AbstractThis paper discusses the outcomes resulted from efforts in optimizing the implementation of a teaching practice process in a current/post-disaster area. The purpose of this study is to implement the Train-the-Trainer program for local youth as educational agents to pupils in Mardingding Village and in other villages around those affected by the disaster so that the learning spirit of students is maintained. Based on the data analysis using the rapid mapping method with the Rapid Spiral Boehm model, it can be concluded that the implementation and existence of the Train the Trainer program has a positive influence on students' interest in learning activities that are not only focused on activities within the school but also outside the school. The relatively good achievement of learning outcomes after the implementation of the train the trainer program underscores interesting findings in which regions experiencing disasters can still meet learning outcomes with all the inherent limitations of the condition of the affected area. This applied research has limitations, namely focusing on qualitative data analysis so that the interpretation of the findings obtained also has relatively specific implications for the coverage of the Mardingding Village area in the Tiganderket District in Karo District. Keywords: Train the Trainer Program, Teaching Practice Process, Disaster Area, Mardingding Village, Rapid Spiral Boehm.

Referring to the Malaysian National Security Council, disaster is defined as a catastrophic situation that claimed many lives and caused extensive damage to property and potentially endangers the public peace and security. In Malaysia, there were few natural disaster events that can be said to be among the worst ever in terms of the number of deaths and damages. However, these occurrences were not as severe as overseas. At the end of December 2014, there was a catastrophic flood called as the 'Bah Kuning' was hitting the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia. It resulted in almost 85% of the total Kuala Krai area inundated by flood water. One of the elements in post-disaster recovery is rebuilding shelter for victims. Regardless, it is important to research on residents’ satisfaction as it will affect the well-being directly or indirectly. Thus, a study was carried out to evaluate the satisfaction of residents (victims) on the “New Permanent Houses” (Rumah Kekal Baharu, RKB) that they received from the redevelopment project. A questionnaire survey was carried out to collect and understand respondents’ satisfaction on the redevelopment of their housing area, in specific, the quality of their newly reconstructed houses and the supporting facilities or infrastructure in their area. From the analysis, it was found that majority of the respondents were satisfied with their newly redeveloped houses and the infrastructure. The satisfaction level was associated with the locational and land ownership factors.

This research, based on a case study of Foundation A’s Ya’an post-quake relief project, combines static group-to-group comparative experiments and discussions of focus groups to discuss and analyze the effect of post-disaster school social work and its cause in the four dimensions of psychological status, health status, learning status and behavior. Comparatively speaking, the post-disaster school social work has had the most notable positive influence upon the psychological status of the students in the disaster-stricken areas and some influence on their learning and behavior. The effect of the post-disaster school social work is related to the mode, professional level, value orientation and interaction status of the intervention. In the post-disaster relief, it is necessary to carry out school social work, to improve the recruitment system for social work, provide better services, build a multi-party participation mechanism and ensure an unimpeded feedback channel, so as to improve the relief effect.

In language teaching process, instruction becomes one of important things to provide in order to encourage students’ language learning. Since the late 1960s, one of the language instructions that has been available is explicit language instruction which is believed as one of useful tools for the teaching practice. Given that the present study tried to investigate how English lecturers provide explicit language instruction in EFL classrooms to assist their students’ language learning. To gain the data, a case study employing semi-structured interviews and classroom observations were conducted. Two English lecturers were purposively selected to be the participants of the study for their familiarity of the instruction. Based on the analysis, the study revealed some of the elements of explicit language instruction provided such as clearly stating the lesson’s objectives and teachers’ expectations, using language clearly and concisely, providing step-by-step demonstrations and adequate examples, guiding students through practices on language functions, monitoring student performance and responses by giving feedbacks, and encouraging students to organize knowledge.  It can be concluded that explicit language instruction actually can be considered for classroom improvement. Future studies are suggested to investigate students’ voices of the implementation of the instruction that may actually help their lecturers better their teaching practices and favour their students’ learning outcomes.

Due to frequent natural disaster around the world, the post-disaster recovery plan has become one of the most important issues that many countries face. In 2009, the devastation of a typhoon at southern Taiwan had washed away one of the local fishing villages. How to face and manage the high-risk-prone disaster area and its approach to restoration should be re-evaluated. This paper uses Pingtungs Raise Water, Grow Electricity plan as a case study to demonstrate the success of participant collaboration. With a donation of 100 million U.S dollars, 44 hectares of farm land, and integration of each other, sustainability of land use emerged. It does not only echo the government responsibility but also maintain the livelihood of the farmers. Although this plan aligns with concepts of sustainable development, it still faced challenges from formal rules, informal constraints and the enforcement characteristics of both. The 'Raise Water, Grow Electricity' plan shows a distinct pattern of institutional change. Through cooperation of informal constrains including local participation and translation of land and formal rules, local alliances can benefit and then call the new actors to join for more policy resources.
