In most respects, there are implicit drawbacks concerning representation and interaction with data in relational-database applications. On the one hand, there is a lack of expressiveness and ease of use in the user interfaces that handle such data. On the other hand, there is an implicit need for interactive end-user visual tools to query data and avoid dependency on programming languages. The main aim of this work is to study the problem of database interaction and usability, comparing existing solutions and providing a new approach that overcomes existing problems. We propose a web-based tool that manipulates Data Warehouse schemas by using a visual language to represent the database structure and providing several visualization techniques that facilitate the interaction and creation of queries involving different levels of complexity. We based our research on an End-User Development approach that has been evaluated to obtain some initial usability indicators.

As end-users work with increasingly complex technologies, it is important that these technologies be used to the fullest extent possible. Time is needed to learn how to use these new technologies and fit them to user tasks, but the fact that a user has gained experience does not mean that expertise has also been gained. Using survey data collected from 187 data warehouse end-users, we found that experience and expertise have a significant positive correlation (r = 0.35, p < 0.001), but expertise has a significantly greater effect on ease-of-use perceptions (t=10.2, p < 0.0001) and the use of a technology (t=21.08, p < 0.0001) than experience. Therefore, it is critical that researchers properly delineate which construct – end-user expertise or experience – is being assessed, when measuring the effect that individual differences have on the perceptions and use of technology.

In the previous chapter, we created an m-business application using ColdFusion. Besides ColdFusion, many other development tools can be used to develop m-business applications. Visual Studio .NET, an integrated development environment by Microsoft, has become an increasingly popular corporate applicationdevelopment tool due to its ease of use and support for a wide range of programming languages. Besides traditional Windows and Web applications, Visual Studio .NET also allows developers to build mobile and wireless applications with relative ease. The focus of this chapter is to discuss the tools and techniques for developing wireless applications using Visual Studio .NET. Wireless applications are developed using the ASP .NET Mobile Web Application template. The template provides developers with WYSIWYG tools for creating user interfaces for various mobile devices. These tools work seamlessly with ASP.NET, which uses a form-based approach to build server-side applications for processing user requests and interacting with databases. In this chapter, we will develop a business-to-consumter wireless application using Visual Studio .NET.

The advantages of information technology in the education has developed a lot, especially in universities. An example of the application of tertiary level information technology is the delivery of information presented through the university's official website. One of the web-based systems owned by the STTI Tanjungpinang is the Sistem Informasi Kerja Praktek dan Skripsi (SKKP). With this technology, the process of submitting titles to the registration of practical work trials and student theses has been switched online. Analysis of the level of satisfaction is important to know the extent of expectations and perceptions of system users in an effort to achieve the perfection of an information system and can meet user expectations. One method in analyzing user satisfaction levels is end user computing satisfaction (EUCS). Dimensions in EUCS consist of content, accuracy, format, ease of use and timeliness. This type of research is descriptive research that is intended to describe the phenomena that exist, which took place at this time or in the past. Data collection methods included observation, interviews and distribution of questionnaires with a sample of 35 respondents who were active SKKP users. The results of the analysis of user satisfaction level SKKP STTI Tanjungpinang using the EUCS method of 78.69% with a gap of 21.31% means users are in the range of satisfied categories. From the five dimensions, the variable content has the smallest gap of 8.69% while the largest gap is in the accuracy variable, which is 32.02%.

This paper describes a dynamic map representation method which provides a flexible, spectacular and cost-effective opportunity for the illustration and description of spatial data due to its parametrability, web-based publication and the free sowftare it uses in multi-user circumstances. The tasks of the database serves and the processing were performed by an ASUS WL-500 G Premium v2 router and a 80 GB hard disk. The database contains the measured data of the nitrogen fertilisation experiment established on the Látókép Experiment Site of the Centre for Agricultural Sciences of the University of Debrecen. The tests showed that the generation time of the processor which was run through the router did not significantly increase. Therefore, the configuration developed by us is suitable for users who do not wish to invest into a large and expensive server, but they still want to view their data quickly and easily, as well as to reach them from anywhere. The available data were not sorted into a database which was performed with Quantum GIS in a way to have an optimum database structure which is adjusted to the expected areas of use and the expected running speeds were also taken into consideration. The processor which processes the database items was written in PHP language. The main role of the processor is that it produces a KML file real time which is suitable for viewing with a given map viewer client (e.g. Google Earth). This application makes it possible to view information related to geographical objects, values stored in the database or those calculated by the processor on a map in 2D or 3D in a versatile way.

AbstractWe develop a methodology for writing interactive and object-based programs (in the sense of Wegner) in dependently typed functional programming languages. The methodology is implemented in the ooAgda library. ooAgda provides a syntax similar to the one used in object-oriented programming languages, thanks to Agda's copattern matching facility. The library allows for the development of graphical user interfaces (GUIs), including the use of action listeners.Our notion of interactive programs is based on the IO monad defined by Hancock and Setzer, which is a coinductive data type. We use a sized coinductive type which allows us to write corecursive programs in a modular way. Objects are server-side interactive programs that respond to method calls by giving answers and changing their state. We introduce two kinds of objects: simple objects and IO objects. Methods in simple objects are pure, while method calls in IO objects allow for interactions before returning their result. Our approach also allows us to extend interfaces and objects by additional methods.We refine our approach to state-dependent interactive programs and objects through which we can avoid exceptions. For example, with a state-dependent stack object, we can statically disable the pop method for empty stacks. As an example, we develop the implementation of recursive functions using a safe stack. Using a coinductive notion of object bisimilarity, we verify basic correctness properties of stack objects and show the equivalence of different stack implementations. Finally, we give a proof of concept that our interaction model allows to write GUI programs in a natural way: we present a simple drawing program, and a program which allows the users to move a small spaceship using a button.

Informasi sangat dibutuhkan dalam pengambilan keputusan. Sistem informasi yang efektif adalah sistem informasi yang harus mampu memberikan kepuasan kepada para penggunanya. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh model End User Computing Satisfaction (EUCS) dengan Instrumen Accuracy, Content, Format, Timeliness dan Ease of Use terhadap kepuasan pengguna sistem UG In Your Hand. Data yang digunakan sebanyak 96 responden yang diperoleh melalui kuesioner online yang dibagikan kepada Mahasiswa. Metode penelitian menggunakan model Regresi Linier Berganda. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Instrumen Ease of Use dan Timeliness mempengaruhi kepuasan pengguna sistem, selain itu Instrumen Content, Accuracy dan Format tidak mempengaruhi kepuasan pengguna sistem UG In Your Hand.   Kata Kunci : Kepuasan Pengguna, UG In Your Hand, Metode EUCS

The use of the internet for teaching and learning has become a global trend among the education practitioners over the recent decades. The integration of technology and media into Malaysian English as a Second Language (ESL) classrooms has altered the methods in English Language Teaching (ELT). In response to the impact of technology in ELT, the needs of a supplementary instructional platform, and the limitations of the learning management system (LMS) in fostering second language (L2) writing skill, a web-based instructional tool was designed and developed based on a theoretical-and-pedagogical framework namely Web-based Cognitive Writing Instruction (WeCWI). To determine the key concepts while identifying the research gap, this study conducted a literature review using online search on specific keywords including “blog”, “Blogger”, “widget”, and “hyperlink” found in the scholarly articles. Based on the review of literature, Blogger was opted due to its on-screen customisable layout editing features that can be embedded with web widgets and hypertext that share the identical features. By looking into the relationship between perceptual learning preferences on perceived information and the visual representations in iconic and symbolic views, the blogs can come with two different user interfaces embedded with web widgets or hypertext. The blog with web widgets appears in a graphical form of iconic view; while hypertext only displays textual form of symbolic view without involving the visual references. With the injection of web widgets and hypertext into the blogs, WeCWI attempts to offer a technological enhanced ELT solution to overcome the poor writing skill with a better engagement while learning online through the learners’ preferred perceptual learning preferences.

Limenoscope is a web based database aiming at promoting the cultural heritage regarding ancient Greek harbours and disseminate the relevant information equally to the general public and to researchers with an interest in that particular cognitive field. The scope of the project is the realization of a database, where one can search for concise information relevant to the historical role, the topography, the morphology, as well as the technical works and installations of ancient harbours in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea. The Database started off with the registration of harbours located in the Aegean Sea and Cyprus, dating from Archaic to Byzantine times. Special emphasis is laid on the bibliographical update of the data forms of the harbour sites, as well as on the related references in ancient literature. The database enables the locating of these sites on a general map, where photographs, plans etc. are also archived. The principles of the database structure are briefly presented along with an example, that of the harbour of Phalasarna, among the harbours registered therein.

: Computational approaches have been proven to be complementary tools of interest in identifying potential candidates for drug repurposing. However, although the methods developed so far offer interesting opportunities and could contribute to solving issues faced by the pharmaceutical sector, they also come with their constraints. Indeed, specific challenges ranging from data access, standardization and integration to the implementation of reliable and coherent validation methods must be addressed to allow systematic use at a larger scale. In this mini-review, we cover computational tools recently developed for addressing some of these challenges. This includes specific databases providing accessibility to a large set of curated data with standardized annotations, web-based tools integrating flexible user interfaces to perform fast computational repurposing experiments and standardized datasets specifically annotated and balanced for validating new computational drug repurposing methods. Interestingly, these new databases combined with the increasing number of information about the outcomes of drug repurposing studies can be used to perform a meta-analysis to identify key properties associated with successful drug repurposing cases. This information could further be used to design estimation methods to compute a priori assessment of the repurposing possibilities.
