This study aimed to determine the effect of learning media on student achievement in mathematics. The learning media used include learning using Zoom Meeting, Google Classroom, and face-to-face in class. The research method used was an experiment with a quantitative approach. The samples were 30 Year 9 students divided into three different treatments in learning: learning using Zoom Meeting, learning using Google Classroom, and face-to-face learning in class. The instrument used was a description of the essay questions used to measure student achievement. Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA and Tukey's - HSD test. The results showed a significant or different effect between the use of learning media on student achievement (Fcount = 3.665 > Ftable = 3.35) of α= 5%. Furthermore, further tests were carried out using the Tukey's - HSD test to examine which learning media had a different effect. Further test results showed that learning using Google Classroom with face-to-face learning in the class had a different effect on students' mathematics learning achievement. Meanwhile, student achievement between Zoom Meeting and face-to-face learning and Zoom meeting and Google Classroom was not significantly different. The average student learning achievement in face-to-face learning was greater than those using Google Classroom.

Student interest in learning is a very important factor in determining student success in learning mathematics. Various attempts were made by educators and educational researchers to increase student interest in learning. This research is a classroom action research model by Kemmis and Mc Taggart that aims to describe the application of Guided Discovery learning in optimizing students' interest in learning mathematics. The increase in students' interest in learning mathematics is also supported by the results of student achievement. The research data consisted of students' interest in learning mathematics, learning achievement data, and observations of learning outcomes. Data on learning interest in mathematics is obtained through a questionnaire, data on learning achievement is obtained through tests and data on the results of observations of learning achievement are obtained through observation sheets during learning. In general, the results of the study showed that the average student interest in learning mathematics at 83.93 reached the good category. The completeness of student achievement test results reached 83.87% of students achieving the minimum completeness criteria with an average student score of 85.61. The percentage of teacher and student learning outcomes respectively at 83.80% and 76.91% reached the good category. Therefore it can be concluded that the Guided Discovery learning model can be applied to optimize students' interest in mathematics learning especially by paying attention to the results of reflections from this study.

The importance of maintaining connections and relationships across tertiary education for students is discussed as a way of examining the nature of Pacific education in challenging times, particularly in terms of fractured face-to-face learning. Universities have been thrust into an unpredictable time of remote/distance/online learning in a short period of time. The process has been unsettling and challenging for people across the world. As Pacific students and staff experience the unchartered waters of Covid-19 and global disturbances, they are searching out ways to build purposeful connections, shape-shifting and ways to maintain communities of academic togetherness while harnessing the tools of their knowledge trajectories in research. This article will focus on four key principles: valuing personal and academic connections beyond the textbook; discovering heart-warming methods of connection; and connecting for growth and wellbeing.
