This study aims to determine the driving factors of class participation in the achievement of Accounting Education students in the 2015 and 2017 Faculty of Economics, the State University of Medan in Accounting learning. This study uses the Ex-post Facto method, with a total population of 203 people and a sample of 135 students. In this study, data collection techniques are using a questionnaire. Data analysis techniques used were descriptive statistics, the classic assumption test, and multiple regression. The results of hypotheses tests indicate that class participation, lecturer character, learning environment, and peer interaction simultaneously do not affect academic achievement. The R Square value of 0.093, which indicates that academic achievement is influenced by the variable class participation and parenting parents by 9.3%, the remaining 90.7% is influenced by other variables not examined in this study. Keywords: Class Participation; Lecturer Character; Learning Environment; Peer; Academic Achievement.

This study aims to determine the effect of class participation and parenting style on the academic achievement of accounting and accounting education students of the Faculty of Economics, the State University of Medan. One hundred forty-two respondents were generated from a total population of 229 students. Data analysis techniques include descriptive statistics followed by the multiple regression analysis. The results showed that: 1) The significant value of the class participation variable is 0.203 > 0.05; thus, the class participation hypothesis rejected, meaning that there was no influence between class participation on academic achievement. 2) The significant value of the parenting variable is 0.014 < 0.05, confirming the hypothesis that there is an influence between parenting parents on academic achievement. 3) A significant value of 0.032 <0.05, then according to the basis of decision making in the F test, it can be concluded that the hypothesis is accepted, indicating class participation and parenting style influence on accounting students' academic achievement. 4) From the results of the two independent variables, which are the dominant variables affecting academic achievement is the class participation variable evidenced by the highest regression coefficient, which is 0.203 compared to the regression coefficient of the other variables. Keywords: Parent Participation; Parenting Parents; Academic Achievement.

The study investigated career choice determinants and academic achievement of first year science education students of the  University of Uyo. It was an ex-post facto research design with three research questions and three hypotheses guiding the study. The population of the study was 634 undergraduate science education students in the 2016/2017 academic session. One hundred and twenty-four (124)first year students randomly selected across the five units of the department (integrated science, physics chemistry, biology and mathematics) formed the sample size for the study. Questionnaire was the instrument for data collection. The data collected were analysed using mean and standard deviation, ANOVA and MANOVA. Instrument reliability using Cronbach alpha reliability coefficient was 0.82.  The findings of the study showed that students find themselves tied down to rigid programme schedules that do not give them room to fully concentrate on their areas of specialization. This adds to schooling burden and dampens the excitement they originally came into the programme with. The study also found that   due to lack of information on various career choices students lose interest easily even though their choices were on the career choices they made.  Parental desire causes students to come out with poor results at the end of semester and graduation. It was also found that gender is not a significant factor on the problems encountered. The result further showed that different units of the department have significant influence on the problems encountered. It was recommended amongst others, that proper orientation/counseling be given to students to enable them cope with workload challenges at the commencement of the programme in the  different units of the department.

This research aims to describe the external factors of the learning difficulties of building technical education students on the course of mechanical mechanics 1 at the State University of Jakarta. This research uses the ex-post facto method with a quantitative approach. This research is done by collecting data from questionnaires, interviews, and learning outcomes. Based on the results of the study, the causative factors of students' learning difficulties in the course of Mechanical Mechanics 1 in the Building Engineering Education study program are factors of means and infrastructure, factors of learning methods and factors of campus interaction. On the factors of facilities and infrastructure, 39.8% of respondents agreed that the absence of Mechanical Mechanics module 1 made them difficult to learn, 34.9% of respondents agreed that the room was too full by students making it unable to focus on learning Mechanical Mechanics 1, and 33.7% of respondents strongly agreed that they were uncomfortable studying Mechanical Mechanics 1 in the classroom when there was noise of motors, cars or other transportation from the outdoors. On the learning method factor, 55.4% of respondents disagreed they had studied Mechanical Mechanics 1 material at night for tomorrow's material. On the campus interaction factor, 56.6% of respondents disagreed they were close to the lecturer.

The purpose of this study was to determine the validity of KCPE as a predictor of KCSE scores among public secondary school students in Kisii central Sub-county, Kenya. This study was guided by a conceptual framework where KCPE was the independent variable and KCSE the dependent variable. It adopted Correlational and Ex-post-facto research designs. The study population was 3,897 KCSE candidates from 55 public secondary schools. Stratified random sampling based on school type and size was used to select 16 public secondary schools for the study. Saturated sampling was employed to include all KCSE candidates whose KCPE marks were available in each sampled school, yielding a sample of 1,391 students.  Data used included 2006 KCPE scores and 2010 KCSE scores of the same students under study. Data was collected using a researcher made pro forma. It was analyzed quantitatively using correlations and regression analyses. Results showed a strong positive Pearson’s correlation coefficient (r=0.693; n=1391; p < 0.05) between KCPE and KCSE scores. It recommended that; KCPE should continue to be used as selection tool for secondary school admission and school evaluation using KCSE examination scores should be based on students’ past KCPE scores.

This study investigated socio-economic determinants of students’ academic achievement in building technology in North-central Nigeria. It was a quest to probe into the incessant cases of students’ poor achievement in building technology to identify students’ determining factors. Survey research design was adopted in carrying out the study. Data were collected from 113 students on their socioeconomic attributes and their academic record. Data were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean and multiple regression analysis. The results of the study showed that building technology education in Nigeria is male dominated and majority of colleges of education students in North-central Nigeria are under 20 years. Socio-economic determinants of students’ academic achievement in building technology include gender, age, study hours, family size, stipends per month, group reading, students’ health status, credit pass in SSCE and truancy. The challenges facing building technology students in the study area include epileptic power supply, inadequate ICTs, lack of functional building technology workshop among others.

This ex-post-facto designed study was geared towards assessing the readiness of would-be teachers in universities inCross River State for the teaching profession, and how reforms can be managed to strengthen this. Three hypotheseswere isolated to give direction to this investigation. 200 students from the two universities in the state constituted thesample drawn from a population of 1684 graduating education students. Data were generated using “Students’Teaching Readiness Questionnaire (S.T.R.Q.)”. Population t-test and Independent t-test statistical techniques wereused to analyze data collected. Results disclosed that teaching readiness of university education students issignificantly low in terms of possession of communication skills, interpersonal skills, ICT skills and entrepreneurialskills; gender influences teaching readiness of university education students in one hand and in the other, it does not;teaching readiness of university education students does not significantly differ on the basis of institution ofaffiliation. On the strength of these findings, implications for managing teacher education reforms were articulated.
