Cola nitida has been used in traditional medicine to treat diverse ailments including diarrhea. This study is carried out to investigate the antidiarrheal activity of the ethanol and chloroform seed extract of Cola nitida in Wistar albino rats. The ethanol and chloroform extracts of Cola nitida were evaluated with different doses (100mg/kg, 300mg/kg and 650mg/kg of animal weight) orally for antidiarrheal activity using castor oil induced-diarrhea, gastrointestinal motility test and castor oil-induced gastroenteropooling in Wistar albino rats. The observed activity was compared to standard antidiarrheal drug Lopermaide hydrochloride (2mg/kg) and to distilled water (10ml/kg) which served as the negative control. Cola nitida ethanol extract at 150, 300 and 650mg/kg showed 55.64%, 59.73%, and 71.34% inhibition in gastrointestinal motility respectively. A significant reduction in diarrheal episodes (p<0.0001) was also observed with 650mg/kg of both extracts showing 100% inhibition. A reduction in the volume of fluid in the small intestine was also seen, this was however not significant. The chloroform extract of Cola nitida on the other hand produced a significant reduction in volume and weight of small intestinal content (p<0.05) with 650mg/kg showing a 92.73% inhibition of intestinal fluid accumulation. The ethanol and chloroform extract of Cola nitida showed anti-diarrheal activity in animal model by decreasing the frequency of defecation and by reducing gastrointestinal motility and intraluminal fluid accumulation in the intestine. In this study, the effects of grape seed extract on insulin, adiponectin and resistin levels in diabetic rats were aimed to investigate. Weight of about 300-350g 7-8 weeks 32 female Wistar Albino rats were used. Weight of about 300-350g 7-8 weeks 32 female Wistar Albino rats randomly divided into four groups of eight each: control group (C), group with diabetes (DM), grape seed extract group (GSE), diabetes mellitus and grape seed extract group (DM+GSE). The diabetic group 45 mg/kg single dose of streptozotocin was administered intraperitoneally, and the grape seed extract groups (DM+GSE and GSE) grape seed extract was given orally every day with an intragastric tube for 20 days (0.6 ml/rat). Blood samples were taken from the hearts of rat’s end of the experiment. The sera obtained were used for insulin, adiponectin and resistin analysis measured via ELISA with commercial kits. The insulin and adiponectin levels of the rats in the diabetes + grape seed extract group were found to be higher than those in the diabetes group. There was no significant change in the resistin level differences between the groups. As a result; It is possible to say that grape seed extract has an increasing effect on insulin level and adiponectin levels of diabetic rats are decreased due to diabetes and it has no significant effect on resistin levels. Detected by the positive effects of grape seed extracts, it may be useful to use for the regulating of the diabetes in human.

  Objective: The current investigation was achieved to treasure out the modification of antidiarrheal activity of ethanoic leaves extract of Psidium guajava Linn. with respect to change of season, namely, autumn and spring.Methods: The castor oil induced diarrhea method is employed for assessment of periodic dissimilarity of antidiarrheal activity of ethanolic extract of P. guajava Linn. (Myrtaceae) leaves. Phytochemical variation is resolute as per typical procedure using various reagents.Results: Phytochemical scrutiny discloses that small fluctuation of phytoconstituent content was observed. The extract was initially assayed for its possessions in castor oil-induced diarrhea at different doses (200, 400, and 600 mg/kg, p.o.). There was statistically noteworthy lessening (p<0.05) in the number of wet feces by 78.33% during spring season and 78.26% during autumn season at 600 mg/kg body weight, and when compared to negative control rats, which might be due to change in climate or due to alteration in plant biosynthesis pathway in different season.Conclusion: The outcomes deliver the suggestion for variation in phytochemical contents as well as amendment in antidiarrheal activity of ethanoic extract of P. guajava leaves during autumn and spring.

Many oxidative stress related disease are due to accumulation of free radicals in the body which causes cell injury. In this study, the enzymatic antioxidants (Superoxide dismutase, Catalase, Glutathione-s-transferase, Glutathione peroxidase, Ascorbate oxidase and Polyphenoloxidase) and non-enzymatic antioxidants (Total reduced glutathione and Vitamin C) activities were determined using Carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) rat liver as experimental model. The ethanol and chloroform extract showed noticeable increases in enzymatic antioxidant and non- enzymatic antioxidant and thus capability to scavenge the free radicals and protect against oxidative stress causing diseases. Thus, the present study indicates that the plant may be clinically valuable agent in the prevention of hepatic failure caused by CCl4 intoxication.

This present research work was designed to investigate the potential chemopreventive effects of Annona Muricata on cadmium-induced hepatotoxicity and oxidative neuronal damage in Wistar albino rats. In this study, twenty-eight (28) Wistar albino rats were randomized into four groups, with seven rats each. Group A served as the control and provided distilled water orally. Groups B, C and D were exposed to 5 mg/kg body weight cadmium chloride orally, while in Groups C and D 200 and 500 mg/kg body weight of ethanolic seed extract of Annona Muricata were administered, respectively, via oral administration, while group B was left untreated for 14 days. Cadmium induced hepatic damage with significant (p < 0.05) elevation of serum total bilirubin, total protein, AST and ALT. Cadmium also caused oxidative neuronal and hepatic damage in rats with significant decrease in ascorbic acid level, GSH, GPx, CAT and SOD activities in the tissues. Lipid peroxidation (MDA level) was significantly increased in rats treated with cadmium alone. Histological findings reveal distortion in brain architecture with intense inflammatory cells especially seen between the grey and white matter. Liver histology reveal chronic inflammation and infiltration of the hepatic cells. However, administration of ethanolic seed extract of Annona Muricata significantly reverse all the toxic effects of cadmium in the brain and liver, suggesting its hepatoprotective effects and therapeutic importance in neurodegenerative disorders.
