The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of rearing system and hen's age on quality and chemical composition of eggs. The tested rearing systems were: cage, floor and organic (30 birds Isa Brown hybrid per group). Fifteen eggs per group were collected for analyses in each of three phases of the productive cycle (32, 48 and 72 weeks hen's age). In these samples were investigated external (egg weight and egg shape index), internal (albumen height, Haugh unit and yolk colour) and chemical composition of eggs (dry matter, minerals, protein and lipids content). The general conclusion is that the egg weight and Roche values were increased, while egg shape index, albumen height and Haugh unit were decreased with hen's age. Organic eggs had higher albumen height and more Haugh units in the 48 and 64 weeks compared to the floor and cage eggs. Yolk colour of the floor and cage hens most dependent on the hen's age, on the other hand - yolk colour of organic hens most dependent on the grass availability at the outlet. Eggs from the organic rearing system had a lower dry matter, proteins and lipid content as compared to the cage system.

The aim of this study was to investigated the effects of the egg shape index on egg quality characteristics in Guinea fowl. For this, the eggs were classified in terms of egg shape index, as ≤ 75, < 76 -77 > and ≥ 78. A total of 100 Guinea fowl eggs were evaluated to determine the egg quality traits ( egg weight, eggshell thickness, eggshell surface area, eggshell weight per unit surface area, eggshell ratio, albumen index, albumen ratio, yolk index, yolk ratio, yolk/albumen ratio, haugh unit and egg volume). In this study, eggshell thickness, eggshell weight per unit surface area, eggshell ratio, albumen index, albumen ratio, yolk index, yolk ratio, yolk/albumen ratio and haugh unit were not significantly affected by egg shape index groups. Whereas egg weight, eggshell surface area and egg volume were significantly affected by egg shape index groups. At the same time, there were found significant relationship between the egg shape index and egg quality traits. Egg shape index was found to be an important factor affecting the egg quality characteristics.

Asam kandis  (Garcinia  cowa  Roxb)  fruit has been reported to contain phytochemicals such as xanthon, hydroxy cytric acid and flavonoids that have various activities such as antimicrobial and antioxidant. This study was aimed  to investigate the effect of asam kandis extract addition in drinking water on the quality of quail eggs. Ninety nine laying quails of 59  days of age were divided into 3 treatments and 3 replications with 11 laying quails in each replication. Completely Randomized Design was used and the treatments were: T1= control  (drinking water without asam  kandis extract), T2= drinking water with asam kandis extract at pH 4, T3= drinking water with asam kandis extract at pH 3. The parameters observed were egg weight, egg shape index, yolk color, yolk percentage, albumen percentage, eggshell percentage,  shell thickness, and haugh unit score. The data obtained were analyzed by Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and significant  differences among treatments means were tested  by Duncans multiple test. The  the addition of asam kandis extract did not affect (P0.05) on egg weight, egg shape index, yolk color, yolk percentage, albumen percentage, eggshell percentage, and haugh unit score. The addition of asam kandis extract in drinking water at pH 3 significantly (P0.05) increased eggshell thickness compare to that of other treatments. The conclusion was the addition of asam kandis extract in drinking water at pH 3 increased eggshell thickness without decreasing egg quality.

In this study, the effects of coat difference and breeding age on the internal and external quality of the eggs were investigated in white laying hens in different cages. The eggs obtained from a total of one hundred fifty eggs White layer pure line hens at 24, 28, 32, 36 and 40 weeks of age that housing in individual cages in the Ankara Poultry Research Institute were used. Shape Index, egg weight (g), albumen height (mm), Roche scale, Haugh unit and shell strength (N) values were examined in 438 eggs obtained from these chickens found in these cages which are three tiers as upper, middle and bottom. In addition, temperature and humidity values in the tiers were recorded at 30-minute intervals during the study and then they were analysed. Statistically significant differences were calculated between temperature and humidity values measured in tiers. Although there was no difference between the tiers in terms of shape index and egg weight, the effect of age was significant. The effect of age and tiers difference on albumen height (mm) was insignificant. The Roche scale and shell strength (N) values were significantly influenced by the tier difference and breeding age. In general, it was concluded that the effect of the tier difference on the Haugh unit was insignificant, but the age was found to have an effect on the Haugh unit.

The egg production of local chiken can be increased by crossing of arab and merawang chicken. This study aimed to observed egg production performances of crossing between merawang x merawangarab (M-MA), merawangarab x merawang (MA-M), merawangarab x merawangarab (MA-MA), arabmerawang x arabmerawang (AM-AM), merawangarab x arab (MA-A), and arab x merawangarab (A-MA). Parameters in this study were egg weight, egg shape index, hen day production and feed conversion. The result showed that the egg weight of MA-M chicken was significantly greater (P<0.05). than M-MA, MA-MA, AM-AM, MA-A, and A-MA chicken. The MA-A egg index was significantly larger (P<0.05) than other crossing. Hen day production of M-MA chicken was significantly greater (P<0.05) and feed convertion was significantly efficient (P<0.05) than other crossing. MA hens had better production than other hens.

Poultry products are the major source of animal protein for most people throughout the world and egg production is the major index of performance of commercial layer business and the avenue in the potential increase ofincome from the enterprise which focuses onegg yield, weight of eggs, and increasing their quality production to enhance economic performance.Microalgae is certainly an interesting solution, it aims to increase its value as an animal feed additive in new commercial applications. The experimental research was used in this study to evaluate the laying performance and egg quality of DeKalb under two feeding regimen such as feeding density andfrequency of microalgae paste Chlorella vulgaris under battery type cage system. The experiment was conducted in acompletely randomized designwith a period of 30 days with 81 Dekalb of the same age. The experimental diet used were commercial feeds,microalgae paste and feeding frequencies of 4 times, 3 times and 2 times.Egg characteristics such as total number of eggs, egg weight (g), egg length (mm), egg width (mm) and shape index (%) were computed based on the data from feeding frequency and density. The costs of feeds and price of grown Dekalb and some material used were used in the computation of return on investment. Based on the result, the effect on the external quality of eggs fed under different feeding densities and frequencies on egg production, egg width, egg weight, egg length and shape index resulted to not significantthe null hypothesis was accepted. The internal quality, the effect of different feeding densities on albumen height, albumen weight and yolk width also statistically not significant. Supplementation of microalgae Chlorella vulgaris on hen diet can be included as a dietary supplement for laying hens up to 80% of the diet to produce quality eggs.

<p>This objective of the research was to know the effect of soaking with hydrogen<br />peroxide on weight reduction, haugh unit and albumen index of duck eggs during storage at room temperature. The research was designed as Completely Randomize Design (CRD) wtih four treatments and six replicates each. The treatments were: soaking with aquades, soaking with 1, 2, and 3% of hydrogen The data were analyzed by analysis of variance and continued with Duncan Multiple Range Test. The results indicated that soaking with hydrogen peroxyde influended the egg weight, Haugh Unit and albumen index at chamber temperature during the storage. The effect of temperature on the performance of Shaver brown hens in the hot humid environment was investigated using seventy-five Shaver brown hens in their 14th week of lay. Each hen was housed in individual battery cage and fed daily with 125 g of commercial layers mash containing 16.5% crude protein, 2650 kcal/kg metabolizable energy, 4% crude fat, 6.5% crude fibre, 3.6% calcium and 0.4% phosphorus for 10 weeks. Water was supplied ad libitum to the birds. Eggs were collected daily and recorded for each hen. Data were collected on average daily feed intake(ADFI),  egg weight, eggshell weight, egg shell thickness, egg shape index, albumin height, yolk height, albumin index, yolk index, haugh unit and hen day egg production. Results showed that ADFI, hen day egg production, egg shape index, albumin height, yolk height, yolk index and Haugh units were significantly (P < 0.05) decreased with increase in ambient temperature. However, high ambient temperature did not have significant (P > 0.05) effect on egg weight, eggshell thickness and albumin index. Based on the results obtained in the study, it was concluded that ambient temperature had an effect on the performance of Shaver brown hens in the humid tropics.

Records obtained from purebred normal feather and naked neck Nigerian indigenous chicken strains were used to assess the influence of strain and production cycle on external and internal egg quality traits. The assessment commenced from first lay to 120 days of lay, classified into four production cycles (PC): PC1 (1-30 days of lays), PC2 (31-60 days of lays), PC3 (61-90 days of lays), and PC4 (91-120 days of lays). Mean egg weight, length and breadth were 4.34% heavier, 2.10% longer and 1.72% wider in the normal feather than in the naked neck (p<0.05). No disparity due to strain effect was found in egg shape index. Eggshells from the two strains had similar weight but varied in thickness with shells from the naked neck being 0.02mm thicker than those from the normal feather (p<0.05). Eggs from the normal feather were 7.13, 5.76, 5.00, 7.10 and 8.11% superior in albumen weight, yolk height, albumen height, yolk index, and albumen index, respectively compared to its naked neck counterpart (p<0.05). Production cycle significantly influenced all external egg quality studied. An increase of 16.21% in egg weight was obtained by PC4. Egg length and breadth increased consistently with each subsequent PC (p<0.05) whereas egg shape index decreased with PC (p<0.05). Higher values were recorded for yolk weight, yolk and albumen length and width in each subsequent production cycle. Haugh unit, yolk and albumen height had best values at PC2. Our findings indicate that strain type and production cycle highly influenced egg quality traits of Nigerian indigenous chickens with the normal feather showing superiority. Furthermore, the best internal quality was obtained at PC2 (31-60 days of lay). Our findings could be useful in choosing selection criterion traits in breeding plans for the development of different layer lines of normal feather and naked neck.

This study aims to determine the characterization and comparative test of exterior and interior qualities including egg weight, eggshell thickness, egg shape, air cavity and interior including high albumin, egg yolk, and haugh egg unit from egg strain Isa Brown and Hyline Brown in different areas of Deli Serdang and Langkat regencies, North Sumatra Province in June-July 2017. The eggs used in this study were 400 eggs divided by 100 Isa Brown and 100 Hyline Brown from Denai Village, Pantai Labu Subdistrict, Regency Deli Serdang, then 100 Isa Brown and 100 Hyline Brown from Sei Limbat Village, Kecamatan Selesai, Langkat District. Each egg is collected directly from the chicken and then measured against the exterior and interior. The results showed that the characterization and comparative test of chicken eggs consumption of strains of Isa Brown and Hyline Brown in different regions had results(thit> ttable) with t test on comparative test I1: H1 and I2: H2 meaning egg of different strain showed different result also on egg weight parameter, shapeegg, shell weight, air cavity, egg white index, haugh unit, egg yolk index and yolk color. The comparative test I1: I2 showed no significant differences (thit <ttabel) on egg weight, shell thickness, shell weight, egg white index, haugh unit and egg yolk index, but showed significantly different (titable) results in egg shape, air cavity and yolk color, meaning there is environmental influence but not significant to other quality of egg with same strain in different region. In the H1: H2 comparative test the results were not significantly different (thit <ttabel) on all parameters except the color of egg yolks, meaning that no environmental or strain effect produced eggs of the same quality in different regions.
