DEVELOPING REALIA IN TEACHING WRITING DESCRIPTIVE TEXT IN JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL

This research is aimed to develop a good realia as a media, easy to be learnt, and can be used for teaching writing descriptive text. This study is developmental research uses Sugiyono’s model. The evaluator of the media are three experts. This instruments employed in this study is a questionnaire, interview, and Test (Pre-test and Post-test). The finding of the study is the quality of the developed realia media viewed from the experts is very good (87,2 %). The final product of this realia media is continued with effectiveness exam. The study takes place in MTs. Swasta Al-Jam’iyatul Wasliyah Tembung to the studens of VIII class, academic year 2016-2017. The samples are 40 students which is given a miniature of SIB monument and National monument as realia. Pre-test and Post-test were administrated to measure students’ ability in writing descriptive text before and after using realia. The scoring system was based on five aspects; they are content, organization, vocabulary, language use, mechanics. The result shows that there is an increase of students’ ability in writing descriptive text by using realia as a media. Therefore, the writer suggest to English teacher to develop realia as one of the alternative ways to increase the students’ descriptive text writing ability.

<p>Writing ability is a skill that must be mastered by students. One of the media can be applied in teaching writing is TV Newscast. The objective of this research is to find out whether the writing ability of the eleventh-grade students of SMKN 1 Kudus in 2016/2017 academic year after being taught by using TV newscast is better than before. This study is experimental research; in this research, the writer used one group pre-test post-test design. There are two variables; they are TV newscast (independent variable) and the students' writing ability (dependent variable). The population of the research is the eleventh-grade students of SMKN 1 Kudus in 2016/2017 academic year. The writer used random cluster sampling as the technique to take the sample. Then XI AK 1 (accountancy class) consists of 38 students was taken. The research used achievement test as instrument for measuring the students' writing ability before and after being taught by using TV newscast and then the data were analyzed using the statistical formula. Based on the result of this research, the t<sub>0 </sub>(obtained) was higher than t-critical (20.09&gt;1.56). It showed that t<sub>0 </sub>(obtained) on the critical area and the null hypothesis (H<sub>0</sub>) is rejected. Then the conclusion is that the writing ability of the eleventh-grade students of State Vocational School 1 Kudus in 2016/2017 academic year after being taught by using TV newscast is significant.</p>

<span lang="EN-US">Writing implicates conveying or communicating ideas or thoughts obliges the media either in conventional (paper and pen) or digital material (computer). This research applied a pre-experimental approach with one group pretest and post-test design. The independent variable is movie trailers as teaching media. The dependent variable is students' writing skills consist of content, organization, vocabulary, language use, and mechanics. This research indicated a significant difference in writing skills before and after the treatment using movie trailers with narrative text. There were 30 writing class students participated in this research; hence, they are homogeneous. Students seemed to be more encouraged to learn more about writing skills with enjoyable and relaxing strategies. This research signposted significant impact on the movie trailer's usage of writing skills’ improvement. Movie trailers could be used as one of the learning media to foster students' resolution in telling stories in writing based on the imagination that comes after watching. Therefore, this research recommends using a movie trailer as one strategy to improve the students' writing ability.</span>

The objectives of this research are to find out whether there is any significant of students in teaching  writing recount text between before and after by using My Simple Show and how the student’s perception towards the use of this application in teaching writing recount text. The method used is quantitative by using a pre-experimental design and questionnaire, To get data, the researcher gave a Pre-test, and Post-test to students. Based on the result of the research, there are some research that can be represented. First, there is significance of My Simple Show to write recount text. Second, the students perception of My Simple Show to increase recount text. Based on the result of this research, the researcher hope can help the students to increase writing ability in recount text by using this application, and give more motivation to be creative.

This research is aimed at developing good picture as a media, interest and easy to be learnt, and can be used for teaching writing descriptive text. This study is developmental research uses Borg and Gall model. The subject of this research is the class VIII 4 of SMP Negeri 5 Tanjungbalai which consists of 35 students. The evaluators of the media are two experts. This instruments employed in this study are observation, questionnaires and test. The finding of the study is the quality of the developed picture media viewed from the experts is excellent (87,5%). The final product of this picture media is continued with effectiveness exam. The samples are 35 students which is given a sequence pictures of pet. Test were administrated to measure students’ ability in writing descriptive text by using picture and also for testing the product. The scoring system was based on five aspects; they are content, organization, vocabulary, language use, mechanics. The result shows that there is an increase of students’ ability in writing descriptive text by using picture as a medium. Therefore, the writer suggest to English teacher to develop picture as one of the alternative ways to increase the students’ descriptive text writing ability.

The aims of this study are:1) To find out the students’ ability in writing recount text who were taught using scrapbook. 2) to find out the students’ ability in writing recount text who were taught without using scrapbook. 3) to know whether there is any significant difference of the students’ ability who were taught using Scrapbook and the students who were taught without using Scrapbook. This study used true experimental design and its kind is pre-test post-test control and experimental group design. The population in this research is the eighth grade students of SMP N 2 Gubug in the 2015/2016 academic year. The writer took 2 classes, each class consist of 21 students, VIII A as Control class and VIII B as Experimental class. Pre-test and post-test were used as instruments. There were some categories in assessing writing, those are: content, organization, vocabulary, syntax and mechanic. Based on the research findings, the writer concluded that the mean of students’ score in writing recount text taught without using Scrapbook is 65,6 and it was categorized as “adequate” in achievement level. So it was concluded that writing ability of the students who were taught without Scrapbook is fair. The mean of students’ score in writing recount text taught using Scrapbook is 74,57 and it was categorized as “good” in achievement level. So it was concluded that the use of Scrapbook can improve the students’ ability in writing recount text. There was significant improvement of students’ ability in writing recount text after being taught by using Scrapbook. It can be known from ttest result is 3,58 and ttable for df 40 and significance 5% is 2,021. From data above, because t-test is higher than t-table, so the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected, and Ha was accepted. So there is significant difference between the students’ ability in writing recount text taught using scrapbook and those were taught without using Scrapbook. Based on the result above, it can be concluded that the use of Scrapbook is effective in improving students’ ability in writing recount text. Students felt happy and enthusiast in learning recount text. Scrapbook helped the students to learn the material easily. Scrapbook can be one of visual media that is interesting especially for teaching writing recount text.

 The purpose of this research is to find out whether there is an influence of media play on the cognitive development of children aged 5-6 years at Widya Kumara Santhi Kindergarten, Banjar District, Buleleng Regency 2016/2017 Academic Year. Playdough is one activity that is beneficial for the development of a child's brain. Cognitive development is a change in thinking or intellectual abilities. According to Minister of Education Regulation no. 58 of 2009 revealed that one aspect of cognitive development that needs to be developed in children aged 5-6 years is the concept of shape, color, size, and pattern. Shapes taught to young children are geometric shapes such as circles, triangles, squares and rectangles. This type of research is using a quantitative approach, the target of this study is 30 children aged 5-6 years at TK Widya Kumara Santhi, Banjar District, Buleleng Regency. From the results of quantitative research using Pre Experiments with the type of one group pre-test and post-test desaign. Based on the results of the t test, the significance value (sig) was 0,000. The significance value of the t test is smaller than the maximum limit set at 0.05 (sig ≥ 0.05) so that it can be concluded if there are significant differences in the cognitive development of children before and after using media play. From the results of the paired sample t test, it can be concluded that media play has an effect on cognitive development (Ha accepted). With the acceptance of the working hypothesis it can be concluded that the media playdough has a quite high influence on the Cognitive Development of Children Aged 5-6 Years at Widya Kumara Santhi Kindergarten, Banjar District, Buleleng Regency.

The objective of this study is to find the use of mind mapping on improving students’ writing ability, especially for biographical recount text at the tenthgrade students of SMAN 7 Kota Tangerang in the academic year of 2018/2019.The sample of this study were 35 students. This study used quantitative method with pre – experimental design by using one group pre –test and post – test. The result of the research shows that there is a significant difference in student’s writing ability between tenth grade students of SMAN 7 Kota Tangerang before and after taught using the mind mapping technique. It can be seen in the result of the study, the average pre – test score of experiment class students is 68.26 and the average post – test score of experiment class students is 85.40. It means that there is a significant difference in students’ writing ability between tenth grade students of SMAN 7 Kota Tangerang before and after taught using the mind mapping technique. The research hypothesis is proven that using mind mapping technique in teaching writing especially in recount text makes the students’ writing score higher.

This study aims to know the effect of Project Based Learning to the students’ writing ability in descriptive text in the eighth grade students of SMPN 8 Kediri in which the experimental research design was applied . The sample consisted of 16 males and 14 females students. The essay test of writing descriptive text was used to collect the data about the students’ writing ability before and after the treatments about teaching writing using project based learning.Then the data were analyzed using statistical formula of t-test computation. The result shown that the students’total score of post-test is 2460, and then total score of p re-test is 2217. It means that students’ score increased. Based on the data report of the table of t-test based on signification 5%, the result of this research showed that T-score (14, 54) ˃ T-table 5% (1, 699).  It means that was significant so the Null Hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. Besides, in analyze t-test, t-score is higher than t-table. The score of t-test is 14, 54 and the t-table is 1, 699 in the level of significant 5% (0, 05). Based on the t-test result which obtain that Project Based Learning has significant effect t-score 14.54 and the table is 1.699 in the level of significant 5%. From the data analysis, it can be seen that Project Based Learning is effective to the students’ writing descriptive text ability.

<p>This study deals with the effect of hamburger strategy on writing descriptive text. Hamburger strategy is a writing organizer strategy that visually outlines the key components of a paragraph. When writing by using hamburger strategy, the students will learn to remember how to build the paragraph and the importance of each component. It was conducted by using experimental quantitative research. The population of this study is the first semester  students of English Department Nommensen Medan. The writer takes 50 students as the sample and they are devided into two groups by using random sampling. The first group was  group A as Experimental class which is taught by implementing hamburger strategy while the second group is Group B as control class which is taught by using conventional method. Oral test is used  as the instrument of collecting the data. This test consists of two types, namely pre-test and post-test. The data were analyzed by using t-test formula. The calculation shows t-observed that is 3. 58, which  is higher than t-table that is 1.676 at the level significance  (p: 0.05) with the degree of freedom (df) 48. It means that Ha is accepted while Ho is rejected, therefore it is concluded that hamburger  strategy  significantly affects on writing descriptive text of the first semester students of English Department in Nommensen University Medan academic year 2016/2017. It is suggested for the students of English Department as source of valuable knowledge and information when conducting a research related to the study. The teaching writing is still in need of interesting teaching media to support its pedagogy as teaching writing is associated with difficult subject to be taught. Prior researches have been conducted on teaching writing area and the result suggested conducting more study on teaching writing effectively. This study attempts to fulfill the gap and takes teaching media as the focus of the research. This article investigated the employment of animated films as a teaching medium in the teaching of narrative writing tests, as well as if they are still effective in supporting the learning process. The sample of the research was taken from the students of a Junior high school in Parepare, Indonesia which was chosen purposively. Online Google Forms was employed as research tools for the study, and the questionnaire and test writing were used to collect data. Quantitative analysis was used in analyzing the data gathered. Regarding the research result, the data revealed that there is difference result between before and after the research. Students respond positively to an animation video utilized in the study as an alternate media in teaching narrative text of writing. They enjoyed the learning process of writing narrative text via animation film as the media as well as improved their positive energy in writing. It can be suggested for the next researcher to study more in another issue of animation film for teaching.
