Objective: The present study was designed to evaluate for cytoprotective and DNA protective properties of the compounds isolated from ethanol extract of banana flower (EF) and ethanol extract of banana pseudostem (EE).Methods: The four active compounds viz., umbelliferone (C1) andlupeol (C2) from EF and stigmasterol (C3) and β-sitosterol (C4) from EE were isolated by activity-guided repeated fractionation through silica gel column chromatography. The isolated compounds were evaluated for cytoprotective on erythrocytes and pTZ57R/T plasmid DNA protection against hydroxyl radicals. Results: The study revealed that the compounds (C1-C4) at a concentration of 1 mg/ml exhibited 90% protection on erythrocytes membrane oxidation and also protect the pTZ57R/T plasmid DNA damage induced by hydroxyl radicals. Conclusion: These results endorse an insight for a strong chemical basis to the alleged beneficial role of EF and EE in reducing oxidative stress conditions.

Endothelial dysfunction plays the key role in the development of cardiovascular system disorders. Sulodexide, decreasing oxidative stress and stabilizing endothelial cells, has protective properties on endothelial dysfunction. The article describes the role of sulodexide both in prophylaxis and therapy of venous and arterial diseases, underlining its clinical efficacy as demonstrated in clinical trials. Besides, the article describes its role in the management of some other diseases, like diabetic nephropathy, diabetic foot, tinnitus, or hemorrhoids.

This study aims to find the treatment of diabetes using natural materials by exploring plants in the province of East Nusa Tenggara. his research was conducted out by extracting the Strychnos nitida G.Don stem using a method of maceration by ethanol 70%. Ethanol extract was then fractionated using n-hexane and ethyl acetate. Simplicia from maceration and fractionation results were then tested for antioxidant activity, α-glucosidase inhibition activity and identification of active compounds. The results showed that ethyl acetate fraction had the lowest IC50 value of 86.83 μg / ml. Results of the α-glucosidase activity test showed that ethyl acetate fraction and n-heksan fraction at 900 ppm had the highest percentage of inhibition of 34.23% and 33.89%. Identification using LCMS/MS method showed that ethyl acetate fraction consist of Benzenemethamine, N, N-dioctyl- as an antioxidantcompound and compound 24-methyl-5-cholestone-hexol as an antidiabetic compound. From the results of this study, we concluded that the extract of kayu ular Strychnos nitida G.Don stem has inhibition activity toward α-glucosidase enzyme.
