Scientific reviews are a publications type, which is very important for the world scientific community. This article considers reviews positions in the world publication flow (within the database «Wed of Science Core Collection» (WoS CC) array) for six natural sciences research areas (physics, chemistry, mathematics, geology, biology, computer science) during the period 2010–2019 for the leading countries of the world and Russia. The article considers additionally this type documents citation specialties depending on the research area.By means of the WoS CC database, bibliometric parameters of publication flows of scientific reviews for the six mentioned research natural sciences areas were determined: the number of records, it’s percentage in the total publication flow, the place of Russian reviews in the world flow, the average citation rate, the proportion of not cited records, the period of active citation. The dynamics of changes for these parameters over time (2010–2019) is considered.The article establishes the following features of scientific reviews, as a specific publication type:the percentage of reviews in both the world and Russian information flow is relatively small, it significantly depends on the research area, but over time it increases for all research areas;the trends of changes for the Russian reviews flow over time and in all research areas, follows world trends;Russian reviews occupy places, in terms of quantity, from 6–9 to a place in the fifth ten in the world array of WoS CC documents (depending on the year and research area), but they show a large spread in average citation terms. Sometimes, Russian reviews average citation is approaching and even exceeds the world average citation for some years and some research areas (and sometimes significantly);the non-cited reviews publications share is significantly lower than even for articles (the most cited type of publications);the reviews active citation period reaches 9–10 years and is significantly longer than (from some publications opinion) for scientific publications in general.

The article is devoted to the study of the state and trends of the publishing activity of Ukrainian scientists and leading countries in the field of life sciences («Life sciences»). The Web of Science Core Collection (WoS CC), Journal Citation Report (JSR) and InCites, as well as classifications of scientific fields designed to structure the publication flow of scientific papers and journals in these information resources, are used for the research base – Web of Science Categories and Research Areas. The article presents the results of the author’s research on the publication indices of scientists of Ukraine and the leading countries of the world for the period 2008-2018 in the field of “Life Sciences” according to the international science-computer database of Web of Science. Conclusions about the growth of indicators of publication activity of scientific works in the field of “Life Sciences” are made. The tendency of a significant increase in their number in Ukraine has been revealed, but domestic studies do not represent all the areas of «Life Sciences» most popular in foreign scientists

<span>Critical thinking skills that enhance the ability of individuals to understand and make sense of the world and events and situations around them are one of the foremost research areas in the educational system of various countries. As a critical thinking individual, decisions made by the teacher in his/her class, the activities he/she has performed and the explicit and implicit messages given by him/her to the class are clearly observed by the students. It is believed that the situation of teachers’ having critical thinking skills and critical thinking personality effects on students' perceptions and achievements about critical thinking. In this context, the aim of the research is to determine the perceptions of the teacher candidates about critical thinking and to observe the changes in these perceptions over time. Interviews were held with 11 prospective teachers for two times for 4 years and their thoughts on critical thinking were examined. According to the findings obtained, the thoughts of the teacher candidates regarding the critical thinking do not change over time but they are not seen enough. Teacher candidates make decisions with emotional references and they are reluctant to inquire and research.</span>

The findings of the study of Russian publications array of 2010-2019 are presented. The dynamics for the ten-year period (2010-2019) is demonstrated. For completeness, two of the most authoritative international polythematic resources, i. e. Web of Science Core Collection (WoS CC) and Scopus, were analyzed in parallel. The dynamics of Russian publications is presented in two versions: all types of publications indexed by the systems, and selected types of publications (research articles, reviews, book chapters, and letters). The positive dynamics of the share of Russian publications within the global array was determined, as well as the increase in Russia’s rating positions in terms of the number of publications in the period 2010-2019, were determined. The publications with Russian participation are represented in all 153 science areas (the WOS CC classifier "Research Areas"), however, the barrier of 1% of the total segment of Russian publications reflected in the WoS CC was cleared just in 42 areas. It is demonstrated that in the recent years, along with the decreasing tendency for the share of publications in physics and chemistry within the Russian publication array, there has been an increase in the rate of publications in the technical, social sciences and the humanities. The Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI), a WoS CC member since 2015, promotes intensively the works in the humanities and social sciences to the world publishing space. Despite the decrease in the rate of physics and chemistry in the Russian publication segment, these areas remain the undisputed leaders in the share of publications in WoS CC.

Network brokerage research has grown rapidly in recent decades, spanning the boundaries of multiple social science disciplines as well as diverse research areas within management. Accordingly, we take stock of the literature on network brokerage and provide guidance on ways to move this burgeoning research area forward. We provide a comprehensive review of this literature, including crucial dimensions of the concept itself in terms of brokerage structure and behavior, a set of key categories of factors surrounding the brokerage concept (antecedents, outcomes, and moderators), and an overview of brokerage dynamics over time. We use these dimensions and categories to depict network brokerage’s theoretical and empirical underpinnings as well as evaluate prior research efforts. In so doing, we offer a means to summarize and synthesize this large, interdisciplinary literature, identify important research gaps, and offer promising directions for future research.

The exponential increase in the number of scientific publications raises the question of whether the sciences are expanding into a fractured structure, making cross-field communication difficult. On the other hand, scientists may be motivated to learn extensively across fields to enhance their innovative capacity, and this may offset the negative effects of fragmentation. Through an investigation of the distances within and clustering of cross-sectional citation networks, this study presents evidence that fields of science become more integrated over time. The average citation distance between papers published in the same year decreased from ∼5.33 to 3.18 steps between 1950 and 2018. This observation is attributed to the growth of cross-field communication throughout the entire period as well as the growing importance of high-impact papers to bridge networks in the same year. Three empirical findings support this conclusion. First, distances decreased between almost all disciplines throughout the time period. Second, inequality in the number of citations received by papers increased, and, as a consequence, the shortest paths in the network depend more on high-impact papers later in the period. Third, the dispersion of connections between fields increased continually. Moreover, these changes did not entail a lower level of clustering of citations. Both within- and cross-field citations show a similar rate of slowly growing clustering values in all years. The latter findings suggest that domain-spanning scholarly communication is partly enabled by new fields that connect disciplines.

The purpose of this study was to assess Canada’s physical activity research productivity by (i) assessing Canada’s contribution to global physical activity research, (ii) determining trends in Canadian physical activity research over time, and (iii) identifying research areas of greater or lesser representation. A Medline search was performed to identify physical activity research published between 1990 and 2005 from Canadian institutions or using Canadian data. Trends over time were plotted and compared with global physical activity research patterns. Original and review articles were sorted based on subject characteristics, nature of physical activity contribution, province and institution of origin, and research area or “pillar”. A total of 5302 Canadian physical activity articles were identified for the period 1990–2005, representing 4.9% of global physical activity research. After manual sorting of abstracts, 3829 relevant articles were included for further analysis. A majority of Canada’s physical activity research has come from Ontario (49%), followed by Quebec (21%), Alberta (10%), and British Columbia (10%). Where physical activity was the primary research focus, the biomedical and clinical pillars each accounted for 39% of Canadian research, with lesser contributions from population health (14%) and health services (2%). Physical activity research productivity in Canada has paralleled global trends over the last 15 years. There is currently less physical activity research being conducted in population health and health services than in the biomedical and clinical areas; however, these areas play an important role in the development of public health policy and programs targeted at reducing the burden of physical inactivity and obesity in Canada.

From 1840 to 1940, there has been a noted increase of school museums dedicated to the Natural Sciences in Quebec. This article analyses the model for museums in different educational establishments for girls in the Montreal area developed by the Congrégation des Soeurs des Saints Noms de Jésus et de Marie. Based on an intuitive approach, lessons using objects, the development of original collections of specimens has been made possible through the voluntary and collective work of the nuns and the students. Ultimately, the collections were displayed in rooms which, over time, have been organized in such a way as to transmit a message in accordance with the spirituality and the world vision of the nuns.

The Mechanical and Technological Innovation Centre (CDMIT) of the National Autonomous University of Mexico has a research area focused on the design of upper limb prosthesis. A large number of prosthesis have been developed and tested. This paper presents the analysis made to different proposals of myoelectric hands based on TRIZ. Two TRIZ tools were applied: The Innovation Situation Questionnaire (ISQ) and the Radar of Evolution. The analysis was made in terms of time, space and the user interface. The ISQ helps to better define the scope of the problem through six basic questions; each question provides a different view of the problem. The radar of evolution helps to make a selection of trends of evolution depending on the product or system, as an analogy of a benchmark. The analysis was made considering the state-of-the-art hand prosthesis: i-limb, be-bionic, Michelangelo and Myohand against the prosthesis prototypes developed by the CDMIT. The result of this tool is a diagram that reveals the level and opportunities of evolution. These opportunities imply a strengthening of research areas not only in the CDMIT but around the world. The conclusion achieved is that different design paradigms linked to bio-mimics criteria are needed to design more innovative user-friendly prosthesis.

Purpose – In many research areas, there are a variety of different types of academic publications, including journals, magazines and conferences, which provide outlets for researchers to present their findings. Generally speaking, although there are differences in the reviewing criteria and publication processes of different publication types, in the same research area, there is certainly overlap in terms of the problems addressed and the audience for different publication types. Therefore, the research impacts of different publication types in the same research area should be moderately or highly correlated. The paper aims to discuss these issues. Design/methodology/approach – To prove this hypothesis, the authors examine the correlation coefficient of citation impacts for different types of publications, in seven research areas of computer science, from 2000 to 2013. In particular, four related citation statistics are examined for each publication type, which are average citations per paper, average citations per year, average annual increase in individual h-index, and h-index. Findings – The analysis results show only a partial correlation in terms of several specific citation measures for different publication types in the same research area. Moreover, the level of correlation of the citation impact between different publication types is different, depending on the research area. Originality/value – The contribution of this paper is to investigate whether the research impact of different types of publications in the same area is correlated. The findings can help guide researchers and academics choose the most appropriate publication outlets.

Along with the popularity of research on Big Data and the increasingly massive use of computer as well as internet-based research, the development of studies with a computational sociology approach has also received more attention. Computational sociology approach such as agent-based modeling or social network analysis has become a new landmark of the interest of social scientist around the world to continue develops suitable interdisciplinary research approaches. This article makes mapping and visualizing the trends and developments of computational sociology studies through a systematic review and bibliometric analysis of scientific publications in the Scopus database. Concepts and clusters of studies on contemporary computational sociology are discussed, including international journals that have a focus and interest in this approach and research area.
