inflamed area of the intestine and not through systematic absorption, therefore the investigation of its release characteristics from solid pharmaceutical formulations is of great importance. Objective: The development of novel mesalazine modified release formulations with improved properties, regarding drug release in the gastrointestinal tract, by utilisation of the Design of Experiments (DoE) approach. Methods: D-optimal experimental design was applied. A Simplex Lattice mixture design was used for the development of suitable capsules containing 4 mini tablets and a D-optimal mixture design was used for compression-coated tablets, with the following characteristics: ≤10% release in 2 h, to minimize its degradation in the upper gastrointestinal tract, 20-40% release in 5 h for mesalazine administration in the small intestine, and quantitative release in 12 h for colonic delivery. The dissolution experiments were conducted in gastrointestinal-like fluids and pectinases to simulate the pectinolytic enzymes present in the colon. Results: The optimal compositions were reached via the desirability function, as a compromise to the different responses. The optimal solutions for both formulations led to colon-specific delivery of the active substance with minimal 5-ASA release in the upper gastrointestinal tract and appeared to conform with the pre-determined characteristics. Hard gelatin capsules, when filled with mini-tablets led to the aimed modified release profile, having sigmoidal characteristics and compression coated tablets led to colonic delivery. Conclusion: Two novel mesalazine formulations were developed with the desirable colonic release, by conducting a minimal number of experiments, as suggested by DoE experimental design.

Introduction:This paper presents the development and validation of a novel, fast, sensitive and accurate high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method for the simultaneous quantitative determination of dibucaine HCl, fluocortolone pivalate and fluocortolone caproate in pharmaceutical preparations.Experiment:Development of the chromatographic method was based on an experimental design approach. A five-level-three-factor central composite design requiring 20 experiments in this optimization study was performed in order to evaluate the effects of three independent variances including mobile phase ratio, flow rate and amount of acid in the mobile phase.Conclusion:The optimum composition for mobile phase was found as a methanol:water:acetic acid mixture at 71.6 : 26.4 : 2 (v/v/v) ratio and optimum separation was acquired by isocratic elution with a flow rate of 1.3 mL/min. The analytes were detected using a UV detector at 240 nm. The developed method was validated in terms of linearity, precision, accuracy, limit of detection/quantitation and solution stability and successfully applied to the determination of dibucaine HCl, fluocortolone pivalate and fluocortolone caproate in pharmaceutical topical formulations such as suppositories and ointments.

Abstract Droplet size, which is affected by nozzle type, nozzle setups and operation, and spray solution, is one of the most critical factors influencing spray performance, environment pollution, food safety, and must be considered as part of any application scenario. Characterizing spray nozzles can be a timely and expensive proposition if the entire operational space (all combinations of spray pressure and orifice size, what influence flow rate) is to be evaluated. This research proposes a structured, experimental design that allows for the development of computational models for droplet size based on any combination of a nozzle’s potential operational settings. The developed droplet size determination model can be used as Decision Support System (DSS) for precise selection of sprayer working parameters to adapt to local field scenarios. Five nozzle types (designs) were evaluated across their complete range of orifice size (flow rate*) and spray pressures using a response surface experimental design. Several of the models showed high level fits of the modeled to the measured data while several did not as a result of the lack of significant effect from either orifice size (flow rate*) or spray pressure. The computational models were integrated into a spreadsheet based user interface for ease of use. The proposed experimental design provides for efficient nozzle evaluations and development of computational models that allow for the determination of droplet size spectrum and spraying classification for any combination of a given nozzle’s operating settings. The proposed DSS will allow for the ready assessment and modification of a sprayers performance based on the operational settings, to ensure the application is made following recommendations in plant protection products (PPP) labels.

The impact of card cylinder speed, card production rate and draw frame doubling on cotton yarn quality parameters was investigated by using the Box-Behnken experimental design. It was found that yarn tenacity, elongation and hairiness increase by increasing the number of draw frame doubling up to a certain level and then decrease by further increase in doubling. Yarn unevenness increased by increasing card production rate and total yarn imperfections increased by decreasing card cylinder speed and increasing card production rate.

Abstract Background and study aims Post-colonoscopy colorectal cancer (PCCRC) is an important quality parameter of colonoscopy. Most studies have shown that the risk for colorectal cancer is reduced after an index colonoscopy for screening or diagnostic purposes with or without polypectomy. In this study, we aimed to quantify and describe PCCRC in Belgium, including the possible relationships with patient, physician, and colonoscopy characteristics. Patients and methods Reimbursement data on colorectal related medical procedures from the Intermutualistic Agency (IMA-AIM) were linked with data on clinical and pathological staging of colorectal cancer (CRC) available at the Belgian Cancer Registry (BCR) over a period covering 9 years (2002 – 2010). Results In total, 63 518 colorectal cancers were identified in 61 616 patients between 2002 and 2010. We calculated a mean PCCRC rate of 7.6 %. PCCRC was significantly higher in older people and correlated significantly with polyp detection rate and the number of resections and procedures performed per year per physician. Conditional observed survival, given still alive 3 years since first colonoscopy, for PCCRC was worse than for CRC. Older patients and patients with invasive carcinomas had a worse outcome. Conclusions Although no quality register exists in Belgium, we were able to demonstrate that PCCRC in Belgium is directly related to the experience of the physician performing the procedure. In the absence of a quality register, utilization of population-based data sources proved to be a valuable tool to identify quality parameters.

Early work established that carcasses of deer, compared with other species, were leaner, yielded a greater proportion of ‘first class meat’, that venison had a beneficial fatty acid composition and was dark in colour (Blaxter et al., 1974). More recently, Fisher et al. (1998) and Stevenson-Barry (2000) have reviewed and identified potential important ‘quality’ parameters for venison. From these, the UK deer industry needs to identify a suite of measurements to define ‘quality’, to improve on the current subjective assessments of carcasses in commercial abattoirs and to help guide future production systems. The aim of this study was to identify suitable quality measurements to characterize UK venison.

The most important Entity to be considered in Image Compression methods are Paek to signal noise ratio and Compression ratio. These two parameters are considered to judge the quality of any Image.and they a play vital role in any Image processing applications. Biomedical domain is one of the critical areas where more image datasets are involved for analysis and biomedical image compression is very, much essential. Basically, compression techniques are classified into lossless and lossy. As the name indicates, in the lossless technique the image is compressed without any loss of data. But in the lossy, some information may loss. Here both lossy & lossless techniques for an image compression are used. In this research different compression approaches of these two categories are discussed and brain images for compression techniques are highlighted. Both lossy and lossless techniques are implemented by studying it’s advantages and disadvantages. For this research two important quality parameters i.e. CR & PSNR are calculated. Here existing techniques DCT, DFT, DWT & Fractal are implemented and introduced new techniques i.e Oscillation Concept method, BTC-SPIHT & Hybrid technique using adaptive threshold & Quasi Fractal Algorithm.
