The role of teacher professional learning (TPL) in assisting teachers to teach pronunciation in English as a second/foreign language (ESL/EFL) contexts has received little attention. The study reported in this paper extends this line of research by investigating how six EFL teachers at a Vietnamese university transform and integrate the pronunciation pedagogical knowledge they received from a TPL workshop into teaching practice. It then examines the teachers’ perceptions of the impact of the workshop on their knowledge gains and pronunciation teaching skills. Data were collected from seven lesson plans designed by the teachers, video recordings of 24 subsequent classroom observations, and six individual semi-structured interviews. The study adopted a content-based approach to qualitative data analysis. The findings show that the teachers were all able to translate TPL into classroom practice of pronunciation teaching. The findings further show that workshops designed and implemented in accordance with research-based TPL principles can be effective for promoting teachers’ knowledge of pronunciation pedagogy and refining their pronunciation teaching skills. The study has implications for ESL/EFL teachers’ professional development in pronunciation teaching.

Technology can be integrated in teacher education and, hence, be used to empower teachers to extend learning beyond their classrooms. Therefore, the present study was an attempt to investigate English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teachers’ perceptions of action research and explore the impact of their collaborative action research in an online discussion group on their reflective practice. In addition, we were interested to know how online collaborative research action research contributes to their promotion of reflective thinking. The participants of this study were 23 Iranian EFL teachers who were recruited based on convenience sampling. The design of the study was a pre-test post-test design. As such, two questionnaires were given to the participants at the beginning and end of the study. As the next step, the participants took part in online discussion groups for 10 sessions in which they read and watched some essays and videos, wrote about some topics, and shared their ideas and experiences. To consolidate the findings, semi-structured interviews were held with 12 participants. The result of the study indicated that most of the participants of the study had optimistic views regarding action research. In addition, participating in online discussion groups enabled them to think more about their teaching practice and gain higher levels of reflectivity. The results of the qualitative phase indicated that the online courses had effect on the teachers’ practice and reflectivity in different ways. Despite all studies conducted on action research in Iran, contradictory results have been found regarding teachers’ perception of action research. In addition, to the researchers’ knowledge, no study has investigated the use of online collaborative action research on teachers’ reflection. As such, it seemed necessary to conduct a study to explore the role of action research as a framework for improving reflective practice.

Teaching Practicum is a vital component of the initial teacher education (ITE) programme because it enriches future teachers’ knowledge, skills and abilities towards a lifelong career in the teaching profession. Teachers make valuable contributions to the growth of any nation as they help produce future leaders. It is therefore necessary to have a competent teaching workforce to improve pass rates as well as reduce dropout rates among learners. The study took the qualitative deductive premise making use of semi-structured interviews to collect data from more than 30 novice teachers. Key words, which helped in the identification of themes, were distilled from the responses. A core overall finding of the study point to a mix of experiences - benefits and shortcomings - which not only affect the development of prospective teachers but also have profound implications for both policy enhancement and implementation. Regarding policy enhancement and implementation, it is suggested that universities and schools where novice teachers are posted for teaching practice should have good relations for support advancements. In this case, it is advised that the novice teachers should be exposed to critical mentoring opportunities to allow for clearer understanding of the real classroom scope. This study believes that for this to be fruitful, schools should among others be well-equipped. Suggestions for further research are also flagged. .

PALABRAS CLAVE: Educación Lingüística Sustentable; Formación Docente; Práctica Pedagógica Docente; Léxico; Enseñanza   ABSTRACT The authors situate this research within the present educational changes that involve the practice of the teacher-pedagogue, as far as linguistic education is concerned, from the following problems: 1) How do 4th grade teachers of the elementary education incorporate concepts of language teaching as a set of varieties? 2) How would they use a specific lexicon about Amapaense’s discourse, to treat the notion of language as a set of varieties, considering the paradigm of sustainability in language education? In order to solve these problems, the following general objective was developed: -Analyze the teacher’s discourse about the practice of language instruction on linguistic variation at the 4th grade of the elementary education, based on the use of a specific lexicon of local discourse, considering the paradigm of sustainability in language teaching. To achieve this objective, an exploratory-analytical investigation was made, as well as a qualitative methodology of interpretative essence. The object’s specificity requires, in this case, the use of the theoretical-methodological contribution given by the Variance Sociolinguistics (VS), the Sociolinguistic Education (SE), and the sustainability in education, supported by Hargreaves and Fink, in addition to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), among others. For the speeches’ analysis, cutouts from the National Curricula Parameters for the Elementary Education and the Pedagogy Course Project from the Federal University of Amapá (UNIFAP) were used. For information collection, we opted for semi-structured interviews and data triangulation, documentary discourses and the generated material from the field work. Summarized hypotheses: i) pedagogical practices for language learning favor the depth, breadth and duration dimensions of educational sustainability; ii) despite the existence of specific works on the local discourse, within the State’s linguistic education there is not concern about teaching (or reflecting about the mother tongue), from local to universal/national, as suggested by the official documents.   KEYWORDS: Sustainable Linguistic Education; Teacher training; Teacher’s Pedagogical Practice; Lexicon; Teaching. Paradigm shifts in the field of education have been an issue in the Philippines since the COVID-19 pandemic struck. To fill this gap, this study sought to highlight the pedagogical practices and teaching experiences of award-winning educators in a State University. The qualitative data extracted from semi-structured interviews were analyzed following a thematic analysis based on descriptive phenomenology. One finding revealed that the educators’ years in service and educational attainments were helpful in their migration from face-to-face to distance education, even though the number of course preparations was a weight on their shoulders. Secondly, the educators conducted their classes through preparation and implementation via fifteen instructional methods, formative and summative assessments, and feedback. On another note, the educators determined six roadblocks in their teaching practice with explanations on how they overcame them. Amidst all these, they mentioned that it is imperative to uphold empathy in the conduct of their classes.
